You're probably right about him. The story that's been floated around is that his old job at corporate had been eliminated and he's taking over as interim store manager with our old store manager on leave. But nobody expects her to come back and they think he's going to keep it since his old job is gone.
But doing this probably IS his job now.
Oh well. Not like telling anybody that would have helped anybody out anyhow. Chances are that the old manger is never going to come back and would be pushed out quickly if she tried. If the company has another replacement picked out for the job they're going to be a lot more like the new guy than the old manager.

FWIW I have FINALLY finished my 'utility closet'. I have exactly 2 closets in the house - the bedroom closet and the utility closet, so storage space is currently very limited. My utility closet (with a tall set of shelves in the back; hooks on the inside front wall; and a tall stepladder hanging on the inside of the door) is full from top to bottom. But it has everything from the vacuum cleaner to paper lunch bags to shampoo, so it's not as if I have too much stuff. I think it's reasonably well organized and handy, with categories collected in crates on the shelves. We'll see how it works.
I rewarded myself with something interesting. The people who make the formed concrete products I wanted won't sell them to me (they sell to large-scale construction projects like freeway retaining walls). Well, they will sell some mismatched things to me but won't deliver such small quantities. Each pallet is over 3,500 pounds, the place is a few hundred miles away, and the YRC shipping company lift-gate limit is 2000 pounds.
So I'm looking into pouring them myself. I looked into the recipe for 5000+psi concrete, reusable, adjustable steel concrete forms, and how to dye concrete in case I want to make it look more like natural stone. Of course I don't remember almost all of it! But the takeaway lesson is that these are perfectly routine things to do that shouldn't present impenetrable roadblocks. It basically comes down to some combination of time, effort, and money. That makes looking into it further promising.

My project is just stalled a little bit. My trunk which I was going to put in a different spot originally now has to go into that spot. So, I will move it then I can go back to my closet. There is at least one bin's worth of photographs there and they have to go back into my trunk.

The leg is okay but the hand is still bothering me, which is why I didn't do anything heavy today. Can't say I won't think about it tomorrow but I'll see how the hand feels. Fingers are pinging a bit right now.
