So, nice to have somewhere to toss my keys when I come in.
I just did that after taking down some recycling.
Also nice to have something proper to sit on when I watch M*A*S*H in about 15minutes.

Well... I had one hell of a heartwarming sendoff today.
As I was wrapping up the sweeping for the night, my manager was headed my way and said "I don't care if you don't like hugs, you're getting one!". As I hugged her back I told her that she's going to make one hell of a manger and she's already better than half of them we've got right now.
The team lead came down a minute or two later and looked like she was about to tear up a bit and said "I'm not good at this." I opened my arms and said "come here!" we hugged and I told her not to let them give her any shit because she's way too good for that.
A lot of "Everything's gonna be alright"'s and "I'll figure out what I'm going to do when I get there"'s were said while saying goodbye to my work family. Some numbers were exchanged. Who knows? Maybe I'll actually keep in touch with them this time. That would be a first for me.
I think I'm going to take a nice break for a few days while it's raining. Decompress. Get a to-do list together. Then get to kicking some ass and starting the next chapter of my life off the right way.
I've doubled my bank account and got the body of a 20 year old back again in the last year and a half there. I'm sober for over 2 1/2 years now.
Whoever gets my services next is going to be lucky to have me.

That was good Jack. I hope you do keep in touch with them. I think it would be good for you and it seems like you made some friends.

Yesterday, well after I left for the day, the new Head Jagoff In Charge had a meeting with all the Team Leads and told her to stick around. All of the Team Leads are getting a $3/hr bump in pay. Great, right? No.
The plan going forward for the company is to eliminate ALL MANAGEMENT except for the Store Managers. They'll pay the Team Leads a few extra bucks per hour to take on all of the responsibilities that the MUCH HIGHER PAID Managers used to have to do.
FUCKERS.
Head Jagoff In Charge told my manager after the meeting, rather unceremoniously and with the soullessness of the robot I already knew he was, that she "had better polish up her resume because the last one in is the first one out".
So please. Let me hear again from somebody how great the freakin' economy is doing right now.
I had to leave earlier than I normally would today and I will be doing the same tomorrow, my last day there. It's best for both of us if I never see HJIC again.
I could tell she was almost crying when she told me this. If it were five years ago I would have given her a hug, but yanno, it's gotten to the point that you can't even give a fucking hug to somebody to console them without worrying about somebody #MeToo'ing you in 2019.
When is that apocalypse coming again? I'm going to have to double my hamburger intake so more cows fart.

I feel sorry for your manager. It's hard to find a job when everyone else from the same store is looking for the same kind of job. I hope she lands on her feet. At lest she'll get unemployment.
I hope you keep in touch too, SIX. People spend such a large part of their lives at work and oftentimes it's the only place where you have time to make friends.

Maybe I'll say who it was after the severance is out and the unemployment clears. I don't remember what exactly I signed when I started working there. Family is making progress in fits and starts. We pounded nails out of an old bookshelf that we're going to keep, took the old furniture out of the back bedroom where we had been painting and put it into the den that we had just cleared. Dear daughter and I need to clean the paint spots off the floor, and the room will be ready for our furniture.
I need to measure the old metal bedframe and see if it fits dear daughter's mattress. If it does, and the box springs also fit, then her bed will be ready to set up once we paint her room. (She envisions a very complicated five-color scheme, in stripes no less. It'll be an interesting paint job!)
But in the middle of fixing dinner the kitchen sink stopped up completely. It wasn't in the P-trap or anywhere near the cleanout, but far down the pipe where somebody had kludged a part of the waste line that doubled back on itself, making snaking it out totally impossible. So the sink is still mostly stopped up, and we're looking at replacing about 12' of waste line to join up smoothly with the main waste line. We've known for years that there was something hinky about that connection, I've never used the disposal to actually dispose of anything, just to chop up the bits and pieces from dishwashing (and I scrape my dishes thoroughly before washing.) because it's a complete pain in the ass to snake. Apparently the pipe is corroded because it doesn't drain completely - not so much of an issue because waste lines aren't pressurized - but the corrosion has formed bosses and lumps that trap waste and grow muck, which is why it stopped up.

I keep waiting for a main waste-line problem to wreak havoc myself. I don't entirely know WHY I think there's a problem just waiting to pounce - besides that it's probably over 60 years old, and was likely clay pipe, in earthquake country - but I do.
I guess you can cut-in stripes with mostly straight lines with one color, and when the paint dries use painter's tape to overpaint a really straight line between the two ...
