Fox News has always used certain prominent Democrats as boogeymen -- someone for hosts and guests to demonize, knock down, and refer to whenever grievances need to be aired against the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Nancy Pelosi all have been put in this rhetorical role, but since June 2018, Fox personalities have set their sights on a new target: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
No one sets up false narratives quite like Faux can.
Here is a (noncomprehensive) glimpse into what just six weeks of Fox News and Fox Business’ Ocasio-Cortez coverage looks like:
Week 1: Fox freaked out over Ocasio-Cortez wanting to ban children; pushed a partisan, since-debunked claim about the cost of the Green New Deal, and helped make her one of the stars of CPAC.
Week 2: Fox accused Ocasio-Cortez of being a hypocrite for using cars, relentlessly covered alleged ethics violations filed by conservative activist groups against her staff, and used her support of Rep. Ilhan Omar to accuse Democrats of having an anti-Semitism problem.
Week 3: Fox melted down when Ocasio-Cortez said Ronald Reagan used racism to stoke divisions, attempted to pit her against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to claim major divisions in the Democratic Party, and attacked her education and intelligence.
Week 4: Fox hyped a Gallup poll about Ocasio-Cortez's national approval ratings, covered more alleged ethics violations, and attacked Time magazine for a cover featuring her.
Week 5: Fox continued to push the bogus Green New Deal cost claim and criticized her questioning during House committee hearings.
Week 6: Fox attacked Ocasio-Cortez's (accurate) tweets about the 22nd Amendment and croissants, obsessed over another Instagram Live video while mocking her unfurnished apartment, and accused her of adopting a fake accent.

Foley was a congressman from Florida from 1995 until his resignation in 2006, when it was revealed that he sent sexually explicit messages to teenage boys. The campaign’s treasurer is Foley’s sister, Donna Foley Winterson.
The FEC referred to several expenditures by Foley’s campaign that have occurred long-since his resignation from Congress. These include over $20,000 worth of sponsorships and membership dues paid to various Florida civic organizations.
Among the so-called “zombie campaigns” being probed by the FEC is the 2012 presidential campaign of Mitt Romney, who is now a U.S. senator. Romney’s presidential campaign spent money on, among other things, compliance and legal consulting and document storage. These expenses flagged by the FEC set the campaign back around $40,000.
