How much is a ticket in China?

Hard to say, but with a little math we might be able to at least have a ballpark figure.

CM's current Domestic gross: $321,498,835
CM's current China gross: $140,950,000

Theatrical Engagements in the US: 12,898
Theatrical Engagements in China: 270,593

(Theatrical Engagement is one full week it showed in a single theater)

Average price of a movie ticket in the US first quarter of 2019: $9.11

$321,498,835 (Domestic Gross) / $9.11 (Ticket Price) = 35,290,761 tickets

35,290,761 (Tickets) / 12,898 (Theatrical Engagements) = 2,736 tickets per theater per week

2,736 x 270,593 (Chinese Theatrical Engagements) = 740,342,448 total tickets sold in China.

$140,950,000 (China's Current Box Office) / 740,342,448 = .19 cents per ticket.

I'm not sure how accurate, if at all, that math is. It's based off of a lot of assumptions.

The numbers of how many US tickets sold would suggest around 12% of the US population has seen CM, assuming there were not any repeat viewings.

The numbers of how many China tickets sold would suggest around 60% of the Chinese population has seen CM, assuming there were not any repeat viewings.

Theaters in China could be much smaller on average than in the US.

I seriously doubt that they still make only .25 cents a day working in those sweat shops. But who knows, maybe .20 cents is the going rate to see a movie in China these days.

If only 12% of Chinese actually have seen the movie and are on par with the US population, that would still mean that it costs around a buck to see a movie in China today.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Based on my experience, it varies between big, chain cinemas and smaller cinemas.

Most film tickets, which I saw at a Jackie Chan Cinema near my apartment in Beijing, are priced around 90 RMB, which is around 14 USD. However, discounted tickets can also be bought online via Apps like Dianping and Meituan. A ticket for Paddington 2 at a youth theatre may priced 28 RMB, or around 4.5 USD.

These prices are normal tickets, not VIP tickets. Overall, we Chinese think film tickets are generally affordable.

(I’m not using calculator or currency converter to calculate the USD values so they may not be accurate)

If we go by this, the average Theater in China is MUCH smaller than US theaters, and far, far less Chinese people have seen the movie than US citizens.

This is probably more accurate:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/943300/china-average-ticket-price-
by-size-of-cinemas
/

Single hall cinema average price: 30 Yuan
16 hall or more Mega cinema price: 40 Yuan

1 Yuan = .15 cents

$4.5 to $6 for a movie ticket in China.

Let's call it $5.25...

Total Chinese box office: $140,950,000 / $5.25 = 26,847,619 tickets sold

Compared to 35,290,761 tickets sold in America

In 1/40th the amount of theaters.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

So, a couple of things I learned today. ( As I am led to believe )

1. The scenes Brie Larson shot for End Game, as Captain Marvel, were done BEFORE her full on feature - Captain Marvel.

2. Captain Marvel, as she appears in End Game, is a fully formed and ( allegedly ) better character than what audiences saw in the origins movie.

I've only seen a few clips and knowing the Russo bros, they could be reshoots, wonky , deceptively done edits , but Brie Larson actually looks - please be seated - interesting ! .

For all the talk of her being stoic and unsympathetic in CM, early indications are she's got a real personality in End Game.

This could have been done on purpose, from the start, could be why the reshoots, after CM was so horribly panned, OR... it could just be one clever head fake, to get angry white males, like myself , to buy tickets.

For those who have seen the SJW iteration, did Gemma Chan or McKenna Grace have significant screen time?

For reshoots, did they extract the corncob from her bung first?

Stay classy, Brie.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I just noticed that for her stage name, she chose the Family Name of her mom's grandmother, Elva (Larson) Hunt. I suppose it's her mom's mom's mom's birth name, which came from Elva's dad, and at some point, the Son of Lars.

lol. wow. I purged that information the second I read it. I don't think there is anything in the entire world that I honestly could care less about than how she got her name.

I find it quite striking that you even took the time to type that paragraph out.

Speaking of End Game...

I saw a review for the movie by redlettermedia yesterday.

As interesting and sci-fi as the spoilers sounded, (and accurate too) it seems that the makers of Star Trek Voyager could have a legitimate case against Marvel for plagiarism if they felt the desire to pursue it.

I never watched Voyager beyond the first or second season, but my old man raved about the arc of the ending of the show.

Mike from redlettermedia is a HUGE Trek fan and almost always seems to sneak in references in most of his reviews. This one, however, seems more than coincidental.

And what was the title of the final episode that aired on May 23, 2001, you might ask?

Endgame

Try to purge the last few episodes of Voyager from your mind before seeing End Game, or else you already have a lot of the spoilers.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Not how she GOT her name, how she CHOSE her name. It's all gyrrrl power, girls are only descended from wymmin, not from men.

That's what her wacky delusions are Founded in.
