Can Alita: Battle Angel Hit the $500 Million Mark?
It would be surprising if Alita can reach $450 million by the end of its worldwide box office run, meaning coveted $500 million mark is a virtual impossibility at this point.
Not even the manga adaptation's native Japan responded terribly well, with the movie earning only $3.2 million in the country during its opening weekend and dropping out of the Japanese top ten highest earning films in theaters by its third weekend.
Unless Robert Rodriguez's manga adaptation performs extraordinarily well with its home video release, Alita: Battle Angel is not a sure fire candidate to receive a sequel . . .

20th Century Fox's Alita: Battle Angel earned another $4 million overseas to bring its foreign cume to $312.4m (including $129.5m in China). Combined with a $1.9m domestic weekend (-40%) and an $81.8m domestic cume, the $170m-budgeted Rosa Salazar sci-fi actioner has earned $394m worldwide thus far. It may top $400m next weekend, but it's essentially finished after reaching that admittedly arbitrary milestone.
Unless it makes gazillions of dollars in post-theatrical, or Avatar 2 makes so much money that Disney feels like doing James Cameron a solid, this is the end of the line for the Battle Angel. Put this Robert Rodriguez-directed gem in the one-and-done franchise box.

It's still got a lot of money to make in BluRay and streaming. It'll be fine.
It barely had a marketing budget, and it wasn't that expensive to make, comparatively speaking.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

Quote:You could say exactly the same about Serenity. You will not see Serenity 2 or 3. There might be Alita 2, maybe, if we are very lucky. Serenity 2? No luck.

Despite the negative press, it's being held over in China until April 21.
Alita is just shy of $400M
, and there's the DVD/Blu-ray sales to consider. Word of mouth, do your magic.

6 Reasons Alita: Battle Angel Deserves A Sequel

#6: Thanks To The Perfect Cliffhanger, Alita: Battle Angel Sets Up For A Sequel
Any potential film series tends to set up a lot of the world the franchise will walk or sprint through in other installments during its first chapter. Alita: Battle Angel perfectly sets up the big tent of a story arc that the entire trilogy would cover, leaving the audience wanting more. By time the film's finale kicks in, you want to see Alita take her fight to Zalem, and witness her kick the series' big bad, Nova into the next solar system in climactic fashion. Most films wish they had a sign off as powerful as Alita: Battle Angel does; however, not all of them get it.

As Alita: Battle Angel nears the end of its theatrical run, the manga adaptation has reached another milestone at the global box office.
Director Robert Rodriguez's film has crossed the $400 million mark worldwide, $316.2 million of which comes from foreign markets, with the remaining $83.8 million deriving from the United States and Canada.
With a reported production budget of $170 million after tax credits, entertainment analysts predicted James Cameron-produced film would have to earn at least $350 million to break even. Wth its marketing and distribution costs, however, other analysts estimated the adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga would need to make as much as $500 million to recoup its expenses.
Alita crossed the $300 million mark overseas nearly a month into its release, buoyed largely by China, the world's second-largest film market. With Shazam! opening next week and Captain Marvel still going strong, however, it's highly unlikely the manga adaptation will reach $450 million before leaving theaters.

So then, nobody found any of the plot points or backstory interesting enough to discuss?
Maybe that's because everybody saw it more than once. Is that it? I only saw it twice so far.
What was your favorite scene? Or line?
Mine might be "I do not stand by in the presence of Evil"

Fox is merging Disney. Disney is less likely than Fox to make a sequel to Alita.
Fox has made some great business decisions in their past, but they’re also not immune from making a few flops. In the first two months of 2019, they have released The Kid Who Would Be King and Alita: Battle Angel, both of which are predicted to lose hundreds of millions of dollars combined for the studio. Those movies were the sort of risk Disney would probably never take, so it seems safe to assume we won’t see the likes of them coming out of the studio any time soon following the merger.

Well, to tell the truth, I'm not sure I care about the zombies and kiddies who have not seen Alita.
I'm not sure if I've heard of anybody who saw Alita and didn't enjoy it.
