I haven't really seen anybody here mentioning flaws in the story. Other than those who have not seen it.

Does that mean there are none?
Other than Hugo getting crushed shoulder and then climbing buildings.

I think a lot of the backstory is implied, but not yet spelled out.

If you want to nitpick, Vector gets a sword into his chest and out his back, yet he can keep talking, giving Nova's soliloquy about how he has eyes everywhere. I was kind of hoping that Alita would do an eye-roll that indicates she can't believe how evil Nova is.

I did not consider a flaw to be the blossoming relationship between a teenage boy and a Triple Centurian girl.

I just realized another thing. I had assumed the Law Keepers were named Senturians. But maybe they were Centurians. How ironic.

I agree, the backstory was not completely fleshed out. My take on this is we are seeing Alita's story from her point of view, flashbacks in bits and pieces
as we flash into her brain, her thoughts, her feelings. She is as human as she is a cyborg.

That is the premise of the movie. She falls in love, both with Hugo and her father and mother.

The flaw that I refer to in my pocket review is not that these two fall in love; it's has to do with the execution within the movie Jewels. Salazar was so damn believable depicting an innocence and vulnerability that older actresses struggle with.

The actor playing "Hugo" was not up to the challenge, and so, IMHO, failed to convince me that he "was" in love with Alita. Salazar became Alita, while he was acting like he was in love. She was in love with him. That's how good she was. So when I talk about flaws, no matter how minor, that's what I meant.
Ultimately, it did not ruin the movie for me. I was riveted by Salazar's performance. Will it win an Oscar, of course not. But she was so good that I fell in love with her. That's when you know that something good has taken place. I refer to her as "Ripley-like." Her mission was to protect the boy she loved...I got that from her. Very convincingly.

I want to see it again, this time in IMAX.

Did you feel there were any other flaws?
Did you find Michelle Rodriguez, Jai Courtney, and James Van Der Beek? And recognize Hugo's friend as Memo from Bumblebee?

I wondered if it was intentional humor having James Earle Haley as the largest character in the film.

In the comics, does Alita ever make it to Zalem? Yes, she does. What does she do when she gets there? Nova gives her a choice: “How does it feel to have the world resting in the palm of your hand?” The choice Alita makes is very cinematic. It should make a good ending for a movie.

From the table of contents of the final volume of the Alita comic, you can tell what will happen before Alita makes her choice – one fight after another:

For a sequel that won't exist, spoilers don't exist. Remember the Big Damn Trilogy? Serenity 2 and 3 won't exist and can't be spoiled. For Alita, there is more than enough material in the comic books for Alita 2, 3, all the way to 9 but I think they will skip 2 through 8 because 1 is not doing that great at the boxoffice. Instead, they will jump to the end of the series at Alita 9 or maybe not make anything more.

Alita is in a much better situation than Serenity was. Alita's ticket sales are twice as large as Serenity's, in comparison to what each movie cost to make. And Alita already has the story written for all the sequels. Serenity doesn't know where to go next with the story. You can tell that from looking at the comics that came out in the last 15 years about Firefly. The story is flying in circles with no particular planet for a destination.
