"I don't trust anything that comes out of acedemia today relating to the issue because it's so politically charged and they're Liberal strongholds in the nation today."

Then it's an international conspiracy that for decades has involved the Chinese, the Russians, and the Iranians, too.

If the Whigs said gravity existed and the Tories said it didn't, would you stop accepting the reality of gravity because you thought it was politicized? Or would you say the answer was somewhere in the middle? Sometimes Jack, the truth is the truth, no matter which side holds it.

Personally, I don't know how this is going to play out. If we're lucky, we're on an even slope where smaller causes have smaller effects, and larger causes have larger effects - but we can gauge the effects by the inputs.

If we're not lucky, we're stepping across thresholds where, due to positive feedback loops, outcomes become incalculable and things will go badly, quickly, in unpredictable ways at unforeseen times.

Either way, we've already measurably changed the CO2 levels to those not seen for nearly a million years, changed the temperature of every ocean, and its acidity, and melted glaciers in a couple of decades that have lasted for tens of millennia. At the very least.

They should probably take the politics out of College then. They could think of it as saving the world.

The lack of objectivity everywhere you turn due to politics is reaching a critical mass today.

If they're right about the climate change and we are indeed making the planet uninhabitable, that lack of objectivity that the College Elite decided to display when they went full Leftist could actually be squarely to blame for the end of the world as we know it.

I'd prefer we start a separate topic about this if we're just going to keep arguing the same points over and over. It doesn't belong in this thread any more than T's posts do.

I'm with you there, Jack!

Anyway, I'm going to start making some ham and bean soup with some pork hocks I got today. It'll probably be a while -days - before I get back. In the meantime, take care. ttul

I am so angry right now I could chew nails.

Run in with my idiot landlady again. I was just informed that I have to either put my recyclables in the blue bin one at a time or bag them and walk down the hill to the recycling depot.

I could just SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

B7tch is also doing her laundry which means that I can't use my toilet until she is finished because I loose water pressure in my toilet when they do. She obviously waited until I got in DELIBERATELY to do this.

Glad we agree. :)

You take care too.

I really can't wait to hear the day that you're able to get out of there Brenda. Hang in there. :)

My replies may be somewhat sporadic for the foreseeable future.

I started having what appears to be a serious computer problem when it overheated last week. It's happened before and just shut down with no ill effects, but this time it seems there might be something serious going on. It randomly freezes and needs a hard reset.

At this point I've eliminated the possibility that it's one of my memory sticks, my GPU or my sound card. Also did a fresh Win10 OS install and that's not the culprit either.

I'm looking at the possibility that it's new Win10 drivers causing it and it's just a coincidence, or something more nefarious like a Mobo or CPU problem. If either of those are the case then I'm kinda screwed since this is a 5 year old build and I'd have to buy all new memory since DDR3 isn't used anymore these days... and because of a recent "memory shortage", they're not cheap these days.

Going to tinker with it the next few weeks before I make a decision about what I'm going to do. Wish me luck. :)

Me too Jack. I am hanging. It is all I can do.

Oh wow! I hope you can get your comp problems straightened out. I hate when things like that happen. This critter is one of my main lines to the outside world.

Good luck. I am heading out in a bit.

SIX, make sure that your fans are working, the mesh screens are clean, and use compressed air to blow the dust out of the heat sinks. Heat is the #1 PC/laptop/tablet killer, and dust is the #1 cause of heat buildup.

Also don't know if you have a desktop or laptop, but in hot weather a laptop really needs to breathe, so putting it on a soft surface can smother the air inlets. If all else fails, get a small portable fan and blow it on your computer (once its been cleaned).

Best of luck!

ARGHH! Oh BRENDA, I feel for you! But I hear that the Vancouver housing market is finally deflating. Maybe prices will come down and vacancies at better rents will open up. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Sig and I hope so. Having to rearrange how I do that will be a killer in the colder months. More cane usage for sure.

Yeah. I've never been one to take very good care of my PC's. Couple that with the fact that I use mine in the only room that I smoke in the entire house and the 2nd hand smoke is a killer.

That really isn't an issue since by the time they're ready to go it's usually time to upgrade it anyhow. I was actually surprised to see that it had been almost 5 years ago that I had done an upgrade this time. I went a pretty cheap route though, and I only bought a new mobo, memory and CPU at the time. I kept using an old graphics card, power supply and an old networking card, all three of which caused me major problems at some point, needed to be replaced and likely shortened the life of this thing.

This time I'm going to upgrade everything but the case, since my case is amazing (It should be, it cost me almost $300 back when I was making a good buck). Fortunately it seems that most decent mobo's today come with wifi, so I won't have to worry about a dongle, and I could actually spring a little more for a GPU onboard as well and not worry about the cost of another card or the card shorting out at some point. I don't really enjoy PC gaming all that much, so it's not like I need a high end unit or anything. Just something that doesn't work at a snails pace like this ancient laptop I'm using to type this.

I'm currently installing Windows 7 on an alternate drive and we'll see how that goes. My last ditch effort is going to be trying to install Linux and seeing if there are still failures.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about this kind of stuff compared to most people, but diagnosing hardware issues was never my thing. I used to just buy all the parts and put another one together when I had a catastrophic failure. Money is a bit tight at the moment though, so this might be my opportunity to learn. Assuming it's hardware related, if I can figure out a way to pinpoint the exact component that is causing my issues it would be a super cheap fix compared to putting together a whole new rig. I bought a good setup 5 years ago and for my needs it still works just fine as long as it's not crashing.

We'll see what happens....

Do Right, Be Right. :)
