There are a variety uv idiots. FBI director James Comey iz the type that rezults frum having bad lojik. They are perhaps the most danjerous kind uv idiot, kuz they can usually operate very well in our society and rize to pozitionz uv great power.

In the case uv the 2016 election, the spesific fault wuz failure to consider possible rezults. NY Timez article: Comey Tried To Shileld FBI Frum Politics and did the exact EXTREEM oppozit!

It's like the hed uv the security team at a bank watching an group uv masked men armed with gunz & bomz and safe cracking equipment walk in and start taking over. A teller asks "why arent you doing sumthing?" He sez "I am! I'm gathering evidens for prosecution. The more they take, the better the case!"
Then he seez a woman at the document stand. "HEY LADY! Youre filling out the rong form! Thats a savingz depozit slip, not a checking account slip! LOOK EVERYBODY! SHE UZED THE RONG SLIP!

Az stoopid az that soundz, its a good analog to Putin'z seksesful operation to take over the Wite Hows.

That's actually a lot more common of a practice than you might think.

One of the guys I worked with at the Mart stole "checkout" food all the time before break time. He did it on the sly at first, but as happens all the time he got more bold and careless about it and his "free 95" jokes became like a daily meme around there. Then one day, he was gone.

I found out from my boss that security had known he was doing it, but continued to let him do it until he racked up over $300.00 so not only could they fire him but they could press criminal charges on him as well. My boss said they took him in the security office before firing him and showed him a video of all the times they had him on camera stealing.

I see no reason why the Government would not operate in the same manner.

Yes, I'v seen it alot. Long term sting operationz that try to catch the big fish. Seemz they go rong fairly often. Remember Witey Boljer?

Call me Krazy, but taking this consept to the 'let Russia win' level iz going too far by a million milez.

I keep hearing that there are 17 intellijens ajensyz and they are all investigating this. I can only name 3 - FBI, CIA, NSA, (unless there really iz an Omega Sector) and their job iz to protect the country from external and internal attack. Wut are the other 14 suppoze to be doing?

Iz there a DuLFHGPOL (Department uv Let Forin Hostile Goverments Pick Our Leaderz) who iz going to work on constructing an airtite case and no matter wut damaj TrumPutin duz they arent going to be rushed?

I'm not saying it's a good idea, I'm just saying that I've seen it done. Even a small scale, such as the instance that I saw, it pisses me off. The guy already has some problems since he's working overnight for minimum wage. Just fire him if you know he's stealing. Why be a dick and let him do it until you can make sure nobody else is going to hire him?

I would agree if I thought there was anything going on. I just don't believe any of it.

One of the reasons I don't believe any of it. They obviously exist since Signy replied with a list of all of them, but just because they have names doesn't mean they actually do anything.

The whole Russia thing to me boils down to two scenarios:

1. There is nothing to it.
2. There is something to it, but they're not going to actually do anything about it because they want it to happen, but at the same time it makes for good manipulating of the population to make them think they are going to do something about it.

As far as I know we have some of the best and brightest minds in the world working in our intelligence departments and it's very likely that the old white men that are being accused of things barely even know how to use their smart phones. Let's just say that I don't think any of them would have been able to keep their illegal servers from being hacked if they were Hillary.

So... what's the problem then? Why don't we, the people, have cold hard facts that Russia _____________ (fill in the blank)?

Wow, actual English!

Sorry to say, but the American democracy has always been borderline. Sometimes democracy gets the upper hand, but antidemocratic forces are in charge much of the time.

Joe McCarthy did a great job of stifling free speech.

Nixon used all the tools of the trade- the IRS, satellites, FBI etc to spy on anti-war dissidents like Jane Fonda.

The FBI had an ongoing (illegal) program - COINTELPRO -
Quote:

aimed at surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting and disrupting American political organizations. COINTELPRO ... targeted ... anti-Vietnam War organizers, Civil Rights Movement ... feminist organizations, anti-colonial movements ...
and environmentalists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO

The CIA wasn't sitting still either; from the moment of its inception it started destabilizing foreign governments and conduction "false flag" operations for propaganda purposes. You should look up Operation Gladio. https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Operation_Gladio

We (people) were lied into every war/ intervention that I can remember including the false reports of the Gulf of Tonkin incident which got us stuck in Vietnam, the false reports of Noreiga being a "major drug dealer" which got us into Panama, the false reports of WMD being in Iraq, the false reports of massacres in Libya, the false reports of "Russia invading Georgia", and the false reports that Assad "gassed his own people".

Now, in my book, lying to /propagandizing people is simply not democratic.

Also, the backdoors that the NSA had built into Microsoft, the universal surveillance of American communication begun when GWB's spooks spliced into the AT&T office in SF, and completed by Obama, the passage of the so-called Patriot Act and the continuing War Powers act which is used to justify every American act of aggression abroad- even Trump's - under the figleaf of "global war on terror". (Best comment on that is that you can fight a war on a noun. The "war on terror" will wind up like the "war on drugs" and the "war on poverty" and the "war on cancer".)

But now that I think about it, I guess America hasn't really been fully democratic for a long time. I guess you could say that we follow the form in that we hold regular elections.

I don't know about worried. That's always on my radar, but I really just don't care all that much anymore. It's not like it started a few months ago. This too has been going on since I was alive, and likely since the beginning of man. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I cannot imagine why Comey has not been fired and replaced. The guy is an embarrassment. His election interference was disgraceful and unprecedented. Under his direction the FBI has failed to arrest and prosecute criminal activities by scores of politicians and Govt. bureaucrats. Seems they're always "investigating" something with no results. Comey has to go, and that idiot hick A.G. Sessions can go with him. So glad Trump won the election so that with a majority in both Houses of Congress along with the Justice Dept. nothing can get done.

You are correct! Indeed, one director in the Bureau’s history – former federal judge William S. Sessions – was fired for ethical reasons by President Bill Clinton in the summer of 1993, a little more than halfway through a 10-year appointment. The President’s public explanation was that there had been a loss of confidence in Sessions’ leadership. Then-Attorney General Janet Reno recommended the dismissal.

A Republican stranded in a Democratic Administration, Mr. Sessions was appointed to head the F.B.I. by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. He served under four Attorneys General, and each complained privately about his absentee management style, his frequent traveling -- often to unimportant events -- and his inability to take command.

Either the Senate can insist on replacing Comey with a credible new leader who will continue its Trump/Russia investigation and follow the evidence wherever it leads, or it can tacitly accept Trump’s blatant effort to derail the inquiry.

Trump wrote, “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau.” That sentence is likely to be parsed in days to come, and no FBI agent is dumb enough to miss its logic. It’s a formulation in which "effectively" leading the bureau is linked to not investigating Trump.

Those words are the stuff obstruction of justice is made of. Trump announced that he was beginning the search for a new FBI head. The nominee will require Senate confirmation, which is shaping up as a major test for the Senate. Republican senators have been playing along with his diversionary tactics meant to muddy the Russia probe (trying to change the subject to press leaks, for instance). But now the burden is squarely on them to stand up for the integrity of the FBI and the Russia investigation.

I had to laugh when I heard about this yesterday. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to a computer to post about it first. I was on the phone with my brother when "Breaking News" came on and said that Trump fired Comey.

LOL... I said he should have done it a month ago when Second was still blaming Comey for being the sole reason that Clinton lost the election and the MSM was still painting him as a bad guy.

I got to hand it to Trump... He's definitely got a few lessons to learn about timing.

As soon as my brother told me about it I said that when I got back to my computer I was going to see a lot of posts about how Putin did it. Thanks for not letting me down guys and gals.

Sure thing, 6ixstring. The head of the FBI calls Hillary an unconvicted criminal on three occasions. The third time Comey said he did not have enough evidence to convict Hillary of a felony that keeps her in jail for life, but he would keep investigating once she was President. No significant effect on the election, whatsoever. Sure thing, 6ixstring.

Come to think of it, Comey pulled the same stunt on Trump that he did on Hillary. Comey kept insinuating three times that he does not have enough evidence to convict Trump of a felony that keeps him in jail for life, but Comey would keep investigating.

I actually can't argue with any of that Second, except that I think the huge premium increase on health insurance hit most people's mailboxes the same day Comey said that about Hillary the third time. There were a lot of reasons Hillary lost.

At least you're admitting that the FBI director did, in fact, accuse Hillary of felonious behavior now.

All of this is why I said what I did about Trump needing to learn some lessons in timing. I'd never want to be "king", but if I were a close personal advisor of Trump's I would have had him oust Comey about a month ago and the Democrats would have probably cheered.

Stupid, stupid, stupid thing to do now....

Part of what tied the FBIs' hands in dealing with Hillary if you remember, was general David Petraeus being charged with a misdemeanor. He plead guilty to mishandling classified materials. What he did was much worse than what Hillary did. How could Comey now charge her with a felony?

Wouldn't want to let you down Jack, so here you go. You really should question your motives ( sense of reality ) for being on the same side of the argument as SIG, 1kiki and sockpuppet when it comes to Trumps possible connections to Russia, and not your own governments. We're talking both Republicans and Democrats Jack who thinks this warrants an investigation. It is both Republicans and Democrats who are investigating.

The New York Times

Days Before He Was Fired, Comey Asked for Money for Russia Investigation

Days before he was fired, James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, asked the Justice Department for a significant increase in money and personnel for the bureau’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election, according to three congressional officials who were briefed on his request.

There was a $100,000 fine, too. The deal angered FBI agents who worked on the lengthy investigation and who thought Petraeus should have been treated more harshly. When FBI agents confronted him in his CIA office in October 2012, Petraeus said he had never provided classified information to Broadwell, prosecutors said. Making a false statement to a federal law enforcement agent during an investigation is a felony, a crime punishable by up to five years in prison. Judge Keesler, while passing sentence, told Petraeus that he had been “untruthful” and that his behavior “constituted a serious lapse of judgment.” But the Judge did not throw Petraeus in jail for 5 years, although he could have.

Even Comey wanted Petraeus charged with a Felony. The department of justice gets to make the call. Lets face it, Petraeus performed a great service for this country, and it was a stupid mistake.

You really are dull witted. I still haven't said Putin was behind Comeys' firing. I just posted a news story from a reputable source. As for the guys you've listed to replace him, they wouldn't want the job. It's a career killer. Why, because whomever takes the job is going to be very busy investigating Republicans and White House staff. It's one of the reasons Chaffetz is not going to run for relection in 2018. He'll wait Trump out and then come back.

Hey, if Comey needed more money, then there's something there that is troubling. Plus, "A senior Congressional official with direct knowledge told NBC News that James Comey briefed Congress in recent days that he had requested more staff and money for the Russia investigation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein." The same guy who then wrote a report detailing why he should be fired. A report citing actions that Trump had previously praised him for. Wake up Jack

This article should really wake up you and Trump about the terrible blunder Trump made yesterday: "By firing James Comey, Trump has put impeachment on the table"
www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/10/15611522/comey-trump-obstruc
tion-justice-impeachment

The entire article goes into greater detail than this taste:
Quote:

The old saw that the cover-up is worse than the crime often obscures more than it reveals. But in the case of President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, it carries an important element of truth. It escalates the administration’s Russia scandal, and, for the first time, provides indications of impeachable offenses.

Nothing we’ve seen credibly reported thus far about Trump and Russia would amount to an impeachable offense, and indeed, it’s not really clear what allegations of “collusion” on the campaign trail would really amount to even if proven.

Firing the FBI director in order to obstruct an ongoing investigation would be different.

That obstruction charge is, of course, unproven as of Wednesday afternoon. But the probable cause is everywhere. And it makes a sham of the notion that replacing Comey with a well-qualified director or continuing with existing congressional inquiries is a sufficient remedy.

Even if he is completely innocent, Trump just swallowed a slow acting poison. Now he needs to find the antidote for what he did to himself. During the 2016 presidential campaign, few Republicans in Congress were under the delusion that Trump’s rise to prominence was a good thing for the conservative movement. They worried, overwhelmingly, that his erratic ways were going to drag them down with him.

It doesn’t have to end with impeachment. Trump could stop being an important player in Washington as soon as Congress starts whispering: “Does Trump have dementia? Or is his problem Alzheimer's?”

When Congress thinks Trump is incompetent, he might as well fly in Marine One to play golf Monday through Friday. Trump could be in early retirement while nominally remaining the present President. When Trump goofs off, VP Mike Pence could do the real work of a President, as VP Dick Cheney did for silly-in-the-head President Bush.

But I DO know that -literally- not one short week ago he was the Hillary's nightmare, the man who single-handedly brought down her campaign, and Dem party loyalists could hardly wait to get rid of him. It's difficult to understand how some people can turn their opinion around completely and not even notice their new direction.

It is implausible that FBI Director James Comey was fired in May 2017 for actions committed in July 2016 — the rationale contained in the memo by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

It is implausible that Comey was fired by Donald Trump for having been too tough on Hillary Clinton, as when, at that July news conference, he publicly recited her various email misdeeds despite recommending against prosecution.

It is implausible that Trump fired Comey for, among other things, reopening the Clinton investigation 11 days before the election, something that at the time Trump praised as a sign of Comey’s “guts” that had “brought back his reputation.”

It’s implausible that Trump, a man notorious for being swayed by close and loyal personal advisers, fired Comey on the recommendation of a sub-Cabinet official whom Trump hardly knew and who’d been on the job all of two weeks.

It is implausible that Trump found Rosenstein’s arguments so urgently persuasive that he acted immediately — so precipitously, in fact, that Comey learned of his own firing from TVs that happened to be playing behind him.

So why in reality did Trump fire Comey? Now we know: The king asked whether no one would rid him of this troublesome priest, and got so impatient he did it himself.

Trump had become increasingly agitated with the Russia-election investigation and Comey’s very public part in it. If Trump thought this would kill the inquiry and the story, or perhaps even just derail it somewhat, he’s made the blunder of the decade. Whacking Comey has brought more critical attention to the Russia story than anything imaginable. It won’t stop the FBI investigation. And the confirmation hearings for a successor will become a nationally televised forum for collusion allegations, which up till now have remained a scandal in search of a crime.

That's why I have to agree with G here.

Trump should have fired Comey 3-4 weeks ago and even the Dems would have loved it.

I still don't buy into the Russian narrative, but even I have to admit that the timing on this is so terrible that it looks really, really bad.

Has anybody in Washington ever played chess before, or are we just at the point where "the people" are so weak and stupid and so easily manipulated one way or another that they don't even care what we think anymore?

I and others have on many occasions documented SIGs' removal of portions of another posters, or legitimate news outlets reported text, then inserting her own text in its place. imony-2017-239253

I havent red it. It woud be like a movie spoiler for me. But from wut I herd on the newz, its not going to be the bomshell the media haz been hyping it up to be.

Hopefully, the questionz from the Democrats will bring out sumthing more.

Maybe its the lull befor the storm?

The open session hearing wuz bad enuf for Trump. The many 'cant ansr that sitting here' questionz that woud prezumably be ansrd in the later clozed session gotta be much worse.

And hiz personal lawyer goofing up afterward didnt help.

A BIG thing iz the New York Timez (and otherz) storyz disputed by Comey. They are sticking to their story.

It wuz awful watching John McCain rattle on in confusion.

He wuz under the impression that the Hillary email investigation wuz part uv the Russian hacking investigation. He kept pressing Comey to ansr "why wuz Clinton cleared but Trump wuz not" until finally getting shut down by committee chairman Burr smacking hiz gavel and loudly telling him hiz time wuz up.

He looked pale and splochy, like an old man having a myocardial infarction.

Spin it any way you want to J0.

That was the big reveal yesterday that I've been hearing about for so long. Not only was there nothing revealed, but it turns out that Loretta Lynch directly asked Comey to downplay the criminal investigation against Hillary and only refer to it as a "matter".

I'll let you hold on to hope that the closed door session was more fruitful. I'm sure Maddow was full of speculation on that matter.

Just watched the interview with Stefanopolus.

He still duznt get it, bekuz he cant fase the horrible truth that he gave Trump the win.

Az I stated in the OP, hiz failure wuz bad lojik: He prioritized a detail over the main subject.

'If I follow standard proseedure and do nothing, I may hav sum splaining to do to clean sum mud off the FBI'z reputation'

vs.

'If I break standard proseedure by anounsing a politically sensitiv investigation dayz befor the election, I am risking a rediculously unqualified con man who may be under the thum uv the forin adversary thats been attacking the election prosess bekuming the next Prezident.'

'hmmm. Let me think --- Hillary iz way up in the pollz, so ye, totally worth the risk!'

'And you know wut? I'm going to break SOP anyway, but AGENST HILLARY!'

Add a failure uv imajination.

He, and prezumably nobody he wuz confering with, bothered to consider the possibilityz.

Suppoze Putin had a bigger game going on, beyond wut we know about even now.

Wut if the plan wuz to disable the White House soon after inauguration with a full fors kompromat thret wile launching a massiv syber attak on the power grid, the internet, the banking system, etc?

Az far az I can tell thats still an option. The likelyhood will only go up with the Cohen situation diluting the leveraj. Putin may uze it befor its worthless.

Then therez the standard proseedure itself.

Democrasy iz completely dependent on a well informed electorate. Well informed and not stoopid.

The GoP haz ruined both parts uv that with their 30 yir propaganda program and gathering the dummyz uv the nation into a cohesive voting block.

So the rule to not divulj politicly sensativ info within 60 dayz uv an election works for any bad guy trying to illegally skew it in hiz favor.

The day after the vote the FBI kumz out with 'hey, gess wut - the guy you just elected iz actually Satan! Weird, huh? We've been looking into it for a few months, but werent sure till this morning, so it woudnt hav been fair to say anything.'

In fairness to Comey, Obama gets at least az much blame on this count and the failure uv imajination.

Comey doesn’t think Trump should be impeached because he believes the American people can’t be left “off the hook,” and instead need to take responsibility for removing Trump through an election. “People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values,” said Comey. Only voting, he suggested, can deliver a worthy defeat.

Impeaching the president, Comey believes, would be a quick fix to a larger problem: “You cannot have, as president of the United States, someone who does not reflect the values that I believe Republicans treasure and Democrats treasure and Independents treasure,” Comey said. “That is the core of this country. That’s our foundation. And so impeachment, in a way, would short circuit that.”

Comey continued:

“I think we owe it to each other to get off the couch and think about what unites us. I think about the people who supported Trump, and continue to support Trump.”

“A lotta them come from families with a proud history of military service. And that’s a wonderful thing. What did their fathers and grandfathers fight and die for? Not for immigration policy. Not for a tax policy. Not for Supreme Court justice. They fought and died for a set of ideas. The rule of law. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The truth.”

“That’s what they fought and died for. And at some point, we have to focus on that and make sure that whoever’s leading us embodies those and we judge that leader by their tether to those values. Then we’ll go back to fighting like cats and dogs about all the things we normally fight about.”

https://qz.com/1253084

"The foundation of this country is in jeopardy when we stop measuring our leaders against that central value of the truth," Comey said. Trump’s approval rating is 40%. That 40% share Trump’s values. Trump brags today that it is 50%. Whether 40% or 50%, those sharing Trump's values place America in serious trouble long after Trump is out of office.

What a bunch of blather. He's selling books. I don't buy his choir boy sales pitch.
The real problem >imho< is that this country really IS nearly half full of dumb cluks who voted for Trump and will do it again if they get a chance.

Just making sure J0. It's hard to tell which way the wind is blowing with you sometimes.

Anybody wanna do me a favor and see how many times J0 has flip-flopped on Comey's character?

The other option. I know you don't want to talk about it, but she's still important because Trump is our President.

A lot of people didn't vote for Trump. They voted against Hillary.

Do your part and put up a good candidate this time.

We're going to be rapidly approaching two years of bitching and whining and moaning from the left, but getting nothing done. The left is still plagued by identity politics, doubling down against whites and males, and there hasn't been any mention of any legitimate candidates for the left outside of Oprah and The Rock.

Don't be surprised if Trump gets re-elected at this rate.

He'z a good guy, just not very smart.

Back in 2016 we didnt know so much about him, so it wuz a reazonable propozition that he wuz part uv the GoP conspirasy after hiz stunt with the Wiener laptop.

Further evidens that he iz an idiot. America will be a part uv the New Soviet Union and Comey will still be worried about proper (az he seez it) legal proseedure.

I'd like to believe that's true, but I've actually never read that anywhere before. Are you sure about that?

We've been hearing about how Putin has successfully hijacked the whitehouse in this thread for exactly a year now. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY STOOPID COMEY THREAD!!!!!)

I wonder what Comey's going to say next that will make him a villain again. Democrats just can't seem to make up their mind about him. They're like Chicago fair weather fans of any team outside of the Cubs.

You think that Comey is stupid? My dear, you're giving him far too much credit. He's not stupid, he's just corrupt.

Quote:

As the Deputy Director of the FBI, I am charged, standing with Director Patel, with managing the most powerful law enforcement agency in the world. The Director and I are also responsible for looking at grave mistakes made by people within the FBI in the past, and ensuring they never happen again.

And while the FBI does not have primary investigative responsibility for investigating threats against the POTUS, and we do not make prosecutorial decisions, we do have the ability and authority to support other federal agencies for violations of federal law. And we certainly have a responsibility to comment on matters involving former FBI officials, and allegations of law-breaking.

That said, former FBI Director James Comey brought shame to the FBI badge, yet again, this past week. The Director and I spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning up messes left behind by former Director Comey. And his latest actions are no exception.

As I’ve stated in the past, I cannot post openly about all the things the Director and I are doing to reform the enterprise, but I assure you, they are happening. Sadly, many of those agenda items are the result of former Director Comey’s poor decision making and atrocious leadership. And to those who doubt me, I assure you, when you see what the Director and I see from the inside, it’s even worse. I’m addressing this now, rather than on our interview with Maria Bartiromo tomorrow, because we recorded that interview earlier in the week prior to the incident with Comey.

God bless America, and all those who defend Her.
