FULL TEXT OF TRUMP'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
By all accounts, it was a much-longer-than-usual acceptance speech, but there is a logic behind addressing all of these points: It makes hash of the Republican platform. Whatever it was, it doesn't count any more. But for the sake of completeness I'll see if I can find the platform as well.
Quote:
Friends, delegates and fellow Americans: I humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States.
Together, we will lead our party back to the White House, and we will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace. We will be a country of generosity and warmth. But we will also be a country of law and order.
Our Convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation. The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life. Any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country.
Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities. Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have even been its victims.
I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored.
The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens. Any government that fails to do so is a government unworthy to lead.
It is finally time for a straightforward assessment of the state of our nation.
I will present the facts plainly and honestly. We cannot afford to be so politically correct anymore.
So if you want to hear the corporate spin, the carefully-crafted lies, and the media myths the Democrats are holding their convention next week.
But here, at our convention, there will be no lies. We will honor the American people with the truth, and nothing else.
Decades of progress made in bringing down crime are now being reversed by this Administration’s rollback of criminal enforcement.
Homicides last year increased by 17% in America’s fifty largest cities. That’s the largest increase in 25 years. In our nation’s capital, killings have risen by 50 percent. They are up nearly 60% in nearby Baltimore.
In the President’s hometown of Chicago, more than 2,000 have been the victims of shootings this year alone. And more than 3,600 have been killed in the Chicago area since he took office.
The number of police officers killed in the line of duty has risen by almost 50% compared to this point last year. Nearly 180,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records, ordered deported from our country, are tonight roaming free to threaten peaceful citizens.
The number of new illegal immigrant families who have crossed the border so far this year already exceeds the entire total from 2015. They are being released by the tens of thousands into our communities with no regard for the impact on public safety or resources.
One such border-crosser was released and made his way to Nebraska. There, he ended the life of an innocent young girl named Sarah Root. She was 21 years-old, and was killed the day after graduating from college with a 4.0 Grade Point Average. Her killer was then released a second time, and he is now a fugitive from the law.
I’ve met Sarah’s beautiful family. But to this Administration, their amazing daughter was just one more American life that wasn’t worth protecting. One more child to sacrifice on the altar of open borders. What about our economy?
Again, I will tell you the plain facts that have been edited out of your nightly news and your morning newspaper: Nearly Four in 10 African-American children are living in poverty, while 58% of African American youth are not employed. 2 million more Latinos are in poverty today than when the President took his oath of office less than eight years ago. Another 14 million people have left the workforce entirely.

So is the draft DNC platform, which KIKI and I posted independently. I commented at the time that it's full of "we will" and "we believe" and "we must", without any path on how to get from "here" to "there".
There are several key things MISSING from the DNC platform, however, which in my mind are crucial, and along which "more of the same" will drive the USA over a cliff.
No clear repudiation of TPP and TTIP.
No clear repudiation of Saudi Arabia's human rights failures and its not insignificant role in spreading terrorism throughout the ME and N Africa. In fact, no mention of Saudi Arabia at all.
No mention of the disaster that is Libya, and all of the other ridiculous wars that both the RNC and the DNC neocons have gotten us into.
No mention of illegal Israeli settlements which are driving violence and preventing peace.

I don't like everything that Trump said, but I like the general direction that he's pointing: AMERICAN FIRST

I think it's time you disabused yourself of that pleasant little fairy tale about our fearless leaders being some sort of surrogate daddy or mommy, laying awake at night thinking about how to protect the kids. HA! In reality, they're thinking about who to sell them to so that they can get a few more shekels in their pockets.

Quote:Trump could have said in his acceptance speech: “Unpopular TV shows get canceled. If I become unpopular as President, if I don’t keep my promises, if illegals are not all deported and I do mean all illegals, if factory jobs continue to decrease, I pledge that you can cancel me!” Trump did not commit himself to either success or resignation. He could have easily made that pledge last night when it really would have counted as an unbreakable promise from Trump to America.

Trump would be following his book The Art of the Deal: Deliver the Goods
You can’t con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don’t deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on.
I think of Jimmy Carter. After he lost the election to Ronald Reagan, Carter came to see me in my office. He told me he was seeking contributions to the Jimmy Carter Library. I asked how much he had in mind. And he said, “Donald, I would be very appreciative if you contributed five million dollars.”
I was dumbfounded. I didn’t even answer him.
But that experience also taught me something. Until then, I’d never understood how Jimmy Carter became president. The answer is that as poorly qualified as he was for the job, Jimmy Carter had the nerve, the guts, the balls, to ask for something extraordinary. That ability above all helped him get elected president. But then, of course, the American people caught on pretty quickly that Carter couldn’t do the job, and he lost in a landslide when he ran for reelection.
Ronald Reagan is another example. He is so smooth and so effective a performer that he completely won over the American people. Only now, nearly seven years later, are people beginning to question whether there’s anything beneath that smile.
I see the same thing in my business, which is full of people who talk a good game but don’t deliver. When Trump Tower became successful, a lot of developers got the idea of imitating our atrium, and they ordered their architects to come up with a design. The drawings would come back, and they would start costing out the job.
What they discovered is that the bronze escalators were going to cost a million dollars extra, and the waterfall was going to cost two million dollars, and the marble was going to cost many millions more. They saw that it all added up to many millions of dollars, and all of a sudden these people with these great ambitions would decide, well, let’s forget about the atrium.
When Trump calculates the cost of his ambitious promises in his acceptance speech he will forget the promises. He won’t resign, either.

I can't be blamed for my views. I trusted the loudest man on TV. Why would he be so loud if he weren't right?

I did not vote for Mitt in 2012, but for Obama for a second time, despite Mitt being admirably charitable. No one knows how charitable Trump is because he has still not kept his promise to release his tax returns. Yes, he has given BS excuses for why, but why believe him?

“All I did is point out the fact that on the cover of the National Enquirer there was a picture of him and crazy Lee Harvey Oswald having breakfast,” Trump said on Friday, July 22. “This was a magazine that, frankly, in many respects, should be very respected.” It was just Trump repeating another of his “Liar, liar, pants on fire” moments from earlier in the campaign.

Quote:As it turns out, Obama had a lock on CA anyway. My vote REALLY didn't count, so I was free to vote a protest vote, so I voted for Jill Stein. I figured that's more effective than not voting, and if I'm going to add my vote to any tally under those circumstances it made sense to add it to a smaller party and make a larger % difference.
Who did you vote for?
ETA: If the polling had been closer, I'm not sure who I would have voted for, but probably Jill Stein anyway.
So, as I mentioned in another thread, I'll be away a lot more. Have fun!

Quote:Who else did you vote for besides Jill Stein? Because if you voted for other Green Party candidates, you really sent a protest that was noticed. I noticed that the Green Party never has been elected to any national office and has no influence on anything. The Green Party might just as well be living and voting in Argentina for all difference it makes in the USA.

You may not have noticed , but both of CA's senators are democrats. Feinstein was elected with 62.5% of the vote vs Elizabeth Emken with 37.5% (Feinstein's war-hawk, pro-Israel stance boosted her numbers, as did Emken's unknown, under-funded status), Boxer with 52.2% vs (the uber-wealthy, well-funded and well-known) Fiorina with 42.2%. There was NOTHING riding on those votes.
Meanwhile. thanks to gerrymandering, CA House seats are secure. Nothing riding on THOSE votes either!
Say, you're not still thinking that Hillary is going to, somehow, magically, help out those down-ticket democrats, are you?
Let me just point out that the author left out vital relevant facts in the opinion piece. Doing that is known as cherry-picking. And whether you do that in the news, in discussion, in debate or in opinion, when you distort the facts, you've changed the nature of your communication into propaganda. But WE don't have any of THAT in the US, do we?!
