You looked to me with eyes of love and your face was smiling.

You saw in me hope.

I knew that you would care for me,

give to me what had been ripped from you.

Your head was high and your face was smiling.

I wanted to smile.

When we first went out together,

it felt like the first time for both of us.

Your hands were easy and your face was smiling.

Flying was free.

When the others came to us,

I feared that you would leave and run.

You stayed with me and your face was still smiling.

I tried my best for you.

When you sometimes neglected me,

my sadness nearly destroyed us all.

You nearly lost me and your face was not smiling.

He hurt you. Me.

When he tormented and terrified her,

I could not cry out “Help”.

You carried on and your face was smiling.

Until That Day.

When you put them on and burned me,

the pain was more than I could bear.

You wept for our suffering though your face was smiling.

I miss them both.

One day, someday, I know you’ll leave

and I will mourn your smiling face.

Until then, I will sing for you.
