New Beginnings: What’s in a Name?

“Gimme the gorram toast,” said Jayne as he sat down at the breakfast. He was the last to show up, which was a surprise considering that Kaylee and Simon usually arrived late most of the time and usually they both wore yesterday’s clothes.

“You could say ‘please’. It don’t hurt to be polite now an’ then,” replied Kaylee.

“Jayne polite? That’ll be the day,” added Simon.

“I was polite once. I told a woman she smelled like my favorite vibrator.”

Everyone stopped eating. They just stared at Jayne with all their mouth hanging open. Even River, who knew exactly what he was going to say, decided to stop eating for a minute to take in what he had just said.

“I think I’m finished eating my breakfast today. I’ll see you later Kaylee.”
