River loses at cards, and it falls to Simon to pick up her debt. Naked hilarity ensues. PG-13 at best, folks. Sorry.

A/N: I have found that I truly enjoy getting Simon plastered and putting him into incredibly embarassing situations. I also have a weakness for Kaylee getting her man, so hey, it works out.

This one was inspired by me waking up this morning with a cold and a Nyquil induced hangover, so Simon's initial thoughts are pretty true-to-life. The remainder is, as always, that special Firefly brand of absurdity.

**********

Simon was pretty sure his head was going to explode - no, it had exploded, and he was feeling the jagged bits poking his brain. He was also sure that durig the night, someone - probably River - had snuck into his bunk and stuffed a whole handful of cotton balls into his mouth. Further, someone had obviously rewired the lights in his room with much brighter bulbs. He was still trying to build a righteous anger towards his assailants when his sluggish brain reported another interesting piece of information.

There was someone else in the room. Specifically, that someone was laying right on top of him.

Well, of course it had to be River. She probably had a nightmare and wanted to be close to her big brother. Simon smiled to himself, the thought of being his sister's refuge sparking manly and protective thoughts. He slowly brought up his left hand to rub her shoulder. Funny. He didn't recall River owning clothing that felt this smooth. He managed to crack one eyelid to check on where she might have gotten the clothes and if it was decent. The first thing he saw was brown hair. Not black.

Huh.

At this point, despite the haze, he started putting together several alarming facts. The person definitely wasn't his sister. She was wearing a fairly revealing nightie. And in the night, Simon's right hand had wandered down and had a firm grip on her backside. This was definitely unusual. Suddenly suspicious, Simon lifted the covers slightly and looked at himself.

Yep. Nothing. Not even pyjamas.

The movement of the blanket awoke his sleeping partner. "Mornin', sunshine,"

Poor Simon!
I wish we'd had a little more description of the poker game from the beginning, though, with Jayne boasting and Mal countering, and both of them passing out. :D

ShinyGeeket here, just to gorram lazy to sign in, lol.

This was good, it reminds me of Benny and Joon. And can I just ask, where are all these poker games where cute guys are offered as prizes? Cuz I so want to play :)

Oh wow. I didn't even think of Benny and Joon, but you're right. It must have percolated out of my subconscious somehow.

I bow to the inspiration that is Johnny Depp.

Hee hee! Too much fun. Though I think everyone else'd *have* to be drunk to agree to play poker with a reader.

I third the request for Mal and Jayne drunken poker antics, if you're feeling up for it. All the same, I love this line:

"It had been quickly established that Mal and Jayne were too drunk to play, and in fact were too drunk to remain conscious."

And this...
"Simon's sense of propriety was still hanging around. Being molested while passed out was certainly not good manners."
... had me laughing out loud.

Actually, it was tough to enjoy reading this because I was feeling sorry for you after that intro!

And still I laughed. Does that make me a bad person? Ah, who cares.

"But at that moment, Simon would have sworn to any deity you chose that there was no more gorgeous creature in the 'verse than Kaylee Frye."

seriously. I figured myself a staunch Jaylee supporter, but this just made me go all melty inside...
(and really, now that I think about it, my fixation isn't so much on the 'Jayne + Kaylee' as it is on the JAYNE...)

It was pretty cute.

But you kinda fail to understand that if youre physic your gonna have trouble losing at poker. Knwoing when to call or fold hands and seeing your opponents hands kinda gives u the edge. So im sure if they played several hands and over a good period of time shes come out the victor, losing less money (or whatvee they bet)since she knows what Kaylee is holding. Although their wager is cute, even though Simon does alot for her already.

Good job.

Yeah, I know that River would win handily since she can read everyone's mind.

But:
1) Kaylee told her several times not to cheat, so they obviously realize she has an edge.
2) River flat out let Kaylee win (for obvious reasons)

Perhaps I should make it more clear that River threw the game?

Bwahahaha! I like that game! I can't believe I've never read some of these stories! These are just lovely! And Kaylee should always get her man . . . even drunk! Hee!

How about a sequel to this....? I'd like to see the shopping trip....LOL!
