AUTHOR’S NOTES:

The following story is a spin-off to the Schism series. Although, this series begins a few hours after SCHISM part 5: DELIVERANCE. (The story ties up a few loose ends from the final instalment. There’s still a matter of some unfinished business!) :D

However, new readers can still follow the events featured here. It will evolve into a different story. The action takes place three months before the BDM, exploring the character of River and her role on the ship.

A huge thank you goes to all Browncoats who supported the original series. (You know who you are.) :) This one’s for you guys!

Also, this is a Halloween story, so grab a torch, a boom stick, and enter the world of Firefly horror! :D

*WARNING!!: The following story is rated R for themes of graphic horror and violence.*

Perspective: River

River’s eyes snapped open, suddenly overcome by a strong sense of urgency. The room, or wherever she now found herself, lay in complete darkness.

River tried to stand, but found that she could not move.

A familiar, sickening feeling pushed its way up from her stomach. Her heartbeat increased, pounding inside her chest.

A single notion governed her thoughts. She had to escape.

River struggled in the dark. Her body thrashed violently, trying to break free.

A flurry of memories rushed to the surface. Remnants of the past merged inside an already fragile mind. The fun of playing war games in the lounge with Simon. The uncertainty, as she emerged from her stasis for the first time.

The thrill of running, carefree through the decks brought a smile to her face. It had been a lifetime since she had experienced those feelings. No power in the ‘verse could stop young Kaylee, River thought.

Then, she recalled the Reaver attack. Th

Hmm. Not sure I like the whole "Perspective: So and so" device, but the action was very involving and dynamic.

Good story but splitting it up into individual perspectives made the action and flow disjointed. Other than that this was very good though I am really worried about Simon. Hope that was River having a flash of a possible outcome not the real one. Ali D :~)

Nice. i like the way it was very much split into diffrent perspectives. also the cliff hanger rocked.
the intensity was cool too, it seemed very fast paced and quick, like running arround a firefly trying ta hunt down reavers.
keep going Cos man.
