How about WindowsXP BLUE SUN Edtion!

Wednesday, August 25, 2004

Several people here have noted similarities between Microsoft and Blue Sun but i believe it was TCM who first suggested the idea to me for a Blue Sun Edition boot screen. So to all who have asked here you go. It is nearly completed and will be available soon.

Remember read the instructions and know what version of Windows you are running before attempting this. Foreign Versions and Students Versions are not currently supported (although i am working on one for British versions) For people who have WinXP Home SP1 and WinXP Pro SP1 these should work great.

Why wouldn't it work on foreign versions?

Anyway, where can we get our sweaty mitts on it? :)

Rekka2: They are here---> MeChristopherRobin.com
there are four total (Firefly, Tight Pants, Hero of Canton, and Blue Sun)but only the first one is up right now untill i make a few changes to the site (it's still under construction) to include the others. You can see the rest by clicking my name and scrolling down to "My Blue Sun Items"
TCM: Wow, that is one heckofa word. My response in a word,
Awesome-cool-your-welcome-shiny-i'd insert-some-chinese-here-except-i-only-know-curse-words-and-hey-you-were-first-to-suggest-it-so-i-really-should-thank-you-so-thanks...Gorramit =)
Tomerai: Foreign versions not supported is my way of saying there are too many variables and i don't have copies of all the various versions of Windows from around the world to test it with, so it might work, might not. Many people have had great success, two that i know of had problems one had British version one had the Student. I am making progress working with britchick and should have a British version working soon. What country are you in?

FlyingTams: Don't have 100% of the story but it appears the are variations in the NT kernels from the different versions and some are not compatible with others. The three that had problems with installing this were all able to recover to their original boot screens but i'd rather not have people go through that if possible so i say in my instructions always make a backup (a good idea anyway) of the original and know what version of WindowsXP you have. If it is a version that i have not tested you may still try this, but you do so at your own risk so make sure you can recover and have your WinXP disc handy just in case.

Now all you need is to figure out how to change a blue-screen-of-death into a Blue-Sun-screen-of-death. Hopefully you would never actually have to see it come up, but you would still feel all shiny knowing it was there. *grin*

ChristopherRobin:

oof. No, I'm not *that* AB.

The initials are just a conincidence.

No Big Damn Hero, me. Just a humble EMT and MSW grad student from Boston.

Just checking, AB.
He usually posts on Prospero, not here on this board, but you never know.
Adam Baldwin responded to my WinXP Hero Edition over on the OB telling me he thought it was cool although i'm told he uses a mac and so couldn't try it if he'd wanted to. :P

If you mean EMT in the medical sense, that still counts as hero to me, good to hear from you.

Just a quick not for those who saw my cautionary post on the Firefly XP. I have a student version, that turned out to be the problem. Unless you have a foriegn or student version, looks like you'll have not prob. :)

I'm happy to say I've been working with both Britchick and Shakespeare (the two people who couldn't get these to work and had to restore) on modifications to the file and both are now running the shiny new BLUE SUN EDITION's on their pc's. One had the a british version of windows and the other had student edition. I now have files that work for both of them but take note, they are not the common ones avaiable on the webiste. To avoid confusion i am not going to post them, just email me though and i'll be happy to send them to you.
To BC and Shakespeare, Thanks for posting guys and for all the help.

Hey,

I went to the site, but the Hero and Blue Sun editions don't seem to be up? The pics are there, but no links. (could just be me--I'm slow today). I'd looove to move to the Blue Sun edition! :)

Green Arrow: Not just you buddy the last two are nearly complete and will be up soon. :)

To further clarify,
"Blue Sun Edition" is not available to the general public yet.

The three people who do have it running on their pc's, have kernels files custom made by me for their exact versions of WindowsXP.
Oh and I have it too.

The "Hero Edition" is now readily available from my site here ---> http://www.mechristopherrobin.com

Ach. I knew I shouldn't have updated to SP2.

ChristopherRobin, if you'd like me to test it out for you on my machine, let me know.
Monday, 13 September 2004 08:33
BlueSunBurn: Don't worry about updating i now have a version that has worked for SP2 in testing so far...
One way or another i'll get you a Blue Sun Edition for your SP2 machine even if i gotta make you one custom fit to your machine. Remember you're in Blue Hands.
