Day Twenty Eight.

“Eat… go,” Simon insisted. Enough movement had returned to his hand that he could squeeze hers, and he did so.

“I’m fine,” she murmured, snuggling closer into him. She had barely moved from this position since finding him the night before.

“Need to food.” He frowned. That wasn’t right. “To eat.”

She shushed him softly. “I’m fine, sweetie. I don’t wanna leave ya.”

He turned his head so he could look at her, but his eyes landed on the bottle of medicine. It flashed green in the dull light.

“Kay…” he could barely get her full name out anymore. He hated that… he’d always loved the sound of her name on his lips. Almost as much as he loved the sound of his on hers.

“Yeah?” She smiled encouragingly, patiently.

He took a deep breathe. “Not…don’t….to…have to.” With a loud cry of frustration that shocked Kaylee, he lifted his head and pounded it back against the headboard.

“Simon, don’t, please, you’ll hurt yourself.”

“Not care! Hate!

She curled her arm around him protectively. “Shh, please, Simon.”

Simon wished he could tell the incredible woman beside him just how incredible she was. He wished he could apologise for every time he’d hurt her, for every second he’d kept her waiting. He wished he could wrap his arms around her and pull her close, but he didn’t have the strength to lift them anymore.

And he wished he understood why that was. Why yesterday he’d been completely paralysed and today he wasn’t. Why his mind was as bright as ever but his tongue was his own worst enemy.

Oh this is just getting better and better! I absolutely loved the conversation between Kaylee and Simon in the beginning. I am sooo glad he stopped being a boob and let the words come. She needed to hear them. I also adored Kaylee in this! I'm glad that she won't leave his side.

And of course, why Inara and Zoe won't listen to Simon when he hurls the medicine against the wall is a might puzzling - it isn't as if he's been insane up until now ... still, it's only going to get better - and more angsty! Squee!

Oh, that was just perfect! Medicating Simon just as he figured it out! Now how will he be able to tell them all what's wrong? You only have 1 chapter left to finish this? It doesn't seem like enough!

It would have been fun, since he couldn't talk right, if he could have written it all down for Kaylee to read - but then, he couldn't move well either! LOL!

>.< ooooh.... I wanna see what happens!

This has been a very good story. I look forward to reading more soon. I wonder why he did noy notice the medicine was green about... I don't know... thirty days ago? ;p

Best chapter yet. Only one thing can top it; Simon getting better and living. (Or is that two things?)

No, I think that counts as one.

Please don't kill Simon, he just made a move on Kaylee, he has a reason to live!

And the insidious plot just grew even more dark and twisted with that closing scene...bet Zoe and Inara are gonna feel like go se when the find out they were inadvertently poisoning Simon:(

Brilliant bit of work here, Chazzer! Definitely was all kinds of joyful with Simon's admission to Kaylee...though once again one or both them have to be at death's door for admission to be made;)
