Mal’s moving backward fast, but learning as he goes, then – Wash gets to run a job for a change. Of course, it doesn't go smooth.

I'm unable to post or edit old posts on LiveJournal this morning. Anyone else having this problem?
As far as Simon's movie - this is awful, but the movie that just won't leave my head is Caveman. Ringo Starr, woo-hoo! I think I saw that at the theater 6 or 7 times when I was in third grade. Yeah, maybe a little younger audience than what Simon's saying, but what can I do?
Can't comment more now, feeling sick today, and have work deadlines. :( Just wanted to get this posted! Except one thing - Katesfriend... River's not recovered, just secretive. But really, don't be afraid of where I'm taking it!

I love Wash. He's got such an entertaining way about him. And the proposal, with the conversation that followed, made me giggle.
The arguing who was in charge during the little mission was fun too. Wouldn't it be amazing if Jayne's plan actually works. . .

Ah, great job with Wash, not that I am surprised in the least. You have this talent for capturing the character of every one of the crew. And with gentle Wash, you can give us more of that funny that takes the edge off the tragic, like the matter-of-factness with which they are now dealing with Mal's little problem. The heart breaks for Zoe, and for Wash watching Zoe. But then you give us gems like "post-coital mattress" and spit-out-the-tea moments like "Time to meet the whores!" so we can keep reading without weeping. I loved Wash with River, really nice, and even his begrudging appreciate on Jayne's apparent thinking process.
And now, on to biting my nails. I've become so caught up in the characters, I'd almost forgotten there was action to come

I loved this chapter! I loved Wash talking to River in the cupboard, Mal shooting Badger in his dream, Wash interfering with Mal and Zoe's brooding time, Jayne calling Wash socially challenged....
I adore Wash....so I can tell you're writing him well when I don't want his chapter to end because I'm enjoying being in his head so much! :)
I was in for a little surprise at the end of the chapter......my name's Jessi. :eyes boggle: :)
Seriously though, lovely chapter. I feel so horrible for Mal, it's heartbreaking reading about him being so mentally out of it.
So - does Serenity get a back stories chapter?

This was excellent! My heart goes out to Zoe trying to cope with Mal's condition, it must be tearing her up inside to see him like this and it is painful to have such an assured authoritive figure acting more like a candidate for a straight jacket. I really hope they can get some help for him soon. And Wash. Oh, I adored how you wrote Wash and loved the conversation between him and River and the pantry! And Jayne taking the iniative didn't actually surprise me. He doesn't normally do that because of the pecking order on the ship, Mal or Zoe makes a decision and everybody else acts accordingly. With Wash, Jayne doesn't see him as being above him in the chain of command so when Wash's plan seems to peter out Jayne naturally steps into the breach. Their banter together was spot on, I am absolutely certain Wash was right to get out when they did. Can't wait for the next chapter and hope you are soon feeling much better. Ali D :~)

Top notch!
I've been waiting for this chapter ever since... um... Monday. (when it said Next Chapter: Wash)
Expected it to be good, but this was brilliant. A change of pace. Good interaction. Some little pieces.
And you can see him in the support role, making sure everything stays stuck together. (River, Jayne, Simon & Kaylee, Zoe) He has his bits with them all making sure they are all well grounded. Shows how the world subtly revolves around him.
And Jayne psuedo-insulting Wash was only beat by the offbeat nature of River in the pantry. "Bribe?" always curious!

I can't tell which characterization I loved the most - but I empathize with Zoe's increasing level of frustration mostly. When she and Inara meet - well, that will be an interesting day!
River is so perfect, as is Wash, and Jayne. Loved Jayne's practicality in business here. He loves his money like he loves his guns.
Mal in the background so much is interesting - like you have him disappearing into the fic likes he's disappearing in his own life. And more hints of Mal Zoe background to tease us. You are evil. But I'm catching a few more of your hints here and there.
Loved seeing all 8 characters having a part in this - almost like a real episode!
River is so perfect, as is Wash, and Jayne. Loved Jayne's practicality in business here. He loves his money like he loves his guns.

Some absolutely fabulous work here, mal4prez! Definitely was caught between busting a gut - quietly, mind you...can't be cackling maniacally where I am right now;D - and worrying a fingernail over Mal's continued slide back through his life. Gonna have him end up regressing to before he bought "Serenity?"
Once again, you've captured the crew perfectly here, mal4prez. The moments between Wash and Zoe - especially the scene where Wash asks Zoe to marry him - were spot-on and brilliant, and Jayne was in fine form as well. Definitely have to give you props for the Abbot and Costello-style shtick between Jayne and Wash, with the Abbot role being passed back and forth depending on what's going on:D
Have to say though...Zoe's comment about Inara? Definitely sent shivers down my spine, and it raises a point about we are not sure just how our favourite Amazon warrior woman feels about the Companion. Makes me wonder how a verbal battle royale would over Inara's habit of hurting Mal through all her various methods would go...and I get the feeling that once Inara is brought back into the fold, we are gonna see just how dangerous these two can be when Mal is at stake.

The proposal was sublime! Long live Zoe and Wash! I think you showed what they've created together, that Zoe and Mal couldn't, wouldn't and didn't.
Zoe's distrust of Inara is understandable...it threw me for a minute...she usually stays clear of Mal's personal life...but under the circumstances I can see it.
anyway, sorry this is so late, catching up!
