A/N. Okay guys, I have no idea where this came from. It just sort of happened. I like it, but what can you do. I'm biased like that. The goats are name after my flatmate's goats - they really do have personalities. Simmy is a BULLY. I know, I've met him - but she doesn't know about it, so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Cameron is named after my little cousin who once asked me how my brother, Russel, was (my brother is called Jonathan...)Anna and Jamie are both friends of mine with nice names (they aren't married, they've never even met) and Molly was stolen shamelssly from Harry Potter cos that's kind how I imagine Kaylee's mother being. Erm. Nothing else to say really. This was meant as a one shot but I wouldn't rule out a sequel, I guess. Don't think it really needs it. As always, comments are required, or your broweser will be redirected to...something unpleasant. Yeah. Enjoy.
The Most Important Job
Simon stood on Serenity’s ramp, staring out at the tiny village. It was like nothing he’d ever seen before, but for some reason, it was exactly what he’d been expecting. It was so Kaylee. The green fields, the happy chattering, the beating sun. He couldn’t imagine her growing up anywhere else.
His thoughts turned to the bubbly mechanic, and a smiled ghosted his face. She’d been so excited, a week ago, to receive a wave letting her know her brother’s wife had given birth to their second child. It seemed to Simon that Kaylee was always excited, but even he had been impressed by the way she had bounced about the ship as they drew closer to her home planet, purposely taking a job that took them close.
They had dropped her off two days ago and continued around the planet to drop of their latest cargo. Simon had been surprised at how much he’d missed her, he’d never known two days to last so long.
Still, they were here now, and the temptation of real food had persuaded Mal to give the crew two days leave. Kaylee would be here any moment to take them back to her family home, and Simon felt a twinge
Just so cute and fluffy all the way around ... it'd be nice to see a sequel set a few years after the BDM when Simon and Kaylee are welcoming a little girl into their family and he has the same discussion with their older son that he had with Cameron ...or Kaylee has it with him and Simon over hears ... or River does. Just a thought!
BEB
That was just adorable.
My only complaint is that we didn't know where in the timeline this took place. I'd guess the movie isn't taken into account here and it takes place after the last episode of the series?
I'd LOVE to see a sequel where Kaylee (after hearing Simon's story) tells her son about being his baby sister's protector. Simon overhearing and remembering relaying that story to Cameron as Kaylee tells their son. . .
Anything to get more S/K from you!
Anyway, there are so many lovely little moments in this piece. From Simon being amazed at his restraint, to Kaylee's goats, to River barging in to 'find' her brother. The end with Simon muttering about the key was perfect.
Sequel? Can do!
(I think... sides if I mess up it's not you like your gonna be able to yell at me)
Very shiny story.
Ha ha ha ha! Super Shiny, my friend, SUPER SHINY!
