A/N, okay, here it is: part three. First thing is, sceenes in this chapter have been juggled around more than I can say. If something jars, continuity wise, it's probably because I originaly wrote the scene in a different order. I think things work this way but feel free to berate me in your comments (which you WILL leave :))Erm, what else... oh yeah, this chapter refers to Jaynestown and Out of Gas. Ho hum. As always, comments are shiny. This chapter started off as the shortest, and now that I've added bits I feel it' a little too long for what actually happens. So, yeah. Enjoy. Tell me what sucks. Thank ye all xxxxxxx

Cup of Tea? - Part Three

“Aren’t you tired, mei mei?” Simon asked bracingly.

From her perch on the infirmary counter, River fixed her eyes on him and shook her head slowly.

Simon glanced at his watch. “Okay. What do you want to do?”

River said nothing, but shrugged. Simon sighed. She’d been doing so well for the past week. Now she was sullen and silent, and insisting on following him around wherever he went.

Trying again, Simon moved over to sit beside her. “Do you want something to read?”

There was no response.

“Do you want to draw?”

Nothing.

“You could visit Inara,” he suggested.

Still nothing.

“…or Wash? Do you want to go sit on the bridge?”

She shook her head.

Simon sighed again. Last resort.

“Should we go visit Kaylee?”

River reached for his wrist and turned it over to look at his watch. She smiled. “Yes. It’s time.”

Simon didn’t smile. He just took her hand and got to his feet. “Come on then?”

Kaylee, who was waiting in the galley, beamed when she saw Simon and River enter. She got to her feet as they approached, moving to pour another cup for River.

“Something wrong?” she asked, noticing their glum faces. Simon shook his head. River just blinked and held her hand out for her tea. She took a sip and smiled. “Thank you,” she said.

“You’re welcome sweetie,” Kaylee responded.

Simon watched as the girls chatted, a re

She got to see him drunk! Hee! That was one of the best lines. I liked the last part best, though. And adding Jayne to the mix to tell us a bit more, as seen through his eyes, about what was happening was well done.

Ahh, Simon. . . so scared of what's happening to him . . .

Nicely done! Will be waiting impatiently for more!

Oh, Simon...sometimes I could just kick you. That heart pounding? That's a GOOD thing, you dumbass.

Although I was really hoping Kaylee would tell the story about how she got her job...he thinks his heart's pounding now...

<MG runs to open a window, 'cause it got awful hot in here>

Much better. This is just awesome to read, though. Each of them trying so hard to make it look like they're not trying at all. It's a hoot.

Awesome addition ... I am continuously loving how you're building in all these scenes. What I really love too is the insight we're getting into both Simon and Kaylee that is completely believable. The drunk bit - hi-larious, but the gentleman bit in the infirmary just warmed my heart.

Can't wait for the next!

I did chuckle at Kaylee finally overbalancing in that chair, you could say that was when she really *fell* for Simon. Groan, I know, terrible but this was great. Ali D :~)

“The brightside is that I got to see you drunk.”
LMAO
The only propblem I have with this is that it's too short :)
Can't wait for the next one.

Oh...this was just freaking brilliant stuff, Chazzer! Definitely loved Kaylee's frantic plea for tea (ooh..it rhymed!) and Simon's careful anticipation of Kaylee taking a spill off her chair;D

Gotta say though...after how low Simon and Kaylee have been having their tea breaks, I can't fathom how Inara would be ignorant to the tradition. Certainly at least Kaylee would have been all kinds of eager to share with Inara?

Erm

Okay.

You got me.

I'm gonna say Inara and the rest of the crew know Simon and Kaylee sometimes meet, as they'll all have come across them at some point, but they don't know how big a deal it is. And considering that their meeting is STILL and unspoken thing, I think Kaylee would be keen to keep it a just-her-and-Simon thing.

Hmm. Maybe I'll come up with better reasoning when I'm awake. Must. Sleep. Thanks for shiny comments.
