A Jayne focused story? From me? Say it ain't so?!

Yeah, yeah. I've started the new year out right -or wrong, depending on your opinion. Hee!

Regardless, here's a new little piece for your enjoyment - or not.

----------------

Boo

Fic inspired by a comment Adam Baldwin gave during an interview. He calls his revolver Boo and his blade Binky.

River watched for a moment as Jayne carefully set his weapons on the table, much like the Captain did, only a bit more – lovingly. Her head tilted and she wondered at the care and concern he held for the weapons and the seemingly gruff exterior he portrayed to the crew. Inside his heart, she knew there was a person, not just a killer – very much like herself. But few people ever saw it. He was rough around the edges and he liked it that way.

“Peeka.”

Jayne jumped and whirled around in his seat, clutching his most favorite knife, and scowled fiercely as soon as he realized River had snuck up on him yet again. “Gorramit, moonbrain, didn’t I tell ya to stop doin’ do that? Gonna end up bein’ filleted on account a them soft footsteps.”

River smiled and Jayne refused to admit that it still unnerved him something fierce that she could so easily sneak up on him.

“Simon doesn’t like it either.”

“Well that’s because ya keep catchin’ ‘em with his pants down,” Jayne laughed, remembering the red-faced doctor trying to discipline his near eighteen year old sister for catching him in an embarrassing position with Kaylee. Jayne fought the jealous sneer that fought for dominance on his face. Boy didn’t really know how good he had it.

River wrinkled her nose as his thoughts rushed through her head. “Not my fault he can’t keep them up when he’s around Kaylee.”

Jayne opened his mouth to let loose a crude remark about everything being up when around the bubbly mechanic, but thought better of it when River’s eyes slowly shifted to the knife he still held in his hand.

“Binky.” River grinned playfully and reached out to touch the blade.

Poor Jayne, having his secrets blurted out in front of the others like that. Are we to assume that River brought the friendly ghost back? Ali D :~)
You can't take the sky from me

It's the little things that make me happy: "No peeka left in Boo"

snort-snort...

Nice one!

Laughed out loud in reading that Binky was Jayne's security blanket. I can see why he would name the knife that as it's probably more comfortable to put under your pillow than Vera (thus, more securing). And did I read...was there just a smidge of Jayne longing for Kaylee in here? Ooooh...

I LOVE THIS!

"Peeka!"

That's such a great River line ... and her interaction with Jayne just gets better and better.

Plus, Simon got some really great snarky lines in this - as he always does because you write him so well.

Your characterizations are wonderful.

It's a lovely take on who Jayne is/was/could be on the inside.

Why do I feel like there's more to this than ... this?

Oh, but I liked it too! Particularly the insight into Jayne!

I'm a little in shock, but otherwise, immensely enjoyed this piece!! My favorite line?>
“Laugh it up, Doc."
reminds me of the laugh it up fuzzball line from SW(which is one of my faves!!!)
I loved your Jayne River interaction, and the way Mal's reaction to just the presence of Inara! Great fic!

“Shut it, prissy pants,”
Wow, that's Jayne all over. Loved it.

"Jayne sneered with disgust at Simon’s inability to effectively cover a very large hickey Kaylee had left on his neck."

Uh oh, would that be a space hickey? A spickey? LOL.

Poor Jayne though. Maybe Mal will make another trip to the Heart of Gold? ;)

Sigh....everyone picks on 'im.....this was your usual greatness...and the naming was excellent, the reasons, very sound....space hickeys, Kay? LOL!
Moonbrain ever gonna pick on someone else, for a change?

LOL @ Jayne laying his weapons out "...much like the Captain did, only a bit more – lovingly." Lady, I loved it. My Jayne as seen thru River's eyes. Sigh. And her next comments might just mean she knows him as well as anybody does. And then he says, "...Gonna end up bein’ filleted on account a them soft footsteps.”" God, I loved this.

Leia, though he's the butt of everybody's joke yet AGAIN under your fingers on the keyboard, I have to say I do like your way with the words.

Imagine how Jayne would flower if you liked him with Kaylee the way I do! Ya get a 10, which is purty dang good for a Jaylee girl to give a Silee girl.
*hugs*

Oh...this was priceless, Leiasky! I am sitting here quivering in awe and jealousy:D

Definitely loved the River/Jayne banter you had going on...could even give a Rayne shipper ideas, if they squinted hard enough;D

And Simon was definitely in fine form! Joss, Sean and the other people involved in Simon's character would definitely be proud in how you've taken their hard work and added on to it with this fanfic;)

OMG Tammy, that was by far the funniest secret of Jayne's that River's ever blurted out... I tried with mine, but whenever she spouts off his sexual tendancies, he rarely gets too embarrassed. This was soooooo much better! (ps, I swear I'll start writing again soon!!!!!)
