The countdown's begun

It's whispering in her ear

You know you're almost out of time little girl.

Count the days? or count the minutes,

It's all the same

The damnation starts, with it's burning

No matter how you try to ignore it.

This time are you strong enough?

You know you are, focus

But, can you control it?

You know what to do.

But, can you do it?

Focus comes so clear when the mind is released

A self contained prison,

where it smells of horror.

A frightening void where something should be,

Always controlled, held back.

But it feels good to let go.

Empty it out a bit before it overflows.

Then the whispers shake the locks.

The countown spinning the combination.

No one knows what's coming.

Neither does she, except that time is running out.

Now so closer it's breathing on her

Except no chills run down her spine

Focus is getting clearer and clearer

The door is opening,

And this time there will be no closing it back up

This time all mistakes will be corrected.

Time has run out and the countdown has finished.

It's time.

And there's no more little girl to frighten.

They will all be shown

And "him",

He will get to see the best part.

He will get to see first hand exactly

What he always knew.

Just how special she really is.

Hmm...mighty powerful stuff here, CostumeCat. Definitely some Grade A prose, and the imagery is wonderful. But I am humble enough to admit the "him" reference is a bit...vague. Is it Simon? Or is it supposed to be referring to Matthias or the Operative?

;D

Thanks for all the praise, these things pop in my head, sometimes at inappropriate moments, and to be honest i don't really know where they come from. But you're right, the "him" comment in it is a bit vague, I'm not sure. My brain is thinking there was someone in charge and they in particular had a very special interest in River. Someone who was watching her every test and response, someone who was just plain watching her. I'm almost imagining a man who was planning on using her as his own personal "assistant", once she was under complete control. Someone who wanted to "own" her. Almost like a pet, and that was why there was so much put into getting her back, not just the fact that she was a genius or a mind reader or a trained "killer", not for everything they put into her, but that it was almost personal, a slap in the face that she disappeared, and he couldn't posess her.
Well that's my long drawn out response, if anyone else has any ideas you're welcome to shout them out!
