It's my party, and I'll blog if I want to ...
Monday, 01 November 2004 02:49:23

So last night, I had my first Big Damn Halloween Shindig. I went a little nuts decorating the house -- Reaver Territory in the bathroom, an alien in a jar thing, some shipping crates from TG Freight, and lots of posters (some that I printed out from the Blue Sun Room). I bought Chinese lanterns and hung them about. I had all the Chinese souvenirs my wife and I have ever gotten on display. I had red fabric hung over the lamp like Inara might. I had fake cobwebs, the staple of every Halloween party. I also went a little nuts on the food. I got egg rolls, fried wonton, and crab rangoon from my local Chinese restaurant (China Cooking). I went to the CAM Asian Market up the street (what a cool place!) and got green tea cakes (blech) and fortune cookies. They carried ready-made bao, but I was too chicken to try to steam it. I made my own take on Mudder's Milk (which tasted and felt like a mocha shake). I had tons of pop. I had chips, dips, chains, whips ... your basic high school orgy kinda thing. Okay, just chips and dips. But what made it a Shindig was the people. TenthCrewMember showed up as Wash, with his lovely wife Nicole as Inara and her brother Tim (who didn't dress up, but was declared "local color"). KarenKay99 came as Mama Cobb, and daughter Jessica was perfect as one of Nandi's "tasty" girls. I was Jayne, and my wife was Kaylee. And Nick and Mike showed up, also dressed as "local color." We chatted for a while, talking about all things Firefly and Joss, books, movies, TV, the Red Sox ... you name it. A fair amount of movie quotes were tossed out. About 9:00, we settled in with some green popcorn to watch "War Stories" and "Out of Gas." I found it interesting what different people picked up on and responded to in each episode. After the double feature, we got to play TCM's new Firefly card game, BWAH! -- based on BANG (I've never played BANG, but that's what they tell me). BWAH! is tons of fun, and if TCM can figure out a way to get it out to y'all, definitely download it or buy it or whatever. It is HI-larious and fun in all kinds of ways. After BWAH!, we chatted some more, and then everyone went their separate ways. I guess it was about 1:00 AM, and yet I was so jazzed up (possibly from copious amounts of highly caffeinated and sugared beverages, like the Mudder's Milk) that I stayed up until about 2:30 cleaning and taking down decorations. All I can say is, damn, that was fun. I can't wait to do it again! If everyone else had a tenth of the amount of fun I had, I consider the party a success. Next year, you all are invited!

New Chance for Love
Monday, 01 November 2004 22:37:15

I am smitten. A new girl has come into my life, and I am quite happy for it. I don't know her as well as I would normally like, but I am learning more and more about her, and each new thing only makes me like her more. I can feel something long dormant stirring, waking from its fear-induced slumbered hiding. There will be songs, lays, poems, ballads. Starting here. Destiny has whispered to Autumn. A warm smile parts her lips, her hair, flecked with the bright reds, oranges, and yellows of the leaves wild and untamed. Autumn smiles upon me at the request of Destiny. They both smile An opportunity is presented, simple, like a brown paper package. Carefully placed inside is the chance for new love. Prepared, set aside for the day when my heart was ready to love again.

Damn Good Drama
Tuesday, 02 November 2004 00:56:33

Good drama has to connect the audience to the characters. The first time I heard the phrase ‘emotional resonance’ it was from Joss Whedon. He was trying to describe the connection that a TV show must achieve to move the audience. They must feel what the characters are feeling, they must be able to relate and place themselves into that world. They must care. So having to watch Aeryn and Crichton, characters I had come to care for, die before my eyes hurt. Having to watch ‘Objects in Space’ optimistic though it may be, knowing there was no more Firefly hurt. Watching the final episode of Space: Above and Beyond, watching as Vansen and ‘Phouse crash and burn, Wang being blasted into outer space, McQueen being invalided home all hurt. Watching Lt. West and Hawkes trying to come to terms with their loss just hurt more. It isn’t just loss that hurts, it’s the trying to come to terms with that loss. As with Firefly, Space: Above and Beyond had creators, actors and a crew that believed in the material they were producing. They put their hearts and souls onto the screen and produced what for me is some of the best moments of TV never mind Sci-Fi. But what do I know? I am only a University student; I know nothing about what makes good drama. At least that seems to be what TV Network executives are seemingly trying to tell me. Being English and therefore living outside the USA both protects me and limits me. While at least I get to see all of Firefly and Space: Above and Beyond repeated regularly no-one cares about the viewing figures in the UK, not even on the first run. I have seen most of my favourite shows cancelled or end prematurely for no seemingly good reason; most of them have been Sci-Fi. Most of them have caught my imagination with their powerful emotional resonance and deft storytelling. All of them have had character and originality by the bucket-load. Most Browncoats will probably hate me for saying this, but despite Fox cancelling both Firefly and Space: Above and Beyond, without them these shows we love so much would never have even been created. We would not have had to suffer the cancellation of said shows, but we would never have had the wonderful stories we revel in today. We certainly would not be hoping for an official DVD release of Space: Above and Beyond and the motion picture ‘Serenity’. All we can do is come to terms with their passing and look forward, hoping that whatever forces may be at work in this ‘Verse favour our desire for more entertainment with ‘emotional resonance’. When such drama does come, we have to continue to support it, despite the prospect that we will continue to lose to ‘the masses’ and reality obsessed executives (this applies to more than TV, look at most modern video games). “It might’ve been the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.” Mal, Bushwhacked “Be bloody, bold and resolute…” from ‘Macbeth’

Been a while since my last mosey...
Tuesday, 02 November 2004 21:23:23

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but I've been extremely busy with many things. There was even a time when I was without a computer. It sucked. It sucked a lot. Well, I'm back, and I'm damned proud of the movie coming out. I, like a majority of people I'm sure, would love to see the series again after the movie. Mainstream U.S.A. here we come!

who needs TV?
Wednesday, 03 November 2004 03:39:16

Well, Las Vegas was fairly fun in a drinking bingey, gamble too much kind of way. Got a call from my mom while I was waiting to get picked up to go to the airport. She told me that my Grandmother wasn't expected to last out the day. So now my parents went down to see her, be there with her. I don't even know what I'm gonna do. I guess I'll go to work tomorrow since there is so much that I can't do right now. I'll wait to hear what happens, and see what my parents plan. Who needs TV when life has so much drama in it?

Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Niska.
Wednesday, 03 November 2004 15:40:09

*sigh* The day after. No new Alliance leader yet. Looks like it's going to go to the gorram goofball who got us in all this trouble in the first place! Pardon me while I roll my eyes. I've got the Cortex News Network on in the background. Purplebellies calling for a concession, the other guy not giving it yet. Good for 'im! Let them purples sit and sweat a little. Mathematical impossibilities or not, isn't democracy (at least when it works well) supposed to have every vote count? I mean, I don't care if you're in a backwater alley on Whitefall or in the capital of Londinium, every last vote should count! Perhaps if things don't go our way, I'll start selling "Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Niska" stickers at my CafePress storefront. Until next time, surly viewers.... -UO

Awaiting My Campaign Apology
Wednesday, 03 November 2004 19:37:40

This isn't what you think. I'm not here to rail against the idea that we're about to spend the next four years going from hell to blacker than hell. I'm not even here to discuss how the Arab world must be having some shiny big damn victory parties, since our boys will be staying over there and relieving that entire region of any responsibility whatsoever with regard to Iraq. I certainly have no intention or plans to move to Canada anytime soon either - everyone I'm related to and hang out with would never come visit me, so why bother? I could go off on how I now feel like I'm spending an inordinate amount of money obtaining a college degree that I probably won't be able to use by the time I get it. Actually that's not such a bad thing - my friend's son and I can go work together at the same coffee shop once he gets his BA. We'll have a lot of fun with that, so it's all good. Nope, I'm here about the campaign advertising that Minnesota was ruthlessly bombarded with during the two most monstrous campaigns it's ever been my misfortune to witness. The television ads were relentless and caused the mute button on my remote to all but scream in agony from overuse. My mailbox nearly toppled to the walkway in front of the house, over laden with four-color ads that probably cost the ever-loving moon. And I've never gotten so many phone calls from kind campaign volunteers in my life. President Clinton even called my cousin. We listened to it, but I don't remember what he said. Will our President follow up this bru-ha-ha with a television message thanking us for our patience? Will the other guy come on and follow it up? How long will we hear, "I'm So-And-So and I approved this message" on the radio before we finally drive off the nearest bridge in utter despair? Both campaigns visited us so many times that it got so that we went from saying "he's here AGAIN!?!" to "Oh, yeah, he's here again." Will either of them even remember where Minnesota is this time next year? In my career development class, we've been told that following an interview we're supposed to send a follow-up letter. I would like mine on White House stationary and DFL stationary with the following: Dear Swing-State Voter - Thank you for your patience during the recent campaign. Please accept my sincerest apology for the media bombardment that you were forced to endure. Above all things, we appreciate that despite our pervasive rudeness, you took the time to go out and vote. Again, Thank you and God Bless And if it comes with the signature(s) stamped instead of hand-signed, that's okay too. The campaigns are over, the election is finished. Now the real fight begins - day-to-day survival in a struggling economy and coping with the sight of yellow and American Flag motif ribbons multiplying by the day. What will the historians say? I'm Channain, and I approved this message.

Oh dear

I gotta say I'm a little depressed my guy didn't win. I'm trying to look at the bright side of things. It's only four more years, right? How bad could he possibly screw up?:)I also wrote that long ass firefly poem while I should have been doing homework. I am a master of procrastination. In fact, I should be writing an article review right now. Anyway, I'd better bust out the fuzzy socks and the ginseng tea because this is gonna be a looong night.

An Open Letter on the Election
Thursday, 04 November 2004 01:26:42

Democrats: Your guy didn't win. But it was close! You should be pleased that it was so close. And did you see the numbers? We all got out and voted in the highest voter turn out since I was born in '82, and, really, it was one of the highest voter turnouts in our nation's history! Things look kinda down right now, given the Republican majority in most of the fedeal levels of the government right now. But keep your chin up. It's not over. You've still got a voice. Keep in touch with your representatives and senators. Support bipartisan endeavors and cooperation. Republicans: Congratulations on an electoral and popular victory this time around. Of course we can all be thankful for the swiftness of the resolution of this election. You've got a majority in Congress as well. Now, it's up to you to be responsible with your majority. Work with the Democrats. They aren't your enemies. They just have a different point of view. Also, remember that all this can change in the space of two or another four years. Everyone else: Good job on getting out there and voting. Even in my little state of North Carolina, and my little county, there were a lot of Libertarians on the ballot! Even if you can't vote for your party, you voted for who you thought was best. And it's not over for you guys either. It's still important to be politically active. Kids what can't vote yet: Don't be afraid. There aren't going to be any drafts. That's a vile, vicious rumor spread about to scare you into supporting non-Bush. No one wants a draft. A draft is bad for re-election. It's immoral and unpopular. So relax and register the MOMENT you turn 18. Have your voice heard. Non-voters: What, were you guys asleep? All three of you? Every-ruttin'-body else voted, where were you?! I better not hear you complain. If you can't bother with putting your one voice out there, you've got no complaining rights. Slackers.

I'm a bit crazy, and that's OK
Thursday, 04 November 2004 06:33:57

It's about 1AM right now, and I feel like posting a blog, because my other blogs were getting lonely. I've been awake now for about 40 hours straight now, thanks to a rough bout of insomnia, and the helpfulness of a high-power computer system equipped with many many online games and a super-fast internet connection. (Fractional T3 with a T1 backup, makes it about 13MB/s) I've tried 'sleep-aids', I've tried... other things... nothing seems to work, and I have no option but to get back into Counter-Strike: Source and pwn a bunch of n00bz until I fall into unconsiousness. (For those who don't speek l337, pwn=kill n00bz=new players) I can't really see my hands typing... everything seems like the refresh rate is off by just so much... I feel my head turn, but I don't see what is to the left of me quite as quickly as I should. Have you ever gotten so tired that you aren't tired, but wired? Yet not wired like with caffiene, but wired and just as equally sluggish? I could totally roxor anyone at Counter-Strike right now, but if somebody asked me to count to a thousand, I'd say 1, 2, 3, then forget that they existed and play some Counter-Strike. Maybe some Jolt will help me. ... It's been about 30 minutes since I wrote "Maybe some Jolt will help me", and after consuming a bottle of Electric Blue Jolt, the only difference I notice is the fact that my hands are shaking more than they were an hour ago, and I'm having more trouble typing. I've had to use backspace at least 10 times for each sentence in this paragraph. Right there too. Even there. And on that one, I actually tapped the backspace three more times than I meant to and had to retype what I originally typed correctly, even though that time I typed it incorrectly, and had to retype it. I'm going to try to sleep. If that doesn't work, please send any donations to the "CB REALLY REALLY NEEDS SLEEP" foundation, located... well, I'm sure it's somewhere, but it's kinda like the counting thing. 1, 2, 3 ...counter-strikeismyuniverseandnothingshallpullmefromit. All proceeds will go to the ever-increasing supply of Ambien that I have. And some of it will go to pizza. Cause if the ambien doesn't work, I'm gonna need pizza. And Jolt. Cause if I'm not sleeping, I sure as heck want to be as awake as I can be. Here's to hoping that the next few hours are spent in blissful unconsiousness. Till then, I bid you adeu. CB P.S. really, if you want to give me money to buy ambien, pizza, and jolt, you can. P.P.S. I just put this here because it says P.P.

Still Crazy, Still OK
Thursday, 04 November 2004 12:34:11

7:08AM now. Coming up on 48 hours of wakefulness, and I don't even know if that's a word. My head is twitching to the side every now and then, and my eyes are stuck open, and I'm really cold. Even the stupid keyboard keys are freezing against my fingertips. St00pid keys. I watched a movie, Coyote Ugly, and then went to bed, hoping to fall into peaceful dreams of... well, you get the idea. No dice though, I just can't fall asleep. I realize it's only been 2 days, and I've gone for as long as 5 without sleep, but I'm starting to wig out. I'm hearing footsteps upstairs, which, though there are actually people upstairs, they wouldn't be walking around at this hour. My neck feels like it always needs to be cracked, and yet I can't quite wrench it far enough either way to make it crack. Grrr. Did I mention I'm cold? It feels like there are little drafts of cold air going right over my fingers and the back of my neck. I realize that this probably is the most irrelavent blog ever, describing how I've gone without sleep due to insomnia, but I can't seem to stop myself from writing on. Damned cold keys. I've got music in my head now, Tool. At least it's not something repeditive... oh wait... Being a Counter-Strike server admin is fun. I make the gravity 200, then wait until somebody complains about the gravity, then I wait until they jump, then I change the gravity to 99999. Serves them right. If I'm still awake later on, and cogniscent enough to write a blog, I will. To those of you who don't really want to know just what the human body and mind go through as sleeplessness progresses, just skip my blogs for the next few days, since that's mostly what they will consist of. There it goes again, my head twitching to the left. Signed, CB: Slightly more insane, but not as shaky, than I was a few hours ago. Cold though... damned keys.

So this is what running feels like....
Friday, 05 November 2004 02:06:16

After 10 years of bondage I am finally free. Released from the archaic power that held my spirit for so long. I miss this site. I miss the people, but I fell in love with an idea that does not exist. Virtually, things are easy; reality is a harsh realm which many can not handle. I think Con left a scar. So I ran. I felt betrayed. In anger I found solice, but soon I realized I was no different than those that snobbed me. So here i stand, once alone, now, however, in the warm embrace of love. And it's forever. I'll keep flying. So should you. Thanks

Just some things that need to be said.

WARNING: NON FIREFLY RELATED STUFF// ELECTION 2004 MUSINGS - that is all. Whether or not anyone reads this, I'm not concerned about. But per this whole election thing, I'm glad Bush won. More voters than ever before came out for a national election, and Bush won by over 3.5 Million votes. No more idiotic cries that Bush was 'selected' or him being the 'resident'. Looking across the board at how the GOP won seats in the House AND the Senate...it's a clear indication of what is the mood of the American voter. Now, to get right down to it. I'm not gloating. No need to, but there is a serious problem that I'm witness to ,and I don't know how it will be fixed. The problem? The extremist radicals on the far Left wing. Things have gone from bad to worse, and I've about had it. Yes, we have the freedom of dissent, but the Left chooses to misuse that freedom at the risk of us all. There is a culture of hatred and venom brewing from them that simply needs to be defused. What I speak of is the mindless, out of control lies, the baseless and fanatical claims of fraud and accusations of homophobia and racism coming from the Far left....that have no basis in reality. The only place I know of that exhibits such fanaticism is over in the Mid East. Over there, from the street corners to the highest Universities, folks are told to hate this, hate that and fed lies upon lies. Lies intended to divide people and instill irrational fear. Stories like how 5,000 Jews didnd't show up for work in the WTC on 9-11. Many people read these stories and , as Niska says... it becomes 'fact'. That is no longer a myth to them, or some urban legend, but has become 'solid' in how they percieve the world. It dictates the very thoughts in their brain and subsequently controls their very actions. This same style of mass delusion , fed by lies , wild accusations and blind , empty hatred is what I'm seeing, reading and hearing from the extreme Left wing. After the 2000 election, many from the noisy Left said that Al Gore didn't push hard enough for their 'core beleifs'. So, 2004 comes around, and look what we have. George Soros, Moveon.org, Al Frankin, Michael Moore and FH-911, extreme activist / entertainers saying the most horrific, over the top and hate filled lies put out in the arena of public discourse since the NAZIs of the 1930's. Sadly, the tactics are deviously the same. To gain power, say/do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G. The unsuspecting public will, for the most part, not have a clue of what to make of it. "Clearly.. " , they'll say, " ... they Left wouldn't make such a fuss if there wasn't something to it, right ? ". Wrong. This is how evil propaganda works, and the Left is doing it to perfection. Make a claim so outrageous, so completely mind boggling that others will think there is no WAY anyone would risk making such a charge , unless..... The next step is to fire off, in a rapid manner, a whole list of lies , distortions and cherry picked facts that are presented WAY out of context. Simplly overwhelm the public w/ so much info, they can't think for themselves. Play upon their emotions and scream about the INJUSTICE of it all!. The far Left Dems, the 'AirAmerica' crowd, are trying to whip up such mistrust in not only this Administrtion, but in the very framework of this Gov't, and how it works. " Bush couldn't have won by almost 4 million votes, so there HAD to be fraud" See how it works ? It's the exact same M.O. that is being used by the Islamo - Terrorist. " The Jews are so evil, they HAD to be the REAL ones behind 9-11, it's JUST what they'd do!" By playing upon a groups worst fears, then fanning the flames of those fears, you can create an absolutely baseless reality in which they view everything through the lens of suspiscion, doubt, fear and vitriol. (to be continued... )

The White Room & Serenity guests
Friday, 05 November 2004 08:20:26

I cried like a teenager when Sean announced Nathan Fillion as one of the surprise guests... Big Damn Convention! Nathan spoke French to me wiht this hot accent that would have make me melt if he hadn't been holding my hand all the way... All the Serenity/Firefly panels were definitely interesting and full of hapiness. Gah. Have to stop here or I'll go on and on.

Blogging 101
Friday, 05 November 2004 17:54:12

Someone, not sayin' who, mentioned I haven't been living up to my blogging expectations. To them I say "so what?" But here I am, blogging anyway. I'd love to say that my blogs will now be plentiful and running over with insightful observations and poignant witticism, but lets be honest here - I'll blog every few days/weeks/months when a random mood strikes. In the meantime, I find the little smilicons to be fabboo, so I simply must use a few. After a bad day of repetitive work :banghead:, I took a well deserved break :smokin: and discovered that in a few months, I'll be surrounded by equally devoted fanatical fans in a big dark room . The thought that I have to wait til next year for this auspicious day makes me sick :vomit:. I hate waiting. On a high note, a new convert has been added to our ranks, and I hope to see the new addition take an active role here (much more active than my stellar example). That's the most blogging I've done in months... it's almost like the first time... hurts a little. Til the mood strikes again, the little Mouse must go back into hiding.

TERRIFIC MOVIE
Sunday, 07 November 2004 02:44:52

If you haven't already, go see The Incredibles. Fantastic, fantastic movie. Seriously, I don't think Shrek 2 even gives competition to it for the Oscar. Easily best movie of the year and a great film all around!! And at 2+ hrs, well worth the ticket price. :):) Funny, exciting, action packed, and emotional:) This is what story telling is about folks (course, I know I'm preaching to the choir).

"Browncoat on Board" sticker at FanDone.com

Okay, after much delay and getting over my "it has to be perfect" syndrome I have updated the

Sci-fi list
Monday, 08 November 2004 19:24:26

I was so exited when I got an e-mail from Peter Sykes, the guy who did the 100 Greast Sci-fi shows list. Apparently, thanks to the overwhelming response of browncoats and their "rabid devotion" to Firefly, our beloved show is going to move up on the list. I think it was at 92. Pathetic! Anyway, I just wanted to share this with everyone who didn't get the e-mail, so be sure to keep an eye out for the new list. He also made a new list calculating the top 50 according to the e-mails and Firefly was #1. Farscape was #2. It's nice to see that sometimes angry (but politely worded) e-mails can make a difference. I have faith in the world again.

Of Conversions, Computers and Smooth Meshes
Tuesday, 09 November 2004 05:14:47

Here is a littlie blog of my life over the past 3 months or so. First while over at my good buddy Steve’s house I tried introducing him to Firefly, he was reluctant but he thought it was OK but he wasn’t that enthusiastic about it. His brother walks in while the “Strawberry Scene” from Serenity is playing and he’s hooked right then and there!! Maybe the BDM should start with Kaylee eating some strawberries. So latter on after watching all the DVDs with Steve's Brother we upgrade my computer somewhat. Got a New Processor and a new HD. But a few days after coming home my computer dies. So I convince Steve to come over with another buddy of mine that we both know from senor year of HS. So my computer is basically a lost cause so he hooks me up with a spare (and superior) system. After going out for Pizza as a thank you we decide to put in Jaynestown since Steve kept talking to my other buddy about Firefly on the way over. It turns out Steve is a bigger fan than he let on. So three conversions courtesy of my old crappy computer. Well this has nothing to do with Firefly but just last week I finally figured out how to make my Gmax made models nice and smooth via 3D Exploration and map them Via LithUnwrap. Now I can finally finish all these submarine and warship models I never got completed, and I’m only a few days away from releasing a USS Seawolf SSN 21, which was a collaborative effort with another 3D Modeler.

Rude People Suck
Tuesday, 09 November 2004 15:44:34

I think this says it all, but I feel the need to restate: RUDE PEOPLE SUCK I hope they're outnumbered by the good guys. That about covers it for now.

Serenity Movie Speculation -- potential spoilers!
Tuesday, 09 November 2004 20:03:17

Joss, Nathan, etc. are playing a very interesting game with us, methinks. Or my 'shippy tendancies have finally overwhelmed my good sense -- which I doubt, because of several comments made in different interviews. THIS just in from a new Nathan mini-interview in Sci Fi Wire:
The film will feature the series' creepy cannibalistic renegades, the Reavers, and also give Reynolds a love interest, Fillion said.
--

Well... Here I Am

Sorry I haven't been around the last few days, folks. I got laid off on Friday morning, and haven't had a lot of computer time available since then. For the full story (if you care to hear it), see my Live Journal entry at:

Studio
Wednesday, 10 November 2004 00:52:03

A couple of my friends and I are talking about opening a studio. I'm not really sure though. It sounds good but I have my reserves. It's different if I fail on my own but I don't want to drag people down with me if I can't make it in the art world. I don't really know much about selling my things either I just am starting out. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ken is in thrid place on Jeapordy!!!

Wednesday?
Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:21:59

I woke up this morning and realized that it's Wednesday and that it's November. I began to wonder when that happened. It just seems like I've been on autopilot and in a funk for so long that I just kind of woke up and look around for the first time. I watched Shrek 2, an imminently amusing film, the other day, and it was half over before it really penetrated my head that I was amused by it. I think I'm coming out of it. I wanted to appologize to anyone who read my previous few logs and thought I was a bummer. Tonight, I think I'll go home and do laundry and watch Invader Zim.

DONG MA? Well then vote for it!

Camping on the Rim
Friday, 12 November 2004 01:09:21

Ahhhh, well the start of November's come and gone. The Alliance has had their political victory, the rest of us Browncoats are out here gettin' the job done. Not me, however, at least not this weekend. Tomorrow, I pack up the gear and set Prosperity's sights south for a little R&R! It's been a while since I've been camping. I'm just ready to get out and away from the civvies for a little while and reeeelax! Now y'all keep the fort down while I'm gone. No chuckin' stones at each other and no droppin' big spoilers, neither. ;) I'll be back Sunday evenin', won't probably access the Cortex again till Monday mornin'. Be good and play nice, now. -UO

the White Room & Serenity guest, pt.2
Friday, 12 November 2004 11:02:41

Trying to find my brain back... I knew Morena and Summer were coming, but there were suprise guests we'd discover at the opening ceremony. When Sean, the organiser started to introduce the last guest I quickly knew it was Nathan ans shrieked out loud like I never thought I'd do. I wasn't the only one! Nathan said Sean had called him (they know each other a bit) and asked "what are you doing for Halloween". As Nathan was free, he decided to come :-) I had a low ticket number, thus could go to the Meet and Greet afterwards. Nathan was nice, friendly, charming and he spoke to me in French - and his accent made him hotter than he already was. Summer was so nice and so happy to see that so many people love Firefly and were happy to meet her. She was amazed at the distances we would travel to meet her. Morena had shorter hair than usually and wes very nice too but I think she doesn't open up as easily as Nathan and Summer.

"Yer Blues" - -Lennon & McCartney Yes I'm lonely wanna die Yes I'm lonely wanna die If I ain't dead already Ooh girl you know the reason why. In the morning wanna die In the evening wanna die If I ain't dead already Ooh girl you know the reason why. My mother was of the sky My father was of the earth But I am of the universe And you know what it's worth I'm lonely wanna die If I ain't dead already Ooh girl you know the reason why. The eagle picks my eye The worm he licks my bone I feel so suicidal Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones Lonely wanna die If I ain't dead already Ooh girl you know the reason why. Does anyone konw how I could possibly get a pic autographed by the crew? One of my bud's B-Days is coming up and his has made a point of hinting towards Firefly and Firefly related products. I share the enthusiasm and I was hoping that I could find a link here. Um...maybe just an e-mail or web site where I could contact the producers of actors might help...? Anyways, if I could get some help here, it would be greatly appriciated..

Monday bloody monday
Monday, 15 November 2004 16:17:53

So I went to the new Ikea store that they opened up here. It was insane, the experience was insane, the people were insane, I was insane. I can't think of a single logical part of the experience. Well I did get a rug and some chairs and some other stuff. But that doesn't make it logical, just expensive. I am hosting a Firefly get together at my house. Am I nuts? well probably, but it's amusing enough to not give up on the idea. Kind of like dating. I spent part of my weekend messing around with Transformer toys, that was fun.

I need you all to carry me!

"When you can't run, you crawl. And when you can't do that, well, you know the rest ..." My second design is up for polling today on the Big Damn Board. For those of you as don't know, the BDB is sponsoring a t-shirt design contest. I submitted two of my teaser posters, which you all made such kind comments about when I posted them in the blue sun room. Here's the sticky part, though. When I posted them to the contest, the images got all pixelated, corpsified, and gross. My first design went down in flames when it was polled. My second, being polled today, isn't fairing much better. To add to my challenges, I'm up against some really good designs. So I'm calling on you all, my fellow FFF.netters, to carry me. I know a lot of folk here don't hang out so much on the BDB (and vice versa), but if you have an account over there (or want to create one), and you haven't voted yet today, AND you actually like my design (it's the Jayne teaser) ... well, that's a lotta "if" coming off this plan, but I sure could use your support. Thanks, all! gojiro PS - Here's the links! BDB:

It's been a little while since I've visited this site. My computer has been down and I have a lot of homework. I'll be so glad when the semester is over. I'm going to party. I won't be going to Idaho, though. I know I sound like a giant baby, but I miss my family. Anyway, enough wallowing. I heard a guy on the radio talking about a street in Winchester, VA called Jubal Early Dr.. Isn't that funny? I wonder if Joss knows about that street. Maybe he was in Winchester right before he wrote the episode. Just a thought. This blog kind of sucks. sorry.

coffee and pecans
Tuesday, 16 November 2004 05:50:32

I am sitting at my computer, reading fff.net. To my right is a fresh cup of vanilla nut coffee and freshly shelled pecans. I'm consuming mass quantities. When those are gone, I will shell some more. Yummy! :D Pecans anyone?

I like firefly, but this has gone too far
Thursday, 18 November 2004 03:14:43

I have seen the show. Every bit of it. I enjoy all aspects. I was at Dragoncon. I heard every person singing the intro song. But, I come here, and I can’t understand why people seem to continuously hit on unrelated problems. I respect anyone who wants to have an opinion. But, if I hear the word "facist" one more time (misspelled on purpose, by the way) I might be more interested in finding a new way to explore my admiration for the show. Is G.W. Bush a moron? YES. Fine. He is certainly not the first moron to occupy that office. He won't be the last. If anyone wants to continue an issue about "no one voted him into office" please continue the voter fraud scenarios. You are only giving political capital to those who you wish to hurt. I refuse to discuss politics anymore. None of this is relevant to the show. I know this doesn’t apply to everyone. But, it’s like we have so little to discuss that we fall into the worst kind of discussions. I’m a FIREFLY fan. I'm going to watch these shows until I drop dead. Everything else should be sent to another site to discuss how Canada is going to be invaded.

11thhour is a goddess!

If Joss has seen her work - and I'm sure he has - I hope he has thanked her in some way, large or small. Now I really should get some work done...

Ah, the joy of a new blog. Greetings, Browncoats.Just joined the ranks around here. Looking forward to the explore. It's a big 'verse around here.

Exploderize!
Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:51:16

My brain is going explode inside my skull. This great and wonderful and amazing and awesome and beautiful and smart and funny and tragic girl is here in my life, and I'm all impatient and she's a little nervous about a serious relationship and I'm trying to wait, but it's nigh unto impossible because it's been years since I've felt this in love with someone. Urrah. 'Splode!

Did I mention...
Friday, 19 November 2004 17:24:19

That when I visit Firefly/Serenity sites, it makes me HAVE to watch at least one episode like RIGHT NOW! I'm such a product of commercialism. But I do enjoy my obsessions. :) Thanks for the comments on the previous rather boring blog entry. LOL. Good to feel wanted! Makes me want to write more. (See above re: obsessed easily.)

TGIF
Friday, 19 November 2004 21:34:20

I'm so glad its Friday. Okay, no one make fun of me (at least not in writing), but I'm taking Becca to go see the Spongebob movie tonight. It will be my way of unwinding before the intense study-fest that is Saturday. Wednesday, I was wearing my Serentiy t-shirt to class and discovered a fellow browncoat. She didn't even know there was a movie and now she's very exited. I'm exited to have someone to go with. Another girl in class was so curious as to what we were discussing, she asked to borrow my Firefly dvds. Soon she will be drawn into our web that is Firefly fanticism and be just as addicted as me. Mwwahhahah. Mine is an evil laugh!

It'll be nice to have a job again...
Saturday, 20 November 2004 18:47:49

Yeah, I've got a couple offers on the table, nothing I am overly ecstatic about, but solid jobs, nonetheless. It'll just be nice to be working again. Some might wonder if this means I'll stop contributing to the Firefly fandom. The answer is no. I will still design T-shirts and stuff, wallpapers, games, and run the Caption Tightpants contest. What it does mean, is I will have less time. So new designs, and new ideas may take longer to filter into our society, but rest assured, I will *still* contribute to what I believe is the best group of fans anywhere and of alltime. I am inspired by the fervor here, and I think Firefly is the best show ever (and hopefully Serenity will be the best movie ever!), so I would feel guilty if I stopped doing what little I can to make it more enjoyable for everyone. Thanks for the support to all those who kept telling me not to give up on the job hunting, especially Gojiro, who gave me the best perspective ever...When an employer says they've chosen to go in a different direction, I like to think that direction is straight to hell...heh, the "special hell"! (not an exact quote, but the way I think it now) Thanks, Dave, believe it or not, it made a difference in that it helped me keep my head up as I kept pecking away at the job market. Again, thanks to everyone who kept me in their thoughts, and even those of you who did not know me, kept me in good spirits, whether it be you've shopped in one of my stores, played Caption Tightpants, downloaded one of my wallpapers or my game, or simply chatted online or in a thread with me. It is kind of a nice feeling when something like fans of a TV show become more than just that. Simply put, I couldn't crawl any longer, but the Browncoats have carried me along, and now I will rise again! :) You all have been great, in one way or another, whether you've realized it or not. Y'all are my Big Damn Heroes! TCM

intense weekend...wow...
Sunday, 21 November 2004 23:04:56

i just had the most insane weekend...i just can't even describe how intense it was...so i'll just say what happened. this is really long, but it's actually kinda an interesting story, if you've got the time... ok, so i've really liked this guy dave that lives in my house (technically its a dorm, but it's a brownstone house and only 19 people live there) since pretty much the beginning of the school year. a couple weeks into the year it looked like we were gonna hook up, but then he told me how when he's in relationships he always screws them up and he never wants one again, stuff like that. he never specifically said anything about me, so after a while i kinda conviced myself he really only likes me as a friend. we've been good friends since then, although i was never quite sure if he wanted to be friends with me or not just cause he has a wierd personality lol where he likes to make fun of me, act like a jerk, whatever. but sometimes he's really really sweet, and sometimes we would end up just randomly cuddling or hugging or whatever...so a couple weeks ago i started dating this guy miguel. he's really hot, and at first he seemed really awesome, but we had a date friday night where we went out to eat and then watched a movie at my place, and he just seemed...boring. like, we got along well and stuff, it just wasn't as good as it had at first seemed. also, i kept thinking about dave. dave isn't as tall or big or "hot" as miguel, but there's just something about him that makes him absolutely adorable to me, and hot in his own davelike way:) so after the date i was feeling kinda crappy, like i didn't know if i should keep seeing miguel or not, and also because i was sure nothing was gonna happen with dave and that just made everything with miguel not seem as good. so i stayed up late that night watching monty python movies with dave and some people, and during this i told dave about how i was feeling about miguel (not the parts about dave, lol). he was basically like "are you making out with him? then be happy." so then when the movies were over it was just me and dave and my roommate rachel left. we were all kinda goofing around on the floor (cause it was like 4 am) and dave kinda started getting a little cuddly with me, and i think rachel could see it was different from usual so she kinda slipped out. so then dave asked if i wanted to come down to his room with him cause his roommate was leaving in a few minutes so i did. so we ended up talking about how we've both liked each other for a while and how he was just scared to do anything cause he didnt want to hurt me or ruin our friendship. but we decided we should just go for it, and we just spent the night together (not in a sex way) just being immensely happy. it was really intense, and we actually both said "i love you" (and we both meant it). it felt like we had been together for a really long time, and it just felt perfect and right. it was probably the happiest night of my life, it was just like surreal, like it was too perfect to really be happening. he told me he felt happier than he had felt since high school (he's a sophomore, i'm a freshman). we got up around 2 the next day (although we barely slept at all lol) and he went to see a friend that ws coming in from another college and then he went to battle of the bands. i fell asleep at like 9:30 so i didnt see him at all that night. so then he came to talk to me this morning. he told me that the last thing he wants to do is hurt me, but he has some major emotional problems (mood swings) that he's trying to get off medication for, and he thought he was better but he kinda freaked out yesterday and he realized that he can't be in a relationship right now. it's not about me, and he's not gonna start something with anyone else. i guess this had ruined his past relationships...apparently his exes all hate him, and doesn't want that to happen with us. he also told me i'm his best friend in boston, and if he lost that it would be so bad...so i'm not mad at him at all, but needless to say, well, i'm real

My dog is having pups right now!

Reality TV has touched my life
Monday, 22 November 2004 02:01:29

Anyway, at last nights performance of the play I'm doing, we had a celebraty. Thats right, the current Bachelor was there. Oh boy. Turns out he's one of the cast members uncle or something. It was realy funny how everybody was like "Wow! I can't wait to tell all my friends! My mom is gonna freak! OMG! The bachelor!" I wanted to egg his car. But I didn't have any eggs. And probably his nephew wouldn't like me too much after that.

Another day, a brand new blog entry...
Tuesday, 23 November 2004 02:26:24

Just milling about on the vast old internet...about to watch a Rilo Kiley performance (awesome, awesome band) on le computer here, then listen to their new CD More Adventurous. A pretty uneventful night. Maybe I'll retire to my room and watch Arrested Development and Firefly before heading to bed. Big release day at work tomorrow...Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Terminal both street. Well, take it easy all and have a shiny evening!

Indulgences, Ruminations and Other Causes of Heartburn
Tuesday, 23 November 2004 09:21:39

Another late night. Another small circle of illumination. My desk, some music, a computer and a mug of hot tea. I can start now. I've missed blogging for awhile and can only partially attribute that to my lack of an internet connection. (I've been logging in a couple of times a week at the local library.) My only excuse is that I suddenly found it hard to climb back on this particular horse. For some reason, despite the flood of goings on, I really didn't know what to say. So tonight I decided to try and jump-start things by indulging myself. I skipped dinner in order to meet with our sound engineer and casting director, so, after I got home, I decided that I would put on some good music, open a tin of smoked oysters, some cheese, a packet of crackers and a bottle of artichoke hearts. As indugences go, it's not too over the top nor is it too expensive. Could be worse. I could still be smoking... Unfortunately like most indulgences, this comes with a Damoclean kind of predicament...but for that, God made pepcid... The film preparations are moving forward. We finished casting on Saturday and I've spent the last couple of days getting everyone to sign up for the website in order access the Cast-only section with schedules of upcoming rehersals. I cannot express how fantastic the San Diego Film Commission has been to us. Kathy McCurdy introduced us to a thoroughly delightful lady named Mickey Harrison who has been instrumental in helping us with casting and a thousand other details that we might not have been aware of until it was too late. Interestingly, I've stumbled upon one of the most fascinating secrets about movie-making that I would never have guessed. The sheer volume of details that have to be taken care of before filming begins help to keep the Salvador Dali/"Alice-In-Wonderland" feeling in check for most of the day. It also helps to supress most "gosh-wow" reflexes that might ordinarily overwhelm a person and bring forward motion to a complete halt. (Layer that sarcasm on!) Still, there are moments when nothing can stop a small bubble of enthusiasm from rising to the surface like well... a bubble. This week I saw words that Rod and I wrote read by someone who gave our characters a unique voice. And, for the last several weeks, we've heard only good things about the script from everyone who reads it. These reasons alone are worth pushing this project through despite the financial costs. My life aside from the work on the film has been pretty much ok. Strangely, the longest drought in San Diego history ended the week after I finished moving into my new apartment. Since then there's been light flooding interspersed by warm weather followed by unseasonal cold, more warm weather and then snow in nearby communities. I'm ready to head across the boarder the moment I hear that a tidal wave swamps New York or a bunch of killer tornadoes take a stroll down Wilshire Blvd. Well, I shouldn't overdo a good thing. My mug is empty, the crackers and oysters are gone and the last of the artichoke hearts is not long for this world. Plus, it's past midnight and I promised myself I'd do shot lists for three more scenes tonight before I crawled into bed. Guess I'll end this while I'm ahead. By the way, I've always felt a little guilty about using this forum for my blog. I'm a huge fan of Firefly, but I really haven't been writing about it much and it seems unfair to take up this space so I'm moving the entire blog over to livejournal.com. I'm writing under the handle Rkangel for anyone who cares to track how the movie is doing. I'll probably hop back on here now and again to check out the news and write down Firefly thoughts as they happen, but keeping the same blog in two places would seem kind of wasteful. Anyway, I hope to see you guys at the opening of Serentiy. Moreover, I hope to see you guys at my movie. Fifteen people. We have fifteen people in our cast. Fifteen actors are going to help us tell our story. I know it ain't a big-budgeted movie, but the sheer idea of it is just too

Just About That Time
Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:31:27

Yes, turkey. Good ole L-Tryptophane. I am so ready to be on my way. Every year for the past four years, the wife and I've headed down to the small town of Cayucos near San Luis Obispo along California's central coast. I love this town! I would live there if I could. Admittedly, I don't get to see my family during Thanksgiving, but it's also the only time of year I get to see my wife's extended family. So it's all good. Now I just need to make sure I can skip out during my prep period tomorrow...get on the road a little early. I mean, what's Thanksgiving without having to teach English all day and then drive 200 miles afterward?

ARRRRRGH!
Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:59:29

Five months??!! FIVE MONTHS??!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!! Ok, I had to get that out of my system. I truly understand and will wait patiently, but that's like saying we're moving Christmas to May this year...*sigh* (This was gonna be my reward to myself for getting stuff done! Rats!)

Patience is part of serenity
Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:50:39

Okay, a five month delay. This would have to be done on the day I book my tickets to the convention but that's synchronicity for you. Actually, I'd prefer it if the cast/audience didn't know the result of the movie when we see them. Nowadays you know if a movie is a success about five hours after it opens so even if it had just been a week we'd know if it was a flop or sequeltastic. Just thinking about these things in general terms, how often do sci-fi series make a successful comeback? Star Trek: The Animated Series - flop Star Trek: The Motion Picture - hit Star Trek: The Next Generation - hit Farscape Miniseries - flop (ish) Doctor Who TVM - flop Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - hit (financially) Stargate SG1 - hit So that's really about a 50/50 success rate. Let's hope it's Firefly's turn to hit and hit well (although do note that while the Doctor Who TVM failed, a mere 9 years later a fresh series is about to hit our screens so don't give up on Firefly until at least 2014).

No sir, I don't like it. Not one gorram bit!
Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:41:52

Just found out the big damn sucky news. September? Who the hell are they trying to kid ? They trying to squeeze another DragonCon ticket out of me ? GARN! I'm so pissed, I can't type anymore. Grrrrr! :pissed: :censored: :pissed:

It's our time to SHINE
Wednesday, 24 November 2004 03:19:03

From: "311 days for 2 hours, I feel sick now." - Succatash to: "We're more than just a fandom. We're a true community. So let's make the right choice, and stick together, and make the most of these five months to make "Serenity" the best damn September movie ever." Techiechl The reactions to the film's delay have been varied and to say the least, passionate. I won't be heard to say it's not a bitter disappointment to see the count go from 150 to 311 within a matter of days. It most certainly is. If you look at it one way, it's the all mighty dollar jerking us around again. Look at it a different way, and you'll realize it's been Firefly tradition to get bumped all over the schedule, but it's still here. More to the point, we're still here. In Minneapolis, you couldn't go to any convention in town without seeing a FarScape poster, or having a FarScape postcard handed to you. The Twin City Scapers gave their miniseries more fan support than I've seen since the Firefly DVD campaign and they got a continuing chapter that was within the usual quality parameters of a science-fiction program that dared to be just a little bit different. Same goes for us. Put up posters, hand out postcards, mail them, or leave them for the teenagers to pick up in comic book stores. Don't send too many of them to the producers - they already know we're out here, and they know how crazy we are. It's time to increase our ranks out here, Brown Coats, and make the premiere of this long-awaited continuation the highest-grossing September opening in known history. Rage against the machine - but put some power behind it. Make your fandom shine.

Thanksgiving thoughts.
Thursday, 25 November 2004 01:54:03

Lately my thoughts have been bleak and grey and dreary, but y'know that doesn't make anything better. So tonight I thought I would post something positive. I want to say that I am thankful for lots of things. I'm thankful for my family and for my friends. I'm thankful for the loves I have known and lost, to let me know that there is love. I am thankful for this community that lets people of different social strata in different places of the world communicate and share and generally just support each other. I am thankful for the food for my belly and the roof for my head. I am thankful that I have the leisure to watch things such as firefly and to make the plans for things like my shindig next week. In short, when I think of what I do have, the things that depress or irk me pale in comparison to what I do have. Although that isn't to say I wouldn't be more thankful if I had tons of money and a girlfriend. Happy Thanksgiving all. I love ya.

ideas?

i'm a freak, let's just get that out of the way now. Okay, I would like to recreate some stills from the series. Not just Kaylee stuff...

Open letter to all Browncoats
Thursday, 25 November 2004 05:20:25

To my dear Browncoats: With the news of Serenity being delayed, we're all so disappointed, so, as I've said, I expected more sniping, more bitterness; I expected the in-fighting and snapping at one another that I've seen throughout all my other fandoms. Apparently... not so much. You're all awesome. You've made me cry a little in a good way, seeing how awesome everyone is here, how tenacious and devoted to our show/movie, our cast/crew, to the message of our show/movie... and to each other. I'm seeing the spirit of theme song embodied in so many posts here. I'm seeing Mal's refusal to lay down and die in the face of bitter disappointment. I can't help but think about that big red button to call everyone back, about Mal's rallying of the troops in Serenity Valley. I'm seeing everything I love about our show and our big damn heroes embodied in the fandom. We're going to hold this valley, browncoats, until our movie comes out and awes us all. Next summer and fall, we are going to share delighted grins at every scan of a magazine ad, every tv spot, every poster spotted, every trailer. There's going to be merchandise and every browncoat's wallet is going to be hurting a bit. I have no doubt that, if there's action figures -- and there better be gorram action figures *ahem* -- we're going to get posed photographs with captions running from the sublime to the obscene and it'll add to the general excitement. The novelisation will come out and there will be much debate over reading it or not, over needing a fix because it's been so long versus not wanting to be spoiled for the actual movie experience. I heard talk of a comic-book adaptation, too, so we'll have the art to debate/delight over, and which lines are included from the movie or not... And we're going to hit that last ten-day countdown so utterly giddy and when we see our little ship and our disreputable crew up on the big screen, we're going to know we've made it this far, we've done the impossible and it does make us, Joss, our BDHs -- all of us -- mighty. Then we're going to watch the money the movie makes and grin delightedly and smugly to one another as Fox and all the detractors are proven so very, very wrong. We're going to have the sheer glee of sequels being announced, and the countdown to an amazing dvd release. And we're just going to go from strength to strength. So we hold this valley, no matter what. We hold. (Adapted from a reply over here:

updating myself
Thursday, 25 November 2004 09:32:15

well I passed the stupid exams and got a bottle of champagne - which is being given to my aunt as an xmas prezzie cos i hate the foul stuff! date for the nisi (not mine) is 13th december, winter has rid us of of the bite-y little buggers but now my bed's full of catpawmud. going to scotland in jan - never been to scotland / on a plane on my own before (not including the jumping out of one, a real big plane, you know a jet) so should be fun - also it better snow and might go on a haunted house thing to accompany the hugely drunken binging of my friend's sister's hen night! fancy dress themes pending. oh and i'm reeling from buying the buffy box set - after much pondering i thought the best way to decide whether to spend 200 of your earth pounds was to flip a coin. Thanks purely to Rosencrantz I lost, but i bought it anyway. She's sat on my desk - pride of place next to Hsien-Ko, Dark Willow and the Blue eyes white dragon. I've named her Elizabeth.

Oh, to fan vid!
Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:20:59

Heya, I'm working on trying to get together some clips so that I can make some fan videos. But I'm having some trouble finding somewhere where I can download all the episodes as wmv files. I have a few ideas for fanvids, and some music lined up...if I get what I need, it'll be great!

Thankful for Firefly
Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:59:04

I have been involved in various fandoms since I was a teenager reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, watching Star Trek and Buck Rogers. I remember how comforting it felt on my first night away from home at college to turn on the TV and seen an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Not having cable or broadcast access these past years has limited my involvement with network sci-fi. The Stargate SG-1 box sets fed me well, and there was always anime, the fandom I have been a part of and will never leave. And then there came Firefly. And the local Browncoats I met through

The Strawberries Websites are down
Saturday, 27 November 2004 02:31:00

Just a head's up, the Firefly Fanfic Award Discussin Board as well as the list of finalists that were voted on is currently down. Our webmistress's domain provider had all of her sites on a bad sector of disk. Hopefully things will be fixed soon. Just wanted to let everyone know in case someone was looking for them. And I'm told by our banner designer that things are still in progress. Once the banners are all designed we'll let everyone know and set up another site if necessary at that point.

Very Rough Looking Strawberry Fanfiction Award Website
Saturday, 27 November 2004 04:08:28

Okay, after about an hour, managed to slap together an interim award website. No bulletin board function on this one--will have to go to the EZboards if you want to discuss. But there are links to all the winners...am slowly putting in the other nominees also. Sorry, but shoulders are getting tired so it's not done yet. Also, it is not a work of art. I am very very weak on html and our coding goddess monkeys are either sick or hurriedly preparing to entertain relatives. So please, no comments deriding my website design abilities. Here's the link:

Rebroadcasting Firefly episodes during Summer 2005
Saturday, 27 November 2004 04:38:40

With the recent announcement of Serenity's big screen debut being pushed back until Sept. 30th, I have given some thought as to how Firefly's marketing dept could best make use of the time leading up to the big day. A thought occurred to me that I would like to get down before I forget it entirely. Essentially, I think it would be best for everyone if the entire season of Firefly was shown, in proper order, on network television during the summer months. The plan would be to have an episode aired each week during a primetime slot and would last up until September. With 15 episodes to choose from, you could start at the begining of June and, even airing both parts to 'Serenity' back-to-back in one night, you would still have enough footage to take you to the begining of September. A special episode just for this occasion featuring Joss, Tim, and the Serenity crew could be made with them waxing all poetical about the mysteries of life and aired the week before the big damn movie is to occur. The benefits of this idea are pretty simple. You get the word spread about your movie by utilizing the time slots traditionally occupied by insipid summer re-runs and sub-par programming. As a result, assuming the word was adequately spread about it, Firefly would destroy any other show placed in the competing time slot. I am sure that one of the big three (ABC, NBC, CBS) would love to get a nice summer boost to their ratings which they could use to push whatever new programs they have come up with for the fall. Also, Firefly DVD sales might also benefit from a summer airing, since we all know how addictive the show is. There are several obstacles from making this happen, however. Firstly, I am not sure on this, but I believe that Fox still has the rights to airing Firefly on television. Thus, it would be impossible for my idea to occur without their blessing. Since we have already witnessed the manner in which Fox handled Firefly previously, it is safe to assume that they would be at best reluctant to help out in this situation. In addition, the Olympics are occurring in late summer, so episode scheduling may conflict with some of the more popular sporting events. Finally, it might be difficult to convince the networks to take a chance airing episodes of a show that has historically proven to be a 'flop'. (Calm down, we all love Firefly with every fiber of our being, but facts are facts). It might take some monetary diplomacy in order for them to seriously consider the proposition and that might ammount to a figure far beyond the Firefly marketer's price range. Anywho, I just wanted to put this thought into some sort of formal medium so as to ensure its livelihood. I think I will spread it around my local Firefly support group and see what sort of reaction it gets before I think about posting it elsewhere. -Oxy

I did this when I got the Firefly DVDs too.

Never tried this before. Where do these things go? Do people read them? If you do, how do you know?

I've calmed down , a bit. September is so far away....
Sunday, 28 November 2004 19:19:12

I looked at the large movie poster I got @ DragonCon. Sure, it says Firefly instead of Serenity, and I'm cool w/ that. But I also notice that is says * 2005 *. Not 'April' 2005, not 'Spring' 2005, but just plain ole *2005*. We always knew there might be some shuffling of the premier date, but still. Grrrrr. So, what do I do w/ the fliers, business cards, and other P.R. stuff I still have that have April 22 printed on them? Do I crudely mark through 'April' and write 'September over it ? Yeah, that looks classy. Do I hold on to them, for keeps sake ? Or just chuck them in the trash and some how get some more ? I have lots of questions about a list of other things too. Am I being whiney, inquisitive or should I just chill out and relax ? I want answers now, or I want them eventually! (sigh)The way it is is the way it is, I supppose.

Buffy Seasons 1-4 at CHEAP at Amazon!
Monday, 29 November 2004 17:41:59

I thought I'd put this in a blog, since I have a feeling it may get lost in a thread and this is a great deal. I just ordered Buffy seasons 1-4 at Amazon for the amazing price of $115.41, with free super saver shipping (say that three times fast!), and no tax. I live in NJ, and delivery estimate is between Dec. 13 and Dec. 15, more than enough time for Christmas. Keep in mind that sometimes this price changes back to the regular price of $182.51, (gah!) so if you add it to your cart and suddenly the price has changed, you'll know you missed the Window of Cheap Opportunity. I had this problem last week and bitched to Amazon about it. Anywho, if you work it out at that wonderfully cheap price, it comes up to $28.85 per set, which is almost half off! Whoo hoo, Rhymey got herself her birthday prezzie!

it happened again...
Monday, 29 November 2004 19:06:50

remember my last blog? well, dave and i got back together last night. it took a while...he was really scared that he would just screw it up and that our friendship would get ruined, and he says he's not in the "relationship place." but we both want this really bad, and eventually we decided to try it again, with assurences from me that i would help him do this and that we could make it work. then i had to go upstairs for a bit (remember, he lives in my dorm/house) cause his friend was coming over cause it's her birthday and he hadn't seen her in a week and he had a card for her...so he was gonna come get me when she had gone. so he came up like 40 or so minutes later and asked to talk to me in the common room...which i immediately knew was a bad thing. he told me that he was happy when we were together, but as soon as he started explaining it to his friend he knew it wouldn't work...basically the same reasons he gave before...(oh, he's still off his medication but he talked to his psychiatrist and i guess that stuff is fine now) so ya, i'm very sad right now...i just hope he realizes soon that he can do this, because...he has to.

When dreams turn to dust - story of my life thus far
Tuesday, 30 November 2004 10:04:49

Nov. 28th, 2004 05:27 am - Confronted by a dream... When something that you have wanted for a long time suddenly surprises you and seems like it's actually going to happen... something you've only dreamed of but never thought would come to pass; you cannot help but doubt it - against all your senses and feeling to the contrary. Impossible. Nothing good happens to me. It's an illusion, a mirage - it'll vanish as I approach. And so I hesitate to get my hopes up. Yet they rise of their own accord, balloons with strings just beyond my reach and ability to keep them down. Will they be crushed again, as so many times before they have been? Or is it possible that dreams and reality sometimes do exist on the same plane? When only time can reveal truth, I find myself impatient for an answer that I so so badly need, yet dread. And can my feeble hope withstand another drop? Does a cliff loom ahead, down the path of life, just obscured by the fog of uncertain futures? Or will I find my dream there waiting for me? Nov. 30th, 2004 02:33 am - Dreams turn to dust If only I'd known, that cliff was far closer than I could ever have predicted. And I didn't realize how far I had let myself go. I entrusted my happiness to fate, and walked blindly forth. And now I am left at the bottom of the cliff, a crumbled mess, bloody, and covered with dirt. Nothing but broken promises. Lost hope. Abandoned plans. The fog is so thick now, it makes it hard to breath. I cannot see. It's useless. What did it all mean? What happened to my dream? What was it all for? I'm sorry. I have failed. I have let myself be ruled by emotion. I have lost my control. And now I feel my very sanity is threatened. I feel so alone. So very alone. Can you hear me? Are you out there? Do you even care? I have been discarded. Perhaps it wasn't time, perhaps I should have waited. But the dream beckoned to me. Seduced me. Made me believe that all was right, that all would be right. Well here I am. So lonely. Is there anyone there? All that is left of that lovely dream is dust, that fills my lungs and chokes me. --- Ok, for those of you going 'huh?'... a more literal description of the events passed might be in order. Some of you may recall the girl I dated three times, remained friends with, and helped when she attempted suicide. (For those that don't :

Meet John Crichton
Tuesday, 30 November 2004 22:52:18

I have been feeling down for a while. I missed my cat that died last month, and otherwise I've been feeling pretty lonely and down. Last night I picked up a kitty. This kitty is young and dumb and full of energy and life, perfect. When I went to pick him up, his name was listed as John, I thought that was not a good name for a cat. I was trying to figure out a name, I was leaning towards Schroedinger, when I talked to my mom she thought I had named him John based on Farscape. I thought about it, and remembered that the shelter had chipped him in case he got lost, so I thought, "his name's John, he's got a chip, I'll call him Crichton."
