I have to apologise. There I am, telling all your Firefly writers to get out those pens and get writing, and I've not uploaded for a week! I can only say that I've got something of a writer's block over MASKS, and am trying to finish my Castle story DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS as well, but there will be more by the weekend, perhaps even two chapters! Don't hold it against me, will you? :bash:

To say that life has been busy would be an understatement. Between work, and my own business, planning for a family wedding, some terrible family fighting, depression, my husband's diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, and, believe it or not, even more than that, I've had a full plate the last couple of years. As a result, the time I get to spend here has suffered. How often I get to write has suffered. My muse has suffered. Basically, I became a lurkery version of my former self, and have been guilty for far too long of reading here, but not commenting, which, from a fic-writer's perspective is really inexcusable (note I said inexcusable and not unforgivable *wink wink nod nod*) And I've missed it. I've missed being part of the 'newer' crop of Mal/Inara writers, of the conversations that I should have been able to participate in and the friends I should have made. And most of all, I really miss writing and posting fic. My contributions have been so few and far between over the last two+ years, and that saddens me greatly. Because I LOVE this fandom. I LOVE writing Mal/Inara and I LOVE reading it. Yeah, I'm all about the love :oD Seriously though, I am. So, I've decided to try and actively make time to participate here more. To comment on the fic I read, and to work at finishing the serieses (is that a word? my multiple, unfinished series...es...) and new stuff too. That's it for now I guess. Just putting it out there so I can't slip back to lurkerdom so easily ;o)

Well, I discovered that the whole 'temporal echo' thing for fanfic works the other way. Having rather guiltily entered another fandom whilst waiting for all my files to be retrieved, some vaguely familiar characters turned up. This wasn't too bad when it was just a couple of them being cops. (And plus Zoe and Wash got that cute kid they so deserved.) Only now the cow in a jar has turned up, along with Mr Universe. *sigh* I dunno, maybe the Black is calling me back... Yeah, I have to confess to having been elsewhere this last little while. (I offer in my defence the rather lovely Simon Baker - I now know exactly what Captain Aiden 'Moonshine' Mercer looks like.) I got mugged by plot-bunnies whilst I was trying to recreate my missing stuff. But - so far in the series we have a serial killer who wears...blue gloves! A lot of by-play with strawberries! A man called Jane! Magistrate Higgins as the boss cop! Now all we need is a BDH cameo - though I think the awesomeness of the lovely Captain Tightpants alongside SB would possibly cause things to melt. I think my brain may have been the first casualty at the concept.

Ni hun qiu pests! (Incoming rant, brace yourselves) House has termites. Little bastards are getting into the basement and garage. It's kind of neat how they build these weird kind of mud tubes through the cracks in the cement, but scholarly interest aside, this kind of pisses me off. In preparation for winter, I've been having to do a lot of chores. I didn't mind going over to my grandma's to help her, she needs the help. But that done, here I was HOPING for a couple of weekends I might have free to write, seeing as how that's really the only good time I HAVE. Pretty soon all of the leaves start coming down and I have to spend a few weekends raking those up. No such goddamn luck, and I suspect this is going to set back my deadline for posting Eidolon even FURTHER, because NOW I have to go out and spend the time I was going to be writing moving crap away from the walls for the exterminators to get at them.

A co-worker, originally from China, said that he liked my Browncoat tee shirt. ("May have been the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.") The co-worker is not a Browncoat, but he saw the Chinese characters on the back. "What does it say?” I asked him, point blank. "Peacefulness, tranquility... something like that." "Serenity?" "Yes!" Oh, the yayness. Then another co-worker, who saw what was going on, came by. "Good to know. It could've said 'kick me.'" Another person asked, "What's a Browncoat?" I think I'm going to wear Whedonverse apparel to work more often.

So i have this question biting at the back of my brain pan... Why arent there any books based on Firefly or BDM like there are for Star Trek and Star Wars and other similar. Theres one i found but its out of print (or so thats what Barnes and Noble said) and it was just a slightly more fleshed out noveliztion of the movie. Does anyone know of any that are out there?

I finally gave in and joined Twitter. I kept getting on there to check what my favorite famous people were tweeting (is that the evolution of stalking now? oh, and btw it's Jewel, Nathan, etc.) so I joined. I'm @Jayperiod, look me up if you want. I'm sure my comments will be riveting (*sarcasm*)

...but according to the EPG it's not called Serenity, it's called "Spin off of tv series Firefly." Far more catchy title don't you think?

Well, now that I've posted my latest chapter, I feel like I can maybe admit to some stuff here without it sounding too much like whining, or like I'm making excuses to not write. I'm not exactly normal, as some of you who have talked to me over e-mail can attest. I'm struggling against some mental illnesses that make it hard for me to be functional day to day. Anxiety is the big, BIG one. Even simple tasks that most people wouldn't think twice about are formidable for me, like calling a stranger for business over the phone, or even driving somewhere in a car. There are times when my life becomes a complicated dance of avoidance and fretting, to be overcome only by sheer personal force of will. Most times, I fight this by keeping my life as settled and organized as possible. I do everything in manageable, incremental steps, plan everything out to the last detail, and I schedule ahead of time all chores, errands, recreation, business, and etc. This last week, at work, there were some major last minute changes in plan for something I'd been working on that left me scrambling for transportation. There was panic. And I think worrying about this trip, even in the weeks before, had bled some anxiety and anxiety derived depression into my attempts to write at night and on the weekends. This plus not sleeping well and getting headaches, plus other things constantly coming up on weekends needing attention (like the termite thing), made it difficult for me to concentrate when I did have time to write, and was making me having to put aside pre-scheduled writing time. This made me frustrated, and therefore gave me MORE stress, from something that I normally do to try to unwind. Anyway, having posted this chapter, I feel a lot more calm. I'm even going on a drive today, to practice, which also helps with driving related anxiety. I guess I just wanted to share that I'm feeling better. And perhaps, big picture, that doesn't really make much difference. But at least I have that. Writing on next chapter will commence either Monday or Tuesday, depending which day I'm not watching the new episode of Castle. :)

I just played the first bit of Halo ODST and it excited me to no end to find that two of the main voice actors where two of our favorite big damn heros... Adam Baldwin and Nathon Fillion just to be specific. Made me happy  oh and ignor the other blog from today my computer spazed on me.

I have finally gotten my writing mojo back but there's a problem. I have a pretty good Mal/Inara post BDM fic that's been on my hard drive for a while. I have fiddled with it some lately but there are some things bugging me about it. I really can't get the snarky UST between them to come out. In fact, they are down right civil to each other. And they actually talk to each other. I guess they are still in shock. Let me know if you guys want to read it but I still have to get it to some conclusion. AGHHHHH! The brilliant person that said writing is easy has never written anything. BTW I'm also branching out a little bit. I have written a True Blood fic that's on my LJ (

Just thought you all would like to know she was on the new ABC series on Thursdays at 8e/7c.

You know what's really frustrating? Life. Stupid 'get in the way of what you want' life! And breathe.... So i have 4 more episodes in my series that i'm am stoked about finally getting some words down for. You know when you know what you want to write about you just don't know how to make the characters do it. I've pretty much just sat down and let the first thing that comes to my mind play out on the computer screen. With any luck i'll have the ep finished tonight and edited by the weekend. And with ALOT of luck i'll be in such a good writing mood that the other three episodes will just spill out of me like literary vomit and i can have this damn plot line out of my head forever. Which will be fantastic because then i can continue on with my original series 'Eternal'. Yay optimistic anticipation! Leaving now. D

(and possibly spelling) Some of my favorite fanFics are here in the blue sun room but quite a few of my favorites have stopped being produced. Im sure for many reasons from lack of muse time some combination of the two or some other unknown factor. The question is: Can i continue a story for some one that is no longer writing as long as i give credit were credit is due or what exactly is the S.O.P. for this sorta thing. oh and Im looking for some beta readers and i need to know how i can go about that.

"You sure about this, Paulie?" The thirty something female sighed and shook her head at the childish question. Honestly, she had been flying as long as she had been able to walk. Captain knew that when she got hired and she had proven herself time and time again. However that never stopped the young twenty something captain from asking every time they enter into atmo. Reaching behind her, she grabbed the long strands of ebony hair and pulled hard. She smiled when a loud yelp filled the roar of the bridge. "You keep asking her all the time, Captain. Just relax and let her do the work." a male drawled from the co-pilot seat. Paulie looked over at him gratefully. The constant first mate was always calm and steady compared to the captain's flighty and impatient manner. She wondered why he wasn't the captain often, but the captain proved time and time again why she was the person for the job. "We'll land in ten minutes. Make sure Ally is strapped." Paulie ordered. She could hear curses and the words 'don't appreciate' and 'who's the captain.' "All right, since I'm useless here." the captain stated in a dramatic tone before stomping out of the bridge. There was a brief moment of silence before the male gave a chuckle. Paulie looked over at him in curiosity. He was a good looking man in his twenties with ash blond hair and hazel eyes that changed from gray blue to blue green depending on his mood. If he stood up now, his height would be over the six foot mark and his body was a nice muscular bulk of lean muscle and smooth skin. Paulie knew that there were many women who would kill for a chance with him, but he was gentleman. Which was odd considering what kind of business they all were in. "What's the joke?" "Captain is the funniest creature alive. Owner of a space ship and scared shitless over heights." This was new for Paulie. She had been only hired on this ship for about three months. Her eyes narrowed at unpleasant memories of finding work that could take her little Ally with her and after being turned down for two days straight, she had taken the offer from the Murosaki without question when the Captain agreed to the extra bit of crew. The fact that the crew celebrated with a huge feast of her hiring was a big clue that whoever piloted the ship before was a certified moron. She learned a week later that it was the Captain herself that did most of the work. "Why'd she buy a ship if she's afraid of heights? Captain don't look like the type to fix her problems much." The man chuckled again and shook his head. "Because no one expects her to pull it off." Paulie took a moment to look away from the screens and the view to stare at him. "Cor, that don't make sense." "Never said it would." ---------------------------------- Captain Ednali Huang cursed and cursed as each shudder flung her against the walls of her ship. She hated the part of landing and ascending out of a planet's atmosphere. It made her sick and it made her crew laugh at her weakness. Even little Ally, the cute little redhead could handle the landings. "It's unnatural for a nine year old girl to handle this better than a grown adult." she muttered to herself. "Girl! What in tarnation are you doing laying about like that?" Ednali wince at the hard older female tone that was currently scolding her. Looking up to glare at the fifty something year old female with deep wrinkles and currently standing straight despite the shudders. For a moment Ednali had to squash a brief pang of jealously before she straigten against the wall. "Paulie wants Ally to be strapped." "Well, unlike some people, Ally has a head of sense and currently strapped safely. Get your senseless self sat and don't go throwing up my good food that you ate in front of the child." With a slap on the top of the head, the older female pushed Ednali towards the living area. "What about you Delilah? You're old bones shouldn't be standing like that." the younger female sneered before

My new fanfic from the Early Years will be a three part story, one that will shape the way my OC and Mal and Zoe see one another. It is called the "Straw Butterfly" for two reasons. A combined of "Straw that broke the camel's back" and "Butterfly flaps its wings in South America and we have rain in New York" or whatever the case may be. I hope you enjoy!

Hallowe'en story almost ready. Titled as above. Who's ready to read?
Friday, 16 October 2009 03:02:15
Okay, I haven't blogged since July. I am a looooseeerrrr... Actually, I've been busy. Mostly with finding and then eventually starting a new job. I feel much better now. I think I may have learned more in the last 6 weeks than I did in the last two years. No joke. The muse has apparently taken up residence with someone else. That's fine, she's a terrible house guest. She demands your full and undivided attention, leaves dirty dishes everywhere, and snores loudly keeping you up all night with plot bunnies. She has driven me to drink (usually in the Browncoat Bar & Grill, occasionally in RL). Good. Let her stay there. I don't miss her. (sniffle) I'm enjoying Dollhouse, even moreso now that the plot and thinking points are getting chewier. Speaking of chewy.. I have to make two jedi costumes (don't ask, just don't) and in the course of my research I stumbled upon Wookiepedia. I laughed. Somehow it manages to make Browncoats look a little more sane than we probably deserve. I've also taken up watching Bones and Chuck. Old faces in new places, leading me to new actors whose performances I enjoy. Yay! I think Stargate Universe has energy. We'll see if it turns out to be potential or kinetic as time rolls on. I'm really thinking we're never going to get anything more of the BDS&M than a few fleeting references and in jokes, but I'm not giving up my box set! Should that acronym be slashed? (Why is it that neither of those above entendres was intentional and yet they happened regardless?) It's way past my bedtime...
Saturday, 17 October 2009 15:41:02
So if you are one of my readers (if you are not that's quite alright) here are the projects I still have that I am working on.... The Halloween story....it had two more pieces before it will be complete and yes, hopefully will be done by Halloween...though it could flow into another piece eventually Straw Butterfly: One more piece and it should be complete and then more Early year goodness will follow Angelle in Brown: No, I have not forgotten about Inara and Angelle. It's high time we freed them from Suga's grasp, though I am warning you, there is a really nice twist about to take place in that story and Inara won't be so chummy with Angelle for long. Plus keep your eyes peeled for another Christmas adventure from Kitty and Jayne, as well as just my normal little goodness when it comes to the pair. Anyway....just a little update and hope you all are having a killer weekend. Laters, Gators... me
Sunday, 18 October 2009 13:15:55
Oh dear, I haven't posted a blog in two years! But I'm still alive and kicking...
Sunday, 18 October 2009 21:08:45
I finally beat down the writers block that was strangling my Quest plot bunnies  Things just started to roll this morning. I also know roughly what will happen in the next chapter. Another situation where the second generation can be BDH's. On the personal front, I just got promoted at work so I'll be working 5 day weeks and now have a company truck. With the corresponding pay raise, more hours and not having to pay for gas to commute.. things are looking up. Later gators Bri

But I just saw the most recent episode of Castle, and... Doesn't Nathan Fillion just do the most ADORABLE uncertain hurt insecurity EVER?
Wednesday, 21 October 2009 12:44:42
Castle is another Hit!!. Well written characters and chemistry in beckettfuls..
Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:13:49
Might just go longer than I thought. It has developed into quite the little horror story. So if you can bear with me...I promise by the end...Kitty will be getting her party...LOL
Thursday, 22 October 2009 18:02:11
As everyone who reads me will know, my OC characters DO NOT belong to Joss' original series and truth be told, would probably never be written into the story. Cat is too unbelievable and Angelle...well, she's just herself. Still, I want everyone to know that my idea isn't to take away from anything Whedon has done, but rather play in a world where anything can happen. These stories were my first real fan fic writings, something to pass the time and if you can see by my heap of comments, I really don't care how many people read them (I do really, but it sounds better this way so my readers, you know i truly love you, but making a point). What I really want to say is let's not judge anyone based on what their opinion is and I mean this in both senses....the ones that like to keep to the story as is and those of us that like to add for the sake of something fun to do. It does in no way take from the original storyline and if there comes a day when our Serenity flies again...ALL of US will be rejoicing no matter what happens. There is no Alliance here...just a bunch of rowdy Browncoats tipping their hats to a damn good ship and her awesomely cool crew. Everyone shiny?!
Friday, 23 October 2009 02:32:26
Wode tianna. I can't seem to read a gorram convo, news post, fanfic or flylog around this place without seeing insults, flame wars and just general ass-hattery. When did this place become so shitty?!? Jesus...
Friday, 23 October 2009 03:31:44
I just talked to my friend, the one who's been having the medical problem with the herniated diaphragm, and the pneumonia with one functional lung, and he's been talking to Social Security about getting on disability so he can get the surgery he needs, and he's going to get help! He's going to live!

Yes, click on the link beloiw, scroll down to the Tue. Oct. 6th show, then either listen to it or download it to your PC. About halfway thru, past the 9:30am mark, you will the host, Dennis Baxter, reading from the script I did for that segment of "Understanding Islam." You'll catch the reference...
Monday, 26 October 2009 15:15:15
One more for the Halloween story and then I will finish Straw Butterfly. In the works, besides of course Angelle, is a 'U' day adventure, where Kitty gets kidnapped and Cat must make a deal with a certain English devil:wink: to find out where she is located. Anyway, here's to more fun and more surprises....

In the Roaring Twenties! I was doing research for a project and my jaw dropped when I saw this dress. It's a bit more tasteful(and 20th century), but still quite frilly. Foofaraws, indeed!
Monday, 26 October 2009 22:20:52
I know it's a few days away ( it's OCtober 31st) but I just felt like saying this What I am getting for my anniversary Much as I love shiny presents I already got the best gift I could ever have gotten for my anniversary. I got a husband who is kind, loving, and the best man I could ever have asked for. I got a man who throughout 9 long months of pregnancy has never once gotten irritated, impatient, or frustrated with the myriad of demands placed on him. I got a husband who has been to every one of my appointments even if we talk about ooky stuff he'd rather not know. I have a man who has gotten up every single day even when he could have slept in to make my breakfast and, when I was working, pack my lunch and kiss me good bye. I have a husband who has done laundry, cleaned, done dishes, cooked, and gone grocery shopping without being asked. I got a husband who has rubbed my back, held me when I cried, soothed me when I was frightened, held my hand and supported me every minute of every day. I have a husband who has loved and supported me no matter what has gone on and who, through every second including the last weeks when I am puffy, blotchy, tired, and the size of a minivan has made me feel beautiful. So earrings are nice, but I like my gift a whole lot more. One day of gifts is nice, but 365 days of feeling like the most cherished woman in the world is so so so much better I love you NVGHOSTRIDER...
Tuesday, 27 October 2009 02:26:22
Holy crap, I have been so out of it lately. I haven't posted anything in a while. Right now I'm watching Castle. In the 10/26/09 Halloween special Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) dresses up as a space cowboy. I think it looks very similar his Malcolm Reynolds costume for Firefly. If anyone can confirm whether or not that's true, that'd be great. I started eighth grade last month, but I'm taking for classes at a ninth grade level so it's been pretty hectic. Since the Twilight obsession of my last post I have moved on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Battlestar Galactica and several others. I guess I'm just on a SciFi (or I guess it would be SyFy now) kick. So, I would appriciate any recommendations about what to watch next. I don't get the SyFy channel so anything that's not also online is out of the question. However, I did keep up with the first season of Warehouse 13 and loved it. I've also been watching Dollhouse which I would love even if it sucked simply because it was created by Joss. For anyone who hasn't watched it already, you should! Now I have to finish watching Castle so ttyl.
Tuesday, 27 October 2009 04:28:22
SQUEE!!!! So my Qmx Inara's Shuttle entry has been posted on fireflyshipworks.com!!! So embarrassing but really shiny! Wish I had choreographed a better dance though...I was a bit pressed for time. AND I got to see a final render of the ship Redemption from the Browncoat: Redemption and WOW!!!! So phenomenal! I can't wait for y'all to see it!
Tuesday, 27 October 2009 04:35:21
Ah, I have all three now, the two from the series AND the one for the movies. Now if only I had some time to sit down and flip through them. Maybe in additional to Castle watching on hulu tomorrow, I'll spend an hour or three on them. Speaking of which, my copy of Heat Wave should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday... Maybe I can read it Sunday.
Wednesday, 28 October 2009 12:35:35
So, I've got some 4000 words of the next part of The Slower Path written, but it's not finished yet, and I've kinda stalled a bit again as I've come to the tough parts. I *could* post the first half of it, about 2600 words worth, as Part 1 of 2, now, or I wait until I wrangle the rest of it and post the whole thing once it's done... I prefer to post in contained parts (it gets messy otherwise, like it did with Choices) but I also hate making people wait when they've been asking for it (and when I look back and realize it was friggen January last time we posted a TSP update), and also because, you know, I'd like to post it... Hrmmm....
Wednesday, 28 October 2009 19:17:27
All these months, I've been sticking Firefly posters on my toolbox, mentioning it in conversation, shown folks the FFF website, but not pushing it. No, "It's the greatest thing since...., well, like ever... ya gotta watch it", just, "I like this thing-- It's available for free on Hulu." Finally one of my co-workers said, "Hey, I ran out of stuff to look at over the weekend, so I checked out a couple of episodes of this Firefly thing. It's good. I think I'm about 90 % hooked. I gotta watch another episode when I get home tonight. Maybe a couple..." He's hooked on "that girl, the smart, crazy one, with her brother the Doctor." He watched the Big Damn Pilot and The train Job, and he finds it hard to believe that he hasn't seen the best stuff yet. Les'see, what else did he get? Got a pretty accurate reading on Simon, River and the Tam family, just from the Pilot. Flipped out over the crew salvaging the "treasure", which turned out to be food bars. Liked Mal tossing Crow thru the engine. Does seem like he missed most of our favorite stuff-- no reaction to Jayne, Wash, Zoe, or The Shepard. Nothing on Badger or Patience. Not much reaction to Inara. Didn't have anything to say about Wash's dinos.Missed the point of Mal shooting Patience's horse, and Dobson, but got it quick when I mentioned them. But he's a lot more than 90 % hooked, if he's gotta watch more late at night, since we both work swing shift.
Thursday, 29 October 2009 21:12:02
Yeah, So I finally figured out how to delete fanfics, I deleted the double (and empty) post of My Life, and took down River's Son....I was never really happy with that one, Just kind of slapped it up to post something....so now I am going to revamp it and put up something I am happy with
Friday, 30 October 2009 01:11:52
I am alive... I think. I am SO busy-I started college. Yes, college. After a year long break from school, I enrolled for the 2009 fall semester. It's cool, I like it. History major, woo! But college certainly keeps me busy! So, that's the update. I know it seemed like I dropped out of existence for awhile, but.. I didn't. Yay.
Friday, 30 October 2009 14:11:06
Yes, I went dark, deep into the black. There I found a door. And I opened it... Back in 2006, right after I first saw Serenity, I was reading a local web board, and someone was asking about Firefly. And I made the following entry: "I liked Serenity very much. Firefly is warmer, though." Nothing earth-shattering, really, except... I hadn't seen Firefly yet! (I had only just ordered it). And I wasn't lying, either. Not because it happened to be true, but because I already KNEW it to be true, as sure as the turning of the worlds -- ante facto, as it were. In my soul I made a statement I knew, to the core of my being, to be absolutely truthful. It was as if I had already seen the series. It felt as if my (benevolent) spirit guides -- yes, I believe in that sort of thing -- were infusing me, with all their might, with the Firefly Love -- obviously realizing upfront what beneficial effect it would have on my soul. They were not wrong. This ante facto soul perception, if I may so call it, I've never experienced before, and only once thereafter: two weeks ago, when I stumbled on a "Serial Experiments Lain" fan site. I had never heard of this Anime before (yes, seems I'm always behind on the good stuff, lol). And yet I knew, instantly, without even reading anything further about it, that Lain would be my next obsession! And that, soul-wise, it would be on par with Firefly for me; and that I needed to acquire the disks, at all cost, without hesitation. Now! Needless to say -- but you like to hear me say it anyway -- Lain proved to be everything I thought it would be, and more! And it has, as per my premonition, indeed become my next obsession. There's no point in trying to explain Lain, though; it's too complex, really, to be reduced to two sentences or so. Lain, like Firefly, is something you must absorb with your soul, and live. Ain't no other way. So I ordered the shiny Lain DVD box. The image quality is what can be expected from a SD source: medium to low-end medium. And as I was lamenting this one minus, only yesterday, today I just got wave... after all this time since its initial release in 1998 (!) Lain will be released on Blu-Ray!! Come December 23 of this year of our fluffy Lord, I will own the Blu-Ray of Lain!! Can it be true!? Can I affect reality as I see fit? Seems too much of a coincidence! Don't worry. I'm still me. P.S. And yes, Rhyianan, my friend, Lain was made for you! :)
