i hate the holidays, for reasons that i hate to go into, lest i sound like i'm trolling for attention. but here's this, for those of you who like this time of year: [b]happy hannukah merry christmas happy new year[/b] this year has been better than the last, (which isn't hard), and the last half of the year has been especially good since i discovered [i]firefly[/i] and watched the BDM. (though not necessarily in that order.) i found out that tv didn't have to suck, but fox actually sucks more than i thought it did. and i realized how f:censored:ing hot adam baldwin is. (i'm a slow on the uptake sometimes.) it's been a busy couple of months for me. :biggrin: well, happy everything.

SOUNDHACK

I've been pretty busy, and my DVD from amazon still hasn't arrived, so today I went to Target and got a second copy (or is that first?) for $19.99. More expensive than at amazon or practically anywhere else, but hey I really wanted to see the movie again. Like others said, I really wished there were more special features, and commentaries from the cast as well. The outtakes were great, but I think the gag reel from Firefly was much better. Can't complain too much though, I'm sure there are funnier momeents even through an abbreviated season than for a movie. I recently bought the deluxe edition of Sin City (after buying the first release, yes I'm a DVD junkie---don't watch regular TV at all anymore, except Smallville) and I'm hoping Serenity DVD sales are strong enough to warrant a super-duper deluxe edition. I'll probably buy 2 again :) The movie is great to see again, but I think I still like Firefly better...

For Christmas I had gotten my brother and his wife the Firefly the series DVD. A few days before the holiday I took a copy of Serenity over to his house to watch and get a feel for if you would enjoy the verse. Between the kids and other distractions I left feeling that he didn’t get a chance to get a real appreciation of the BDM. Well I just received a phone call from me telling me he was about to watch the last episode. Over the last two and a half days he has watched the entire series! He told me he was hooked and couldn’t believe it was canceled. He asked about a sequel to the BDM and I told him our hopes rest on the DVD sales. With that he said he was going to go out and buy the Serenity DVD, (even though I left him a copy) in an effort to help the cause. It was really great to see him enjoy the Big Damn Heroes as much as I do!

Has anyone thought to advertise this series on MySpace?? I mean I searched the site and there were no pages devoted to firefly or serenity. Music groups and actors advertise themselves on that site so why not this? I mean it is a network of over 45 million people. I am sure we can get some more fans there, or even a lot of fans. So if there is anyone computer or design savy willing enough to take on the project, I think it would work. Just my suggestion. I already have gotten all my co-workers hooked.

Ohh man I just woke up, it's 4 in the afternoon here and I am dragging myself off to the doctor, I feel totally lowsy. And it's my anniversary, so that sucks That wasn't why I started this blog- I actually had a question- Do you think Mal would have been an Elvis fan? Because I do. If I see things I often think gee I have to show/tell a particular person (usually as real person ie someone I know) about that, and I was listening to an Elvis song and all of a sudden I thought "Gee Mal would love Elvis" What does everyone else think?

Our replacements are are the ground and today is the initial briefing for them. Or...as we like to call it, Death By Powerpoint. Last night I ran into a Sergeant I know who works over at the ASP. She calls me her MNSTC-I Ranger (MNSTC-I is the Advisor group...except for us assigned to the real job of Advisors (training and fighting with the Iraqis) it is mostly reserve and national guard soldiers doing administration work- so me...being Tabbed a couple of times...with Master-blaster,pathfinder, CIBs...etc...and a scroll on my right arm...I kind of stand out in that crowd). Anyway, she came up to me and threw her arms around me and hugged me tight. "I wish you were not going." Well, shit. Yes, I am nice to her and all that AND I've been away from home for a year, but having a girl do that is pretty cool for an old guy like me. Of course nothing is gonna happen because 1: I love my wife and that is that. 2: pretty much covered it in one. ten days and a wake up...

I love the use of Chinese in Firefly, its fantastic to see. I'm wanting to learn chinese :smile: I already know a couple of phrases but so far the one i'm best at is dong ma : understand? lol

Okay, it's official. I'm addicted to the awesome-yet-canceled show, 'Firefly'. Dang it!!! Do you know how I feel about this? How would you feel if you watched the trilogy Lord of the Rings 1 and 2, and found out that those in charge decided NOT to make the 3rd movie? And there were no books to tell you how it all ended? Better yet, what if you were watching the 23rd episode of 24 and THEY NEVER MADE EPISODE 24?!!! You guys gotta watch 'Firefly', then the movie 'Serenity' and then become so utterly addicted that you write emails to the world asking whomever to restart the show. It's a character-driven story, as focused as Batman Begins; as broad a universe as Star Wars, with the character depth of Lord of the Rings (the movies) and braveheart combined. I've seen a lot of movies, ranked in various order, but this show is on top. The feeling you get at the end of an episode isn't like you're watching a show, but rather the end of a really, really, good book. You close it and then want to open it again.

I think that FireFly has a real chance of coming back on the SciFi network. If enough fans get involved I think SciFi will love to put this amazing show on thier network. They already have the reruns why not give the fans new ones.If the show or movie needs an extra (or a main charicter) I would work for real cheap.

I don't know if you guys can tell, but I'm gettting increasingly more excited with every chapter I write...it's like I'm totally going along with the characters and building into the climax with them (no it's not an nc 17) but I'm loving it! That's just the ramblings of a first time fic writer. But do any of you other fic writers feel the same?

German episode titles are never just plain translations, there is a long tradition of giving them completely new (sometimes awfully wrong) names. What happens if you take the German Firefly episode names and translate them back to english? Format: english -> German title (translated back to english) 1. Serenity (not translated) 2. The Train Job -> dark deeds [i]Seems okay. As usual there was no real need for change at all.[/i] 3. Bushwacked -> far from civilization [i]This one of the bad examples of German episode titles. This is such an overused phrase and plain hollow. You could use this title vor every single episode of every sci-fi show ever made.[/i] 4. Shindig -> The Duell [i]This is something they often do - they just spoil something within the title. I understand that "Shindig" couldn't be translated literally, but calling it "The Duell" right from the start kills a lot of the fun[/i] 5. Safe -> In the nick of time [i]Speaking of spoilers... this is just ridiculous. They tell you the ending of the episode right there in the German episode title! What are these guys smoking?[/i] 6. Our Mr. Reynolds -> Mr. Reynolds [i]They cut out the "our" and with it the ironic undertone of the title. Again without a reason.[/i] 7. Jaynestown (not translated) [i]Hooray, they did something right by doing nothing at all :biggrin:[/i] 8. Out Of Gas -> The fight for survival [i]The German title is once again boring, overused, generic and spoiling. Why are they doing this? I have no idea.[/i] 9. Ariel -> False play [i]This is another fine example of this bad German tradition. Again - there was absolutely no reason to change the title at all. Especially not to this misleading semi-spoiler.[/i] 10. War Stories -> In the hands of shanyou [i]Typical German title: plain wrong in every aspect. It spoils, it is generic and it is misleading.[/i] 11. Trash -> Antique robbery [i]While the original title is funny, clever and equivocal, the German version is just a discription of the events to occur. It gives you the wrong impression right from the start.[/i] 12. The Message -> The Message [i]Yes, they really just translated it this time. I have no idea why. But I am happy with it, you bet your bottom dollar![/i] 13. Heart Of Gold -> Ladies of easy virtue [i]The original title gives the girls a positive image, while the German titel implies the exact opposite. Besides it's one-dimensional, boring and so on.[/i] 14. Objects in Space -> The Bounty hunter [i]What a wrong title! What a misleading spoiler! All the poetry of the original title completeley destroyed. The German "namegivers" (I don't know what they are really called) should have a talk with Joss Whedon someday about this mess.[/i] As you can see, the German titles are often really bad.
