YOUR CALL Secondhand Serenade Waiting for your call, I'm sick, call I'm angry call I'm desperate for your voice I'm listening to the song we used to sing In the car, do you remember Butterfly, Early Summer It's playing on repeat, Just like when we would meet I was born to tell you I love you and I am torn to do what I have to, to make you mine Stay with me tonight Stripped and pollished, I am new, I am fresh I am feeling so ambitious, you and me, flesh to flesh Because every breath that you will take while you are sitting next to me will bring life into my deepest hopes, What's your fantasy? I was born to tell you I love you and I am torn to do what I have to, to make you mine Stay with me tonight And I'm tired of being all alone, and this solitary moment makes me want to come back home ( I know everything you wanted isn't anything you have) I was born to tell you I love you and I am torn to do what I have to, to make you mine Stay with me tonight I was born to tell you I love you and I am torn to do what I have to, to make you mine Stay with me tonight (I know everything you wanted isn't anything you have)

Just tired of seeing my blog rant taking up space on my profile page.

This weekend I saw the movie Supernova. From the back, it sounded a lot like Serenifly. It said it was about a med ship that tried a dimensional jump to rescue some people from an abandoned mining station. The crew almost died in the process, but they found this one guy and an alien artifact. So, I think, "OK, this sounds like a pretty good movie." I watched it, and there were some similarities to Serenifly but not as many as I hoped. The best parts were when I was able to just see the ship. All in all, though, the movie wasn't incredibly bad. I'm just disappointed, that's all. :disappointed:

It's October in Washington State. The bright Autumn leaves are falling a little further from the trees every day, there's a chill in the air and rain's coming down. Never warm rolling thunder, but always cold rain. The guy I love is on the other side of the continent, which explains the heart full/arms empty line. Long distance relationships are the devil. And heavenly at the same time. Who knew it would be like this? Weeks that turn into months of wonderfully constant dedicated chat time, voice and cam punctuated by gaping voids of no-talk/no-type for various work and home-related reasons. It's enough to drive a browncoat lass insane. I am going steadily crazy alone. I am....utterly alone. It's what I am. Arms truly empty, though heart is supposed to be full. But tonight, my heart is empty too. And nobody 2300 miles away can do anything about either of those bodily conditions, gorramit. Mamas: Don't let your babies grow up to be long-distance lovers. They're never at home and they're always alone. Even with someone they love. (I beg the pardon of Willy Nelson for bastardizing his lyrics.)

Thanks for commenting about the monotone aspect; I’ll keep that in mind as I put together future chapters. That’s exactly the sort of thing that is really useful for me to know. Trying to figure out what’s interesting and what’s boring to my readers here! I’ll try to proofread more carefully; I’ll have to admit I do tend to look more for grammatical errors than spelling snafus. Writing faster.....not sure I can pull that off! I’m also tucking the comment about Wash away in my brain for review ;) I freely admit that Mal is the character I’ve studied most and have the deepest understanding of; I might well be guilty of underestimating Wash. Please, if you have any other issues or things that nag at you or bore you, let me know! It’s truly wonderful to hear what people like, but without also knowing what they dislike or where they think I’m starting to stray, I won’t get any better at this! Heck, I might even get worse, which has been my concern of late. Beginning of insanely long discussion which might interest only me: Where Khiloh is concerned, it’s a double-edged sword. I think that Mal in particular and I’m almost certain Wash as well are well-educated and intelligent enough to recognize a Stockholm syndrome/capture bonding sort of situation for what it was, and not get caught up in it. From my understanding, that is something that develops less as a result of any genuine kindness or caring on the part of the captor, and more as the victim reading small glimpses of humanity or the occasional absence of complete cruelty as a sign of benevolence, and the bonding that occurs is part self-delusion and part survival instinct. Ironically enough, in trying to shape Khiloh’s character, that’s one of the reasons I made the choice to have him as completely kind as he is. If he were a less “humanitarian” character, I don’t think I could portray a genuine friendship developing without either ignoring psychological realities or portraying a Stockholm type of situation developing……..which in my opinion would be completely out of character for Mal and Wash. If he is genuinely and cleanly a nice person, one smart enough to play the prison guard when he has to (remember, when he saw Mal in the cell after he was attacked, Khiloh didn’t throw some goody-two-shoes fit – he played it off coldly and casually enough to give Mal nightmares afterwards…..and something similar is going to happen in chapter 31), then perhaps he becomes someone that, despite his job, these guys can be friends with. In effect, I decided to duck one set of problems by making him one-dimensional in that way, but that gives me a problem when it comes to finding other ways to make him a human and believable character. I’ve given it a lot of thought recently, and I’ve decided that for the purposes of the story and the character, Khiloh needs to be very much the genuine good guy. I don’t write off the possibility that there could be essentially a grunt in the Alliance military who has more in common with the Browncoats than the outfit he signed on with to get a paying job. Many of us have jobs we hate and bosses we fear. I’ll leave the role of maybe likable/maybe scary character to Lee; it suits him. But……I still have the problem of how to make him more believably and relatably human, without destroying that. This is the first time that I’ve created an original character who plays such a big role in the story, and I just don’t know how to do it, quite frankly. Joss’s characters all have complexity and depth, whereas my character? Well, he’s a nice guy. So, any and all advice and suggestions would be welcomed with open arms! I just can’t think of “flaws” to give him that wouldn’t seem trite, and I don’t know how to bring out other aspects of his personality…..very much trying to figure that out. Thanks for all your help and advice!

This is an entry from Sep 21: It's been a few days recovery from DragonCon. We all have gone back to our mundane lives and left friends to go states away for another year. But luckily the fabulous pictures remain. I had a wonderful time. Especially the beginning. So full of promise. I have some 180 pictures to share. Speaking of, here's a picture of the finished dress for posterity.

So.... I had some estate agents (realtors?) round to value my place. Haven't even put it on the market yet, and one of them phones me, asks if they can bring someone round. So I say yes, and they do. And the bloke promptly offers me top whack not to put it on the open market. Gorram thing has appreciated near fifty percent in the four years I've had it. So I'm househunting seriously now. This will unfortunately mean a slight delay between chapters. But...bigger kitchen. I've decided I want one of those cookers with the five gas rings. Including that really big one that fires up like a blowtorch. Go Marietta Arcies! Also - Study. Library. Big screen for those BDH moments. But I will get CCM finished. And I've some Xmas present in mind for my readers...

Hey All Breaking news from my end. Despite being swamped with tons of assignments from all four classes, I have resumed writing on YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN. But don't expect anything to soon. What I'm planning on is saving the next chapter, Chapter 10, for last so that I can post the following chapters the next day instead one chapter intermittently. I mean, it's ben nearly six months since my last chapter, and it would be unfair to post another chapter, then have another six month lag. I notice that people tend to post more responses when your posts are continuous, and it's the stuff after the concert that I really want people to comment on. Not to toot my own horn, but I think it's some of the best stuff I've written. So please be patient. Come December, the rest of the story will be told. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait.

I had a pretty long day today for not having any classes. I did some studying this morning and then a very intensive workout, cleaned a bit and then had to run some errands around town. (Driving in Atlanta is possibly the most strenuous activity ever.) Anyways, I finish at my doctor's appointment and come home very sleepy. I still need to go to campus and watch some videos but I figured I'd take a quick nap first, so I pop in Serenity and curl up underneath my covers. Now normally I am very particular about locking the door, but I knew my roommate was going to be home soon and for whatever reason I didn't lock it behind me. So I'm asleep and all of a sudden my door opens and two guys walk in. "Where's Mitch?" they say. I sit up and say "Who are you?" They respond with the ever enlightening, "Where's Ryan?" (Ryan is my roommate). I say "I don't know. Who are you?" They peer into my room some more. "Are you friends with Ryan?" "Well I met him when I moved in..." "Where's Mitch?" "I'm sorry but I have no idea who Mitch is." "Mitch doesn't live here?" "No..." "This isn't Mitch's room? Why are you in here?" "I live here. I'm sorry, but WHO are you?" "I'm Ryan's friend from home. When will he be back?" like he hadn't just barged in on me sleeping... "I don't know..." "Hmmm..." they think, while still standing in my room. Then they close the door. I lay back down trying to process what just happened. THE DOOR OPENS AGAIN! "Don't tell Ryan we're here.' "Okay, sure, I won't say anything..." Then they close the door again. Now Ryan is home and his two friends are shouting and cavorting in our living room. I went out there to get a movie and received no apology, no introduction, just a "hey." Now I try to be a cool and patient roommate, but I think this is a little much to be asked to tolerate happily.
