I think today might be my last dayt working on the digital dehoard. I'll still need more time to move things around to their final spots when they're done and make sure everything is properly backed up, but I believe making choices has finally wound down.
Got the 15TB drive down to 3.89TB free. I'm sure I'll be able to get that over 4TB no problem. 5TB will probably be out of the question.
2.99TB free on the streaming drive.
Only .99TB free on the Work drive. But that's because I've been adding back all the things I want backed up there. I've still got a 2TB drive free for final backup decisions, but I want to put the stuff on there that I'm least likely to ever use again, and none of the stuff put on the Work Drive falls under that category. I've still got over a half-terrabyte of stuff I'll be removing from the work drive when I get confirmation that I can, so I'll still have quite a bit of room for additional backups and maintain 1 free TB.
I also added the additional 300+ songs to my mp3 player.
It'll be nice finally having that done.
I'm in for a job tomorrow. It's finally going to cool off with a high of 71 degrees, so I've got to mow the lawn. It's LONG. Plenty of free grass seed though.

Man.... Got that huge drive down to 4.36TB free. That's almost an extra 5TB external hard drive if I can get that up to about 4.54TB.
It's just too bad I can't back up the remaining stuff I'd like to back up on the same drive it's already sitting on. 
This really has been amazing for me. So much history either put into the form I envisioned, or being purged from my life all at once. And the best thing is that no matter what basket it gets thrown into, it's all going to be out of my head for the first time in about 2 and a half decades.
And all this bonus little stuff on the periphery like all of this suddenly usable tech I didn't have in a usable state that I'll be free to use or give away. Straightening out all my stuff in the most intelligent way possible so everything works for me instead of being a hassle. 3 large trash cans of crap going out already with more to come this summer after I wrap up the bathroom and the computer stuff.
And it's not even June yet.
I should be able to handle at least the 2 of the major 3 things I want to get done this year before summer's done. And if I do, that's going to alleviate a lot of my general house stress too. I'll finally be able to say that I've officially stopped any outside factors damaging my house, at least outside of some unspeakable tragedy.
Man... Wouldn't that be novel? Being able to go to work overnight while it's raining heavily and not worried that I'm going to come back home in the morning to a flooded basement?
I almost don't remember what it felt like not to worry about the rain.

4.38.... Man... It's slow going now. But I knew eventually it would be. Not only do I have several iterations of the project to sort through, but through my documentation, folder names, file dates and memory I've got to piece together which is the newest that was the most up-to-date that also works with the old tech.
I'd been putting stuff out to the side for about a decade now on and off that was meant to one day do this to all of it. I think I just may have pulled it off as far as the light documentation and folder names go. Just have to be super careful and not go deleting things without being sure since I'm doing stuff on a drive that doesn't benefit from a trash can and they're permanent deletions outside of using recovery software to fix a mistake.
I think I've still got quite a few hours to go, but I doubt very much I'll ever get to 4.54TB free. Something might still pop up nested in all those sub-folders, but I think the large files are all sorted through now. Just hundreds of thousands of little ones to go through. Yay.

That isn't like sorting thru photos! There's a whole logic structure to maintain!

I spent a couple of hours today raking up, chopping up, and binning up the detritus of my pulling down vines and cutting down dead stuff and pruning up. = 75 gal bin.
My next big effort will be to make professional tree trimming safer. But not for a whil.e
This is where I bow out for a while. Family commitments. Need to turn attention elsewhere.

So far, so good. Knock on wood.
Yeah... Nothing like photos, although there is plenty of images that are being processed right now. Except for in a rare instance where I'm confused about something, I don't ever even look at them as thumbnails since I have to do this in Detail mode.
I've got a good idea to look at easily with size and even extension differences. Not all things have gotten bigger, but I do still have it firmly in my mind which should be bigger and which should be smaller and by how much. One large part in particular could be figured out easily because there were tons of additions and subtractions and I still remember enough of them to easily tell an old folder from the one I want to keep. And these are all tasks I only need to do if the date isn't helpful for whatever reason. Using some folder compare software and even individual file compare software has made this possible. When I started this stuff back in the WinXP days, there weren't nearly as many useful tools as there are today.
I only really got messed up so far one time. It took me a while to figure out what happened, but there was a pretty large pool of data that I had probably spent quite a bit of time editing twice, about 3 or 4 years apart, not realizing that I'd already done it. And although I like how it was done both times, it was done slightly differently both times and I had to make a decision on what to cut. That double work was probably a week of my younger life evaporated with a delete press, but no use crying over it now.
The thing is, I'm not really sweating this at all. I already had a great thing on the old tech. This is just stuff that I was also making for that old tech as I was making it for the new tech. Somewhere along the way I've kind of fallen in love with the new stuff and although I'll be sad to see some concessions that needed to be made to make the transfer, I really kind of equally fell out of love with the old way of doing it.
To be honest, all this work I'm doing now might never again be used. It all depends on how difficult the network wants to make that old stuff. It was always a pain in the ass, and for various reasons making clones was worthless on the old tech so it was always built file by file. Do you have any idea how long it takes for a computer to send over 600,000 files to early 2000's tech via oldschool FTP? Waiting for that is agony. What really slows it down is just how much time it takes between every file. Once it's handling big files the speed isn't half bad. But when you've got so many files that are 1kb or so, and it takes about 4 to 6 seconds between closing off the connection and opening an new one for the new file or whatever the hell it's doing is awful.
I may just decide when I go through all of that stuff in my attic and find out what's even working anymore that it's not worth the trouble to even update it with the stuff that I had been putting aside with that intent.
It's possible I may put it all on a smaller drive or two and clone that, and then get in touch with some people I haven't talked to in a long time to see if they would still want it, but I'm moving on now.
This new way of getting stuff done is just 100 times better, despite a few minor annoyances.

Damn... I don't think I'll get to 4.54TB free. It's going to be really close though. I believe I'm at 4.40TB now. Doesn't matter. I like those little number games though to keep my mind off the tedium.
I'll just have to figure out what's getting backed up where after that. Probably a job for tomorrow though. I'd like to get to bed at a decent hour so I'm not mowing my lawn at the end of the day tomorrow. It's finally going to cool down a bit.

I know for damn sure there's more to be sorted, and I could spend the next 2 months doing it, but I ain't gonna.
Got that build done, and I've made somewhere between 6TB and 7TB of free space, and that's including all of the stuff that I've already backed up which now is somewhere in the range of 8TB.
The only drive out of the nearly 10 in the equation that is close to being full is the 5TB drive that I put the full build on. It all fits on one, but unfortunately it's only got 5% free and I would rather have it at 12%. That would give the 10% you always want to give, and allow for another 2% for configurations and data and other files that users would make in the background just by using it. It should never use more than 2% or anything close to it.
I will have to package up 7% of the build and back it up on my work drive until I get a 6TB drive to properly back up the full build one day, but I can still point to the 15TB drive for that if it's ever used. It likely never will be.
All other drives have well over 10% free. Work drive has 1.01TB free and still has another 500GB+ to be removed after offsite verification is complete. 15TB drive is at 4.63TB free and will have another 386GB removed after offsite verification is complete, so probably over a full 5TB free. Streaming drive at 2.99TB free.
Blank 2TB, 512GB SSD and 256GB SSD at my disposal for whatever now. The 2TB drive will be used for backups. I could also convert another 128GB SSD that's sitting inside a computer now as an extra drive, but I probably won't buy an enclosure for that when you can spend just a bit more for a cheaper brand thumbdrive of that size.
There's no reason for me to bother sorting or purging anything else. It will all be there for me to go through if I ever think of something or need something and isn't harming nobody if it never gets sorted.
Man... Once my final backups are done on this stuff, that's just going to be such a massive, massive weight off my back.
