Reuters saw at least three dead Russian soldiers lying in the street, including one whose fly-blown body lay by an abandoned Russian military vehicle. Artem, a member of a Ukrainian territorial defence unit, who gave no surname said the advancing Ukrainian troops had watched from a drone as Russians initially tried to evacuate their comrade, only to dump him where he lay and flee.
It was the first independent confirmation of Ukraine's advance in the area, roughly 90 km southwest of the city of Donetsk . . . No surprise that Russians leave Russians behind to die. They have been abandoning tens of millions of Russians to death since before the Great Patriotic War. Such a fine bunch of people. So loyal, trustworthy, and caring.

Or was it this one, Signym?
Social media video footage circulated on June 12 reportedly shows Russian barrier troops – specialized units that threaten to shoot their own retreating personnel or compel offensives – shooting Russian forces that abandoned their positions somewhere in Ukraine.[54] ISW is unable to confirm whether the footage is authentic at this time. The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense reported in November 2022 that Russian forces in Ukraine probably started deploying “barrier troops” and “blocking units” to Ukraine and that Russian generals likely want their subordinate commanders to shoot deserters, including possibly authorizing personnel kill their own deserting servicemen.[55]

It is completely predictable that Russians would be POOR compared to EU citizens since Russians can't trust other Russians to not kill them when convenient. To grow wealthy requires citizens to trust that fellow citizens won't murder them.
Unlike the US in all wars of the 20th and 21st centuries, Russia does NOT keep a list of every soldier who dies because Russia does NOT give a damn how many millions of its citizens die. Back in 1990, Russia had killed 62 million of its own citizens as proof Russia does NOT care who dies.

Putin discussed the progress of the Ukrainian counteroffensive and signaled that he believes Russia can outlast Western military support for Ukraine. Putin stated that Russian objectives have not fundamentally changed, reiterating boilerplate rhetoric and false narratives accusing Ukraine and NATO of initiating the war.[10] Putin added that the West can push Ukraine into negotiations with Russia by stopping the supplies of military aid to Ukraine.[11] Putin noted that Ukrainian forces launched a ”massive” counteroffensive on June 4 and noted that Ukrainian forces attacked in southwestern Donetsk and Zaporizhia oblasts, claiming they suffered significant losses. Putin claimed that Ukraine has lost 160 tanks and claimed that 30 percent of Ukraine’s casualties are killed in action, whereas Russian forces have lost only 54 tanks. Putin may be attempting to systematically amplify and misrepresent Ukrainian losses of Western military equipment to portray Ukraine’s counteroffensive as failed and discourage the West from continuing to support Ukraine. Former Russian officer and ardent ultranationalist Igor Girkin observed that Putin’s comments indicate that the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) continues to misinform him about the true situation on the battlefield.[12]
Putin indicated that he is unwilling to announce a second wave of mobilization or declare martial law, despite maintaining his maximalist objectives in Ukraine. Putin acknowledged that some Russian “public figures” are discussing the urgent need for mobilization but noted that there “is currently no need today” for mobilization. Putin boasted about Russian contract service recruitment efforts using rhetoric consistent with ISW’s previous assessments that Putin is disinterested in announcing another mobilization wave and is instead prioritizing volunteer recruitment.[13] Putin also downplayed milbloggers’ concern over the Kremlin’s decision to not declare full-scale martial law throughout Russia, stating that Russia needs to expand its law enforcement rather than declare martial law. ISW continues to assess that Putin is a risk-averse actor who is hesitant to upset Russian society by ordering another mobilization wave or establishing martial law throughout Russia, indicating that Putin has not yet decided to fully commit to fighting a total war. Putin’s statements likely aim to reassure his constituencies that he does not intend to expand the “special military operation” further.

Quote:Russians murdering ten million Russians is the only reason Russia is poor compared to the EU. Russia denies it all, denies that the best Russians emigrated, leaving murderers to run the country. Instead, Russia has an alternate explanation: the EU, UK, and US made Russia poor. By denying the truth of its murder rampages, including the ongoing one in Ukraine, Russia can feel good knowing that the dead won't crawl out of the grave and beseech living Russians to atone for murder.

Vladimir Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has spurred NATO members to plan in detail what has been unthinkable since the end of the Cold War — a direct conflict with Russia.
However, ahead of the bloc's summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, starting on July 11 when countering Russia will be top of the agenda, Sir Richard Shirreff, the former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, said NATO was not ready for a war with Moscow.
"It needs a real kick up the backside," he told Newsweek, as he took aim at dwindling military budgets across alliance members, although there are exceptions, such as Poland.
"There is a massive war going on in Eastern Europe. It's a land war and it's an air war, and so you need to invest in air and land, and that hasn't been done," Shirreff said. "Last year at its Madrid summit, (Alliance Secretary General) Jens Stoltenberg announced that NATO would ramp up its very high readiness forces to 300,000 — that simply hasn't happened."
The former British general said that the U.K. Army was an example of such cuts across the bloc being run down to a "ludicrous size" as he believed that the defense establishment had believed that China, not Russia, was the major long-term threat.
"Geography matters here and Russia is the wolf nearest the sledge," said Shirreff, the managing partner at the consultancy Strategia Worldwide. He believed there has been a "failure of deterrence" by the alliance, which missed an opportunity to build up capability after Putin seized Crimea in 2014.
"Am I confident that NATO will really be able to generate conventional forces ready for a conventional war with Russia? No, I'm not."

"Blocking units," sometimes called "barrier troops," are tasked with enforcing Russian military discipline, which includes preventing soldiers from running away from battle.
Asked about barrier troops in a previous story on the drone footage, Jason Jay Smart, a political adviser on post-Soviet and international politics, told Newsweek that "Russians shooting their own troops has a long tradition in Russian military history, and it has been commonplace throughout this war."
He added, "This incident, showing a total lack of concern or interest in preserving human life, is the epitome of how the Russian military thinks and behaves."

SEVIND: Russians murdering ten million Russians is the only reason Russia is poor compared to the EU.
Oh, I thought it was bc Russia kept threatening with nukes and was JUST LIKE NORTH KOREA. (Another stupid idea!) At least that's what you'd been yammering about for some 20+ posts.
You see? That's why I don't take anything you post seriously. All I have to do is wait a few posts and you'll undercut YOURSELF!

Quote:Signym, Russia and North Korea both build nukes so that nobody outside the country can make those countries behave decently. Russia and North Korea also killed their own people by the millions so that nobody inside those countries can make those countries behave decently. What is the result? No decent person outside those countries trusts those countries. That lack of trust is why both countries are poor. Russia is less poor because it does have cheap oil and natural gas to export, but North Korea does not have that good fortune.

Signym, compare Russia's and Canada's economy: https://countryeconomy.com/countries/compare/russia/canada
Russia does poorly because nobody decent trusts Russia. But Canada does well. You could do the same comparison between North Korea and South Korea. When was the last time you saw a product from North Korea in a store? Meanwhile, South Korean products cruise down the streets all over the world and can be found in kitchens and living rooms everywhere.
