I'm thinking the Democrats need a plan that sinks the entire GOP, not just Trump. Best way is to make Trump the anchor chain that wraps around the GOP and pulls the entire party to bottom where they can all drown together.

Right now Trump says one thing and the democrats say the report says otherwise. That falls right into Trump and the republicans hands. The dems need to stop telling the American people to read a report that is very technical, and almost 5 hundred pages long. Instead they need to show the movie.
They need to show the people the movie based on the report. That means calling witnesses and letting the people watch the Mueller report play out on TV. As of now, Trump only has to spin what is written in a report no one is reading; easy. It will be next to impossible for Trump and the republicans to spin what goes down that the people see with their own eyes.
At that point, even if the republicans don't convict in the senate the people will still know Trump is guilty. That the democrats were justified in attempting to bring him to justice. Then come the elections with all republicans coming off as aiding in his coverup. Of being guilty of obstruction themselves.
It is also important to start getting Trump to say he is not a criminal. This can be done by the dems calling all the investigations criminal investigations. Trump always having to say he is not a criminal would be a great visual on the nightly news.

Trump was pursuing a lucrative, no-risk business deal requiring Russian government approval during the campaign and lying about it, making him vulnerable to blackmail by Russia. Sharing an explosive secret that could destroy your campaign in order to potentially collect a massive payoff from a party that you know is doing illegal things to help you is the definition of being in cahoots.

Joe Biden kicked up a fuss the other day by saying something...un-smart. He suggested that Trump is a historical one-off and that, once we are rid of him and have fumigated the White House thoroughly, the normal routine of governing the country will resume and everybody can have drinks with each other at the end of the day. If there is one issue that desperately needs litigating in the Democratic Party's primary process it is this:
Resolved: this presidency is the logical outcome of 40 years of modern conservatism and its effect on the Republican Party. If it wasn't this guy, it would've been somebody else.
The party is the problem, because of what it's become—a vehicle for bigotry, religious fanaticism, rigged elections, retrograde social policies, renegade plutocracy, staggering wealth inequality, scientific ignorance, reflexive stupidity, violent populism, white supremacy, and a view of the American electorate that is all switch and no bait. (Did I miss anything?) Three times since 1981, the Republicans have produced a president who basically embodied all of these things, just to varying degrees. Ronald Reagan played fast and loose with the truth; is that business about trees causing air pollution really any nuttier than whatever it was that Trump tweeted at 5 a.m. this morning? George W. Bush launched a war on false pretenses and made this a nation that tortures people and is proud of it. Is that any better than what's going on at the border now? The question isn't how the Republicans produced this particular disaster of a president. The question is what took them so long.
The only possible way to change the Republican Party is to force it to answer for itself, over and over again. One of the biggest mistakes ever made in American politics was the Democratic Party's blunder in letting the Republican Party off the hook for the various catastrophes wrought by the administration of C-Plus Augustus. Iraq, Katrina, and the Economic Collapse should have been hung around Republican necks in the same way, and for the same reasons, that Democratic politicians had to talk for 20 years about the mannequin the Republicans made out of George McGovern, whom Bobby Kennedy once called the most decent man in the Senate.
If a Democrat is elected in 2020, that person should use all the powers of the office to demonstrate once and for all that the prion disease afflicting the Republicans now has reached terminal stage and that the GOP is a mad dog, snapping at phantoms in midair, and endangering the public health and welfare. Mitch McConnell should be made an object of anger and ridicule, and that work should come from the top.

Jeffrey Harris, deputy associate attorney general in the Reagan administration, pointed to the damning findings against Trump in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Harris said that, as a former federal lawman, “I didn’t think it was even a close prosecutorial call as to whether the president obstructed justice.”
The Mueller report “revealed a picture of the president and his presidency in a way which ought to concern anyone that cares about the honest workings of government,” he added. “If the rule of law stands for nothing, then we have anarchy. It’s as simple as that.”
Paul Rosenzweig, deputy assistant secretary of homeland security under President George W. Bush, called “obstruction of justice and perjury ... far more important than most normal crimes” because they “go to the absolute core of how the rule of law functions in this society.”
Donald Ayer, who served as George H.W. Bush’s deputy attorney general, said what particularly disturbed him was the silence of Republicans on Capitol Hill who know that “there is a damning case in the Mueller report of obstruction of justice by the president.”
The group plans to hand-deliver a copy of the video, as well as Robert Mueller’s report with key sections highlighted, to each Republican lawmaker on Monday."

Justin Amash’s town hall revealed the cure for right-wing lunacy: right-wing common sense

In a confrontation with Amash, Luke ended up stealing the show.
When Luke got her hands on the question mic, groans greeted her headgear. A big man stood and shouted. Nevertheless, she persisted.
“If you want to go along with the violating the public trust, how far does that go?” she asked Amash. Her syntax was faulty but her point was clear: What about accountability for “the Democrats, who have done the same thing”? Then came the telltale earworms that mark American minds lost to reason: “deep state,” Hillary Clinton’s “silent coup.”
Amash demonstrated the one way out of bewilderment: Ignore propaganda, inform yourself and speak up.
“Silent coup” is a favorite phrase of Mark Levin, a gonzo conspiracy theorist on Fox News. That wacko meme is further traceable to Russian propaganda from 2016 and a 1991 book, “Silent Coup,” that argued that President Nixon’s downfall was set up by Democrats trying to hide — you guessed it — a Democratic National Committee prostitution ring.
It was sorely tempting to tune out Luke while she waxed a tinfoil hat at the town hall. But she was worth listening to. In her halting way she eventually managed not just to get a point across, but to embody that point. In short, she was baffled. She was hoping right-wing folklore would get her out of her bafflement. But it only made her more baffled.
Luke put her confusion on display in the room, which took a measure of courage. For her to pick up political earworms right off the pop charts suggested a certain cognitive vulnerability.
This vulnerability is definitely not confined to town hall audience members. A prominent case is Atty. Gen. William Barr, who echoes Fox News and Russian botnets when he alludes to “spying” by the Obama administration and Uranium One, a farrago that makes as much sense as leprechaun stories.
As Robert S. Mueller III reminded us Wednesday, American democracy can be infected by scary ideas configured to rile us up. Some people fall so hard for crazy lies, according to former Trumpist troll David Weissman, they enlist in hostile foreign troll armies, repeating and spreading nutcase memes even when it costs them social ties, professional standing and their own sanity.
But others recover or resist. And at Amash’s town hall, Luke’s common sense, the best inoculation against propaganda, seemed to rally. In her telling, the deep state came down to “the bureaucrats.”
Suddenly, she was out of Fox News talking points and into her own lived experience.
“I don’t know if you’ve ever dealt with a bureaucrat, but it’s just mind-boggling that we have to deal with them,” she said. “I have a lot of experience.”
Bureaucrats. No kidding. Paperwork and red tape are the day-to-day manifestations of the frayed systems — in healthcare, banking, education, housing, the IRS — that bedevil us all. Think: rejected claims from insurance companies, brief enrollment windows, out-of-network charges, unintelligible “terms and conditions.” For any American without a coterie of personal lawyers and accountants, life routinely involves demoralizing roadblocks. Mind-boggling is right.
Amash didn’t address bureaucracy, which is too bad; it’s a kitchen-table issue. But he did model a brisk, energetic, focused way of sorting signal from noise with one’s full mental capacities. For an infuriated nation that often seems close to moral and intellectual disintegration, Amash’s commitment to keeping his mind unboggled is right on.
Luke had accused Amash of turning into a Democrat, in spite of the fact that his voting record is reactionary and straight-up Freedom Caucus. But, even if his votes reflect the worst of libertarianism, Amash at his town hall was an advertisement for thinking for yourself.
