Not that it mattered who stood where, he was being a distraction. And it worked for a minute until dumb teen got confused about what was going on and started a stare down.

You DO know what "interposed" means ... right?? It means to GET BETWEEN. If there was one person who WAS "in between", it was the kid in the motorcycle helmet who was tooling around on the Segway, right? HE was "interposing" himself, because he spent most of his time in the roughly 25' of free space IN BETWEEN the two groups. Can we at least agree on that?

IF Mr Phillips was really trying to "make peace", maybe he and his group could have set up a little circle-dance in-between. That would have provided a distraction and set up a physical barrier of people so that the two groups would have to pass thru the native group in order to interact.

But no. Obviously, Mr Phillips had no intention of getting, or staying, "in between". HIS TARGET WAS THE GROUP OF TEENS. He walked directly towards them. He walked right into their group, and right up to one particular teen, and stared him down. Now he's claiming "assault"?

In my book, one important fact on demonstrating "assault" is who approached who first. Mr Phillips approached the teens and walked right into their group. If anyone was behaving aggressively, it would be Mr Phillips. When you walk right up to someone and stand within a half-inch (literally) of touching them, glaring at them, you can't claim afterwards that you were "assaulted". This is alike a little kid yelling "MOM, HE TOUCHED ME"! when they were the instigator themselves.

Now, I don't know what the hell he was thinking. If I give him the benefit of the doubt, I would say that his attempt at "peacemaking" was an epic fail. If I don't give him the benefit of the doubt, I would say that he set up a deliberate provocation just to be videotaped.

As far as the boys "roaming around" and bothering "everyone" ... SO FAR, I HAVE SEEN NO EVIDENCE OF THAT. If you watch the video, as I have, you will see that they stayed in place. There was a time (before Mr Phillips) when they were obviously chanting, and - yes- a boy took off his shirt. But he wasn't running around offending/intimidating people with his naked torso, he was facing his group and leading them in some kind of chant for maybe 15 seconds. As far as I can tell, IT WAS NOT "BUILD THE WALL". It was like a terribly inappropriate and out-of-place pep rally.

YOU know pep rallies, don't you? (I avoided them whenever possible, but I recognize them when I see them.) It was NOT what one does at the Lincoln Memorial, but NOT RACIST. They weren't "running around" chasing people, they maintained their place AND the distance between the two groups. It was just really, really out-of-place, really, really inappropriate, rude to passers-by, and really, really stupid. But it was allowed by the chaperone, who should have known better.

These kids deserve to be punished for being rude and disrespectful to Mr Phillips, to the other people at the memorial, and to the situation. But expulsion? Face-punching? Death threats? And the chaperone? What was he thinking???? How does one respond to such a lapse of judgment? And did the school really send such a large group with only one chaperone? Another lapse of judgment? I'm willing to change my opinion if someone comes up with more info, but so far, what I saw was rudeness and disrespect and stupidity.

Now I'm outta here. YOU, GSTRING, and REAVERFAN can live in your own little outrage-filled alternate reality if you choose.
