So, going past all the back and forth - I read Trump's statements - all of them.
And I read many news accounts of what happened.
And you know what?
Trump was right. There was provocation on BOTH sides. There was instigation on BOTH sides. There was violence on BOTH sides. There's truth on BOTH sides. There's blame on BOTH sides.
Just because the particular things you were allowed to see made one group LOOK more menacing than the other doesn't mean you got the truth about what they DID.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is a myopic partisan who's blind to everything but their own pov reflected back to them.

What I find particularly distressing is how SOME people on this board are so willing to divide Americans into "them" and "us", and categorize and then castigate entire groups of people who IN THEIR MINDS believe/ stand for IN THEIR MINDS repugnant ideas.
"People" just don't divide into groups like that. It's not like there are "white fascists/ Trump supporters" and "antifa/ Hillary supporters" and nobody else.
MOST people's ideas are more granular. They might agree with one thing (economic nationalism or global warming) but not other things (white supremacy or international finance).
Why are we beating up on EACH OTHER, trying to pin people into certain groups where they really don't belong? The only thing that I think we can agree on that political violence is wrong, violating the Constitution is wrong, and there is NO "side" that's exempt from that.
So let's blame those individuals who engage in that behavior, whether they're "right" or "left".

I find it frightening.
I see that GROUPS are being vilified. What's the point of all this hate-mongering, if not to make one group support the suppression of another? To make us the dupes in someone else's plan to fracture our society, disable any vestige of democracy, and separate us from the power we have in numbers?

A little over 30 years ago, I was married to a narcissist. I did not come to know that at the time (they are particularly skilled at turning things around to their seeming advantage).
Fast forward to about a year ago. I met a woman online that had all the earmarks of a long lasting relationship, but no, I eventually found out that she was a narcissist. On both occasions it took me some time to recover because they really screw with your mind, unless of course you know what to look for. They twist things, even illogical things, and make it seem as though it's your fault. A real head trip if ever I have experienced one.
Trump is such a narcissist. Now I'm not saying that our resident comrades are narcissists, but I am proceeding with caution and laser-like attention. Just in case. I'm going to keep my wits about me. Control and manipulation is the name of the game, and if you don't agree with them....well, you know the deal.
My ex wife, and then my most recent girlfriend, did some con job on me. But it took me some time to catch on (partially because I'm too trusting) but catch on I did.
I'm no expert, but I've picked up on a few things. But I can honestly say that Trump is a text book example of a Class A-1 narcissist. NO question. Backhanded compliments and all.

I'm curious, I've never met a narcissist. (At least, I don't think so.) I've heard that that they're very dangerous, and (as my daughter notes quite often) I'm really very nosy! I'll actually turn around and drive up to a cluster of police cars and ask "Hey officer! What's going on?" But, aside from my nosiness about police action ...
What cluster of events/ reactions led you to realize that you were dealing with a narcissist? I'm just really, really, really curious.
