Cynthia looks like she knows how to scale down to lovely vignettes:
but also scale up to harmonious landscapes. But she ties those lanscapes together into a whole through hardscape and mulch
through plant repetition
and through color repetition
Also, most of her plants are ankle to thigh high, except the larger screening bushes as a backdrop, and the spreading trees that provide shade and human /humane scale.

Buried in Cynthia's native garden blog is a link to California Native Landscape Design, http://www.californianativelandscapedesign.com/Projects.html and in THAT blog he posted some (?) of his portfolio. I was especially intrigued by his "woodland" garden, and also by his project in San Clemente. It has a very Palos Verdes feel to it.
You have to expand it WAAAAAY out (click to magnify and then "Ctrl +" repeated as many times as necessary) and if you have a good screen and good eyesight you can make out his plant list. According to his list, he has 13 different kinds of plants there, most of them are repeated at least twice
6 blue-eyes grass
5 erigeron glauca
3 galvezia speciosa
2 artemesia nesautica
2 aristida purpurea
2 leymus 'canyon prince' wild rye
etc
Still, that's a lot of different kinds of plants for such a small area! I think one thing that "ties" it together is that it's a very defined space: fence in the background, sidewalk on one side, hedge on the other, curb at the street. Still, for such a small, flat, originally uninteresting space he managed to create a whole environment, don't you think?
Also I was gratified to see that his newly=planted areas looked as shitty as mine, so there's hope for my front yard yet!

Oh, we must have x-posted.
Cynthia is also an excellent photographer. One way to make your garden look great is to always (1) photograph lit objects against a dark background (2) using a polarized filter to remove glare) and (3) frame your views attractively. Not to be nitpicky, but I noticed that she always photographs her annuals in spring... well, that's when EVERYTHING looks lovely! The clarkia and Chinese houses and lupines and poppies are all a-bloom. I wonder what it looks like in the summer ... MY "annual patch" looks like a weedpatch/sandpit!
Yes, I noticed the different scales of her plantings. What's consistent, I think, is that the small-scale are always close to a walkway where they're close enough to be seen, and the larger scale are always background.
One thing that drive me nucking futz are the gardens where people plant the big stuff right next to the sidewalk ... like we can't see them ... and they leave the middle bare, or put little stuff in it where it's IMPOSSIBLE to see. I've seen that over and over in some supposedly "well designed" gardens and I have to ask ... WHY???
I was trying to ID the pink flowers in one of her pix... there's the CA was myrtle in the background, salvia clevelandii to the left and verbena lilacina to the right. The VERY pale leaves are "mattole" CA fuchsia (epilobium) and the pink flowers on "wands" are ...???? Farewell-to-spring (clarkia)?

Yes, the first picture looks like clarkia - and I can definitively say the next picture is Mexican evening primrose. There are many, many species of native evening primrose Oenothera, even swamp growing evening primroses, Missouri evening primroses, and so on. But the Mexican evening primrose is one I planted in my yard after I saw short-mown ones happily and beautifully flowering in a neighbor's lawn.

His San Clemente coastal sage scrub looks very similar to a restored oil field in Montebello. Most plants are cheek by jowl shrubs about the same height. From Las Pilitas -

I was at the dentist today and I was thinking of you. I asked if a dentist could see a bone infection from an x-ray and they said 'usually, yes'.

I'm not sure if they can actually see the infection itself from the X-Ray alone, but in my case with the massive bone loss it was just assumed that it must have been going on. It's probably not very easy to detect by an X-Ray alone early on though.
That CT machine that you sit in does a full rotation around your head and allows a computer program to spin the head 360 degrees in any direction and it's taken over a length of about 15 to 30 seconds.
The X-Rays are just static images, and in my case they showed a lot of empty space where the bone was supposed to be. The CT though shows almost a "throbbing" mass of colors where the bone used to be under the gums.

Seems a downpour tonight. Wasn't paying any attention at work, so it was a surprise. Newly surfaced parking lot doesn't drain worth a poo. Almost flooded out my engine in the parking lot - twice. And then also 8 more times on the 4 streets I took getting home.
Anyway, I did learn something tonight, about the morons of our Government. Apparently my phone service provider allows some entity to not only put text alerts about weather on my phone ('cause when I'm mobile - and outside - I won't be able to notice if is raining), but also to keep the display lit up while you're not using the phone, until you pick up the phone later and find all of your battery power drained. This is an excellent plan for when you get stuck in flooding waters and find you have no battery power to call for help - like an EMERGENCY type situation, and these fvucktards have robbed you of your emergency resource, so you can die. These are genius-level azzholes.
Somebody should just shoot these people. Where's a psychotropic victim when you need one?
A Firehouse was flooded out, will be closed for weeks. One Street had almost every house condemned today.
