Dollhouse finally gets wiped

I liked the show, I watched the show, but really, it meandered all over, couldn't seem to figure out what the heck it was about, seemed like it kept changing it's mind (No, I'm like Charlie's angels, only, I'm just one chick - that changes into different people and costumes... no, wait.. I'm really a good guy terrorist trying to take down a corporation.. no, wait, really I'm a genetic anomaly that can override programming and use my brain like a filing cabinet, pulling out skills as I need them.. no, wait.. changed my mind again.... )

And to make matters worse, I couldn't STAND "Caroline" and "Echo" was only barely not annoying. I like Eliza, but I feel like she's just Faith, badly pretending to be someone else, over and over again. And I don't love Faith.

The supporting characters were way interesting, but their storylines felt like they were ALL over the place...

Towards the end, it seemed like they'd finally decided on a pretty cool show, but on FOX, you just can't take two seasons to get there! You have to know what you are and who you are and what you're doing right off the bat. While I am a HUGE fan of all things Joss, I am surprised Dollhouse lasted as long as it did - happy, but surprised.

I love Joss's style, the way the characters talk, the moments like Paul's "What I miss?" reaction to a friend leveling a gun at his head - that's a GREAT reaction. You know his brain summed everything up quickly, and went straight to the most important question. Not "Hey! What are you doing?" or anything expected. "What'd I miss?" It's just classic Joss dialogue. Whoever actually wrote it lol.

Anyway... I'm sad it's going, but I'm really hopeful the next idea is a little better evolved by the time it hits the airwaves - I doubt he's going to get two full seasons next time to figure things out.

The sad thing, I think, is if you look at Buffy, it wasn't it's strongest in the early seasons, either. It was lucky enough to be popular before we knew what it could be, and Fox was happy back then, to let it get there, as it was already plenty popular.

Man, those shows bring back fond memories - Kung Fu, Airwolf, Star Trek.

I agree that execs don't generally give shows a fighting chance, especially if they don't become an instant hit. But I say that they bury shows they don't like more so than they give shows a chance. Bottom line is king in H'wood.

My favs from jump were:

Firefly, of course (was hooked from the moment I saw Serenity fly over the horses in the promo)

Dark Angel, Jessica Alba - enough said.

Space: Above and Beyond - Marines in space fighting aliens (Hmmm, sounds familiar)

Will & Grace (Hey, how did that get in there?)

TBBT - geeks who love sci-fi (remind you of anyone?)

MASH - a big fan back when.

Frasier - brilliantly written.

Star Trek Voyager - some really good stories, then there's 7of9.

Special mention: Quantum Leap.

To be fair, I do lean toward sci-fi for fav shows.

To me the main mistake with Dollhouse was to focus 80% of the time on one character, especially when that character was literally completely other people half the time, so you never really knew who that person was.

Man....that sounded complicated.

Mal may have been the 'star' of Firefly, but it never focused 100% on him. That's what I loved about it. Name me another show that had nine primary characters!

No, seriously, I'd like to know and check it out...provided it's not Star Trek....

Now that would be awesome. Get all of "Joss's Stock Player Company" together and do another internet thingy. It would blow Network TV off the air.

I have to admit that I haven't been watching Dollhouse regularly since the first couple of episodes but I caught the end of Friday's episode. It blew me away, literally.

This is what Dollhouse should have been about and it should have been on SYFY as a BSG replacement.

That was The WB that gave Buffy the chance to grow. 20th Century Fox Studios produced it but the FOX tv network had nothing to do with it.

The same could be applied to Buffy and Angel as well. The title characters may have been the main leads but you were just as interested in Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordy, Wes, Fred, Gunn and all the others that made up the ensemble and they all had their own stories.

One thing that really disappointed me about Dollhouse was that even with Echo as the lead doll they only used three others. Victor, Sierra and November were used but what about the other 22 names? Alpha and Whiskey were used in the past but I assume they would have been replaced and a couple of other names got mentioned in passing but I would have liked to have seen more of them, even if only whilst on a mission.

The last few episodes have been fantastic. This show doesn't deserve to be canceled any more than Firefly did. I really like the show, and I feel like it deserves some sort of fight to be "saved"...

Agreed, establish the Dollhouse premise in the first ep and then go into the inner workings of the DH structure and some of the motivating factors. The eps that contained actual assignments were pretty much run-of-the-mill assignment gone wrong and had no real suspense other than when will echo save the day.

Ep after ep was saying how special Echo was instead of showing us how special she was. What I liked about the ending of Friday's ep was Boyd's role in all of this. Personally I would have preferred that the reveal wasn't until Ballard found out - that my friends would have been a much better climax. The way it was done t'was only a matter of time before Echo and company blew him away. That was a small pet peeve I had about this ep.

Once again though, Joss brings in the theme of family, although somewhat warped, but family nonetheless. If Ballard ends up with Echo/Caroline I'm gonna puke. I do not like this match up. Ballard, to me, was much more annoying than heroic. Glad to see Pria and Victor end up together. Is it me or does anyone else feel that Echo's present persona has evolved for the worse. Just a thought.

I kinda felt bad when Mellie did the Russian Roulette thingy. Anyone else?

I don't think Lost's characters can hold a candle to any of Joss's primary characters. Heck the writers can't even keep Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Locke consistent.
