I wouldn't bash the comic thing so much

In fact his run on X-men received critical praise and IMO it was a lot more rich and entertaining than Dollhouse

Season 1 Episode 01

...this cancellation, MAY, and i stress the MAY, bring back TSCC. I'm not saying i believe it, and not at the expense of another show, Terminator or not, but you have to wonder, will they, or may they? Like i said any show that sticks it to FOX, i love at this point, and i hope DOLLHOUSE gets picked up by SYFY...

See, to me, TSCC would be just about a PERFECT fit at Syfy, and that's really more the audience it's aimed at anyway. Dollhouse, in my not-so-humble opinion, just doesn't really HAVE a target audience.

Like Byte said, it's not so much Eliza's acting (or to some extent, maybe it is); it's that the roles and the characters themselves just aren't very likable. The "good guys" on the show are nothing more than blank slates, and the "bad guys" aren't even tortured souls who do what they have to, but have their reasons and their moral code of ethics. They're just bad people, doing bad things for large amounts of money. Nothing compelling about that. If I wanted THAT story, I'd make a show about Goldman Sachs! ;)

I loved Astonishing X-Men issues 1-8 after that, the story just kind of fizzled out.
Everything else he has written in comics has just kind of been average IMO. And Joss is no mediocre writer by any means.

Well, it's a different medium. He's talked before about how weird it was going from directing a tv-series to directing a movie. Writing for tv-shows versus movies versus literature versus comic books all have a different feel.

That's probably why he gets writers and artists for him for comic books, he can tell them basically what he wants, and they can execute it in a manner that works for comic books.

Not surprised. DH was too dark for general viewers and you needed patience, something that a majority of folk don't have when viewing.

Still though I liked the concept, had Fox left Joss alone with his chemistry set early on, perhaps we would have a surprise hit on our hands. Of course nothing like Firefly, but a hit none the less.

My fav eps involved the bonding relationship between Echo and Boyd. I always wanted to see where that was going. Eliza was not so bad when she interacted with Harry Lennix (Boyd). Unfortunately we won't get to ride this out either.

Maybe now we'll finally get Book's back story.
Firefly miniseries?

Oh, the possibilities.

I´ve really tried to like this show and that´s really the problem. You shouldn´t have to try that hard to like a show, so it´s clearly not working for me.. The twists that they´re coming up with now doesn´t make any sense. And now that they killed off a certain character, I´ve lost the one point of interest I had. Another problem is that Eliza Dushku is the worst actor/actress on the show. Not sad to see this go, Joss will have more time to do something good.

Exactly, we all just fell in love with FIREFLY, nor STARGATE, nor STAR TREK. Nor any of the oter shows/ movies that are great. You love it instantly, or you don't. Now there is some leway, but in general, if you fail to love a show by episode say five, six, then it should be cancelled. Case in point, SOUTH PARK, and the SIMPSONS, people love them instantly, or they hate them. By the way, my other vehicle, is, a lime-green EVO VIII, like the one Paul Walker drives in 2FAST2FURIOUS, love the car. Oh, and of course, a FIREFLY.

Shows I instantly loved on sight:

Star Trek
The Prisoner
Kung Fu
Incredible Hulk
Airwolf
Dark Angel

Firefly was not one of them, sadly. I had to discover it on DVD 2 + years later.

Unfortunately, Jameron, the 6 episodes to gain interest thing is probably the code Fox was working off of when they cancelled Firefly. If only things were easier.

Really, the only thing you can rely on is taste. And sometimes, executives will cancel a show or not even give it a chance to succeed because their tastes lie in a different area (or because they're only thinking about profits).

If a show gets put on the air, it should only be because the network loves it or wants to give it a try. Networks executives should be fans of the shows they promote. And they should be upfront about it, so that if they don't like a show because of taste or obscure reasons (like "we think reality shows and baseball will do better this season"), they should say upfront so the producer can shop other networks.

I think that might solve a lot of problems.
