Add on top of the already volatile situation schools where there are additional security measures based on No Tolerance, and students' rights to privacy are regularly violated. This generates rebellion, and more guns/gang violence, and a downward spiral. A culture of fear? I would call that apt.

But right now that's neither here nor there. I agree with Rue: you're channeling the victim's helplessness, and all you can process is fear and rage. FWIW, if I were an onlooker, I'm not sure if I'd have the presence of mind to take pix (I think that's an excellent idea) but I would call 911, and in addition I would run to fetch the nearest security guards and/ or on-campus police.
I'm sorry for your fear; if there was a way to make it better, I would.

Haven't replied because I ain't had time, and now I see I don't have to.
Preventing the environment that causes this behavior is the key to eliminating this conduct.

The causes are different from the ones you think, when you DO think - you really do need to find a way to maintain control when your blood gets up.
My personal resolution to that problem was to consult a very good martial arts instructor not for defense training so much as teaching me to deal with that exact problem, and that DID work, so you might consider it.

I take exception to that! :) There are many nations with vaguely germanic sounding language, so for once let's not deflect in the Germans. Pick the Dutch or some Scandinavian country. Everyone loves the Swedish, right? They can take a little groundless negativy...
