We haven't talked much trash in a week or more... (or have I gotten so used to it that I have become desensitized to our verbal violence?)
Sure I diss'd Nikki as we passed her (and every other show as we went by (and let's face it, Prince really did leave me an excellent tune to work with)), but that's a tradition (wouldn't be right to be excludin' folk) My heart wasn't really in it because Nikki was never a threat.

There was a thread somewhere where a few folk actually said some almost nice things about Bonanza.
I suppose the reason I (won't speak for others here), on occasion, talk trash/rabble rouse is because Bonanza is the only real challenge. For as long as I've been keeping records, Bonanza is the only show to pull more votes in a day than Firefly. They are putting up a fight. We're gaining on them now, but at our closure rate it'll be 4 - 12 months (depending on how you want to mash the numbers) before we catch them. There's a whole lot of 'if' between now and then. Who's to say that in 3 months Bonanza won't be pulling away fast? I would expect to have my nose seriously rubbed in that 'Squishing Firefly like a bug' comment.
Hmmmm... Come to think of it, the trash talk (as I recall) was centered around the time when Bonanza was pulling away from us. We needed to raise the excitement level here on the board, and get out our vote. Now that we are consistently outpacing them, things have settled down for the most part.
My appologies for the length. Just needed to walk my brain through it (before my first cup of coffee even).
Short answer: For now, we don't. We can be a nice silent death approaching with the inevitability of time.

The atmosphere here has quickly turned from cheering section at a football game to mommy and daddy are fighting at the dinner table.

When you look at the other boards for our competitors, there's an interesting pattern. A call to arms, blind hope that they will keep their place, a last call for action then quiet resignation as we race on by.

This is different, the voting space between us much larger and the daily voting differential less,a lot can happen in 2007 to tip the balance either way.

The bonanza fans are similar to browncoats, I guess it's a honest passion and 45 years of fan activity deserves recognition and acknowledgement.

I've neither the time nor the patience to do a full contextual analysis between the characters of the two shows. But I will say that these two shows are from a different time and age.

The crew of Firefly is multifaith, multicultural and socially diverse. Bonanza is anchored in the era of a Cold War white family where Father knows best. That feels like Browncoats versus Alliance to me, but at the same time I cannot ignore Michael Landon unfailing altruism so it could be either way.

I can respect that characters in Bonanza are god fearing and want to make their own way in the world without being beholden to any man or govt. What of the Native Americans who inhabited the land before the Ponderosa ranch was formed?

When Unification happened, did the Alliance send in their settlers and colonists to seed Independent towns and settlements? It's highly likely. It's been a common practice since Roman times with conquered land awarded to retired soldiers.

I don't know enough of the Bonanza back story to answer the next question. Where would the Cartwrights place their allegiance? Are they Browncoat or Alliance?

If they're Browncoat then we will pass them with a smile. If they're Alliance then passing them will be a pleasure, a responsibility and a duty.

I hope that I didn't start the "Bonanza trash talk" debate with my post about what's happening on their boards.

I just think it's prudent to keep an eye on what they're doing, in as far as it's possible. They are, after all, our biggest threat to world domination.

As far as I'm aware, we haven't had any trash talking about Bonanza in ages. And they haven't discussed us for just as long. There seems to have been some sort of unspoken cease fire, ever since we noticed them lurking on our boards. I mean we haven't been calling them "old geezers" out loud, and they've refrained from referring to us as "young, out of work, loafing computer geeks" (I'm paraphrasing of course...)

Things are going so well!

Although I have to admit, secretly and deep down, I sort of miss their insults and comments.... Although I would in no way insinuate that they started the trash talk. We gave as good as we got, I think.
