Both. If I'm even a little sad, and I put in John Denver (cut me some slack, it's the music of my childhood) I get the urge to slit my wrists. As much as I enjoy the greatest hits, I CANNOT listen to the music without getting depressed.
Was listening to a mix the other day and it had some Fresh Prince...I mean Will Smith on it. That just made me have to get up and shake my groove thing.
Early ska puts me in an easy going laid back frame of mind. Although I usually only feel like listening to it on beautiful sunny days. So maybe it's the day...or the combination.
I clean to The Sundays for some reason. They're mellow, but upbeat enough that the time passes as pleasantly as it can whilst scrubbing toilets.

for me I guess it'd be both. Sometimes I pick music because I'm in a mood and sometimes I pick music to get me out of a mood:) Showtunes and U2 are usually to get me out of a bad mood:)

Yeah, I get the same urge from hearing John Denver too. 
But really, I hate the way most of the younger women in my life listen to music. One or two songs on a CD for "Nostalgic" purposes,(Though sometimes they won't admit to it). And what the hell is up with having to change CD's every song or two? Just listen to the whole damn thing, or at least half, already.
What I really don't get is this:
I was driving with a my best friend one morning after a long night at the bar shooting pool. I started listening to Tom Petty and skipped to Mary Jane's Last Dance. She suddenly got very angry and ejected the disk. "You're thinking about her, aren't you?" she asked. "Yeah. So?", I said. She proceeded to tell me how jealous of the ex she was, and they never even met. SO F-ing what if I was being nostalgic. I put up with so much 
from women over the years.
Done for a bit. Need to work some.

One word: iPod. or maybe back farther: Napster. Downloading music means you only have to listen to the songs that drew you to the album in the first place. You no longer have to listen...and usually grow to love...the rest of the album. It's so easy to switch from song to song.

Well, NV. If I was interested in a guy who persisted to wax poetical about an ex, I would get upset. If we were just friends, not so much. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy the memories, just don't let me know about it. That's all.

See, that makes sense. But why would someone who'd been with most everyone we knew at the time get all sandy in the britches over me having a fond memory.
As much as I hate being alone, I can't believe how well it is starting to suit me.
I tend to look at romance in a very grainy light anymore. My personality is less than spontaneous because of bad timing, (or bitchy women). I've been burned and blown off so many times I just don't like the idea of showing up with flowers or kidnapping someone for lunch.
I am ruined and fear there will be no return of the the "Sweet" NVG that I hear about all the time. Just gettin' tired of hearing how sweet I am from everyone but the women I persue. Everyone around them mention it in layers, but none of it seems to matter.
I told my family that I have accepted this as being my life. Cleaning up messes, helping everyone, helping with the kids, being pretty much broke.
So, not to sound too greedy, Where is the F-ing incentive?
Being patient sucks!

How do MrG? Funny how women hold grudges and remember even the slightest of details. If only we could use a female brain for our coputers memory. Problem is that if something disagreeable happened with another computer, yours would have a terrible memory lapse and "forget" some of the things you want to see. Either that or it'd ignore you for a while.
Just got like fourty notifications on my E-mail. Kinda cool to see all your notifications arrive at once.
Probably out for the night folks. Maybe I'll be in a better mood tomorrow. Sleep may help a bit.

NV- I feel compelled to share a profound truth I learned when I was 17...Sweet will get you stomped on. Bitter is better:) Well ok not like nasty hateful bitter, but bitter in the "um no this is my life and this is what I am doing and you're not voting as my physical and mental being are not a democracy" is better.
I say this as someone who right now feels guilty that I am not over helping my brother and sister in law do yard work in their new house ( after teaching all day, having a meeting, then tutoring for 2 hours)I feel bad that I'm not taking care of them, but I have really worked at saying NO and taking me time and letting people clean up their own mess or wallow in it. It's worked for me....maybe you should take a me berak and go do something fun for you....actually I think we all should
OK everyone go empty your bank accounts, buy plane tickets, and meet me in Vegas. Then we can all run wild like crazed monkies
