Okay, so at this point I've been giving some thought to why it is I wrote the three fanfics I've posted to this site. I discovered Firefly this summer, and of course got really into it. Like most browncoats I'm sure, I always had what I figured were brilliant ideas for new episodes. Writing fan fiction, however, seemed a new level of obsession I wasn't quite ready to jump in to . Still, "Honor" nagged at me. Pure fluff, I figured, it'll be fun to write and then I'll be done. Cathartic, if you will. And people liked it! a few hours after I posted it, I got some nice comments. I was surprised when more people wrote in to say they liked it. I'm a published writer - nonfiction articles in alternative newspapers, mostly about politics. No-one ever sent me as much as a damn email about stuff in papers with 35,000 readers. So I wrote a second piece, "Song of Shepherd." I waited for the acclaim to come pouring in. Not so much. The odd dog barked. That's not entirely true; several people left supportive comments, encouraging me to write more. But it took a lot longer for folks to respond. So I did, "Home." But I find myself waiting in anticipation for someone to acknowlege that I had done good again. Poking around the site, I find other people begging for comments at the end of thier pieces. I don't like to think the reason that I am writing is because I want to be praised, but rather because it's fun to write...

I'm looking forward to getting carded when I go for dinner later in the day! Well, I really don't have that much else to say, so, I'll sign off now. JOSSISAGOD!!! By the way, I'm writing this blog at 12:09AM so no one will write in it yet.

Recieved two fun packages in the mail this morning (actually as I type this in the whitching hour technically it was yesterday morning) The first from Things From Another World contained my Serenity ornament. Nice. BUt just as spectacularly I also recieved my Mal Final Battle action figure from poplollies.com . Can't wait to bust it open and get all final battle-y. A shame they didn't get around to making an Operative figure though; it'll make the battle a tad one sided. Still looking for the Jayne Mercenary to complete the set. I must say I got great service from TFAW (as usual) and from Poplollies. They tossed in a big handfull of freebie things - some postcards and the like also some joss paper. So now I have money to burn come Chinese new year. Untill then it's sitting under the ornament to make a better display in the Serenifly Shrine. I would certainly order from them again. Then a whirlwind journey out to the 'burbs to watch the Chicago Fire (Major League Soccer) beat the Collorado Rapids (of the same league) 1-0. There may be hope for this season yet. Night all. Don't let the spacebugs bite.

Joss wanted to see a goofier side of Mal, and sweeter side of Jayne, if the series had continued. I like to think I am continuing that vision, in my own not-so-humble way. I have a few folks waiting for angst to crop up in my fics - I don't do hurt/comfort or bigepic angst. I think watching two people interact on a human level is far more affecting. This isn't to say that I'm not going to blow s**t up if the script calls for it, of course. I got absolutely mugged by one pairing that I never intended to write, but it just crept up on me, the more I rewatched or re-read. So I'm just going to continue on my own goofy little way. Of course, this means I'm in deep crap when the series returns - I'm going to be yelling at the screen, when it doesn't go 'right'. Unless Joss offers me a job. I would love to write the next Serenity novel - hell, I'll fight for it. Got my own sword and everything.
