In Defence of Rayne
Tuesday, 22 May 2007 08:47:11

When I first started posting my Maya fanfics, if anyone had said I would be writing Rayne smut, I would have said no way. Actually, I’d probably have have said lao-tyen, boo, but that’s personal. In just the same way as, to me, Mal and River is a pairing uncontemplatable (yes, that is a word – now), so was River and Jayne. Our favourite mercenary’s older than Mal, for a start, he’s a killer, not too bright … then I started to write him. And I suddenly saw he had a softer side. From the story JAYNE’S KID he began to insinuate himself into my affections, which to someone who adores Mal is downright unsettling. But I would still have said … Jayne and River? Uh uh. Then she started to show up. Appearing in my fics, watching him while he worked out. Spooking him. Making him all kinds of uncomfortable. As the series progressed with other characters taking the forestage, there was this little rumbling going on the background, mostly Jayne swearing in Chinese, I’ll admit, but it was there. Then came the revelation. PROPOSAL saw Jayne and River actually conversing, like adults. Well, almost adults. And therein lies the rub. Perhaps they’re actually closer in age than we think … she’s never really had a childhood, he’s never left his … Anyway, after BIRTHDAY it’s Jayne who helps River the most. This was, I admit, getting creepy. Characters were taking over as stories like SOLOMON flowed fully formed from my fingers, and JAYNE’S NIGHT made the point that she was having an effect on him. And all through this Jayne was becoming more … human, showing other skills than just killing people. Then the crunch came in THE NURSERY, when they talked, and Jayne seriously began to doubt himself. Then the spanner that was Jethro arrived, and the works ground to a halt. Fights, arguments ensued, until with Jayne leaving Serenity I really thought it was over, and I breathed a sigh of relief. But it was a temporary respite only. True love can never be honestly contained. It has been a learning curve for me too, seeing two characters grow and develop, almost like watching two of my oldest friends fumble towards love. But here they are, and now, with fanfares and accorded drums, we come to STEALING A KISS, NC17 smutty Rayne in which the relationship is finally consummated. Enjoy! (Oh, and those of you who don't OCs can still read this ... there's barely a mention!)

It is completed

The Losing Side.....too dark?
Tuesday, 22 May 2007 11:55:44

May I trouble my fair readers for some honest opinions? We've all read (or at least I have - ugh) a few of those unrelentingly dark, "never-ending abuse" stories. I for one hate them. So it gets my attention in a hurry when a long-term reader comments that they are losing enjoyment in the story for that very reason. It's absolutely not the sort of thing I want to write. This is a dark period of the story, and according to my current plan it's going to get even darker…..but now I'm questioning that decision. I've got a problem with this fic, in that a number of people have told me privately that it's too – fluffy – for lack of a better word, that to be realistic I need to make it darker. I have never quite agreed with that, but I wonder if the peer pressure has had some effect? Mal, of course, does not end up actually serving his sentence – in fact both he and Wash will be free and moving on to happier times *relatively* soon. But….there are some very tough times ahead…..he'll pass through it soon enough and all that, but honest opinions on if soon enough is actually soon enough would be welcomed! I can try to lighten things up, shorten the dark bits, etc. if need be. If I'm crossing the line into being one of "those" writers who seem to be merely putting the characters through unrelenting hell for love of the angst factor....please tell me now? So I can save myself and the story?

Magically Reappeared!!!
Tuesday, 22 May 2007 15:25:05

So I come home last night and go into my DVD cabinet and what do I see...... The Omen has magically reapeared!!! Weeds is still gone though, wish they'd have brought that back instead. I was gone most of the evening, so I don't know who took it, or put it back.

Another (lack of) car rant!
Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:02:40

I've delved deeper into the reason I'm ticked about not having MY car at 21. I've now realized that, it's not just the lack of the car, but WHO has the car! My little brother has the car that was meant for me. He has recently shown that he doesn't really deserve the car. He's done some things mostly teenage slacking off things that to me say, "I don't really care about anything right now." This coupled with the fact that he gets the car, I had to wait until I was nineteen and a half to get, handed to him at sixteen, says that my parents are still making my decisions for me, while letting my little brother do whatever he wants. Also, when I tried to broch the subject of letting me have more time in my car, my parents basically ignore my side and tell me that lil bro' needs the car to drive to school, when he can just as easily take the bus like I did throughout highschool. Oh yeah, life's fair that way! JOSSIS(still)AGOD!
