Hi! I just signed up today! I have been a fan of Firefly since Serenity came out and I love it! I even have fan fiction written which I have never shared.

I recieved some crushing news less than two hours ago. A friend of mine has just passed away. Her name was Ayla, and she was dear to most she knew. This morning she was traveling from Orillia Ontario, to Oshawa Ontario, and was in a car crash. She was pronounced dead at 2:30 in the morning. Myself, her friends, her family all grieve today. To be honest, I really dont know what so say. How to honour her memory. 18 years old... It is really quite numbing. This is the first death that has really affected me personally. Now I understand the feeling Joss was trying to get across in Buffy's "The Body". Thoughts still come to mind that cause me to butst into tears. She will never feel the joy of marrage. She had only come into a place of true happiness, out of a place of horror and depression she resided in. She had only just graduated high school. Had her whole life ahead of her. Why do these things happen? I don't know. Why is there death? I don't know. Why would God allow such a thing? Such a beautiful, and wonderful woman, who has touched so many lives. I don't know. What I do know, that everything happens for a reason. That her death will influence and chance many lives for the better. And she is in a better place. ::In Memorium: Ayla Facey 1988-2007::

When I first discovered The Tragically Hip, I also discovered that yes, there is such a thing as intelligent rock and roll. Last night, however, what else did I discover? Inspiration. For as I was on my way to church this morning, I suddenly found myself thinking in such poetic terms as I haven't known for the past several months. Funniest thing, but I will bet you a crate of Vera-ammo that listening to 20-odd live Tragically Hip tunes - and Gordon Downie's Riverine rambling, both between and during the songs - booted my muse out of her bunk and aimed my own writer's eye back toward the air. Gotta 'scuse me now, I have something to contribute to the Hip Story Project. :biggrin: (Not to mention the BSR, sooner than I thought!) Who knew that a Hipsy evening could make everything that much shinier? Ah, but I almost forgot the shiniest part: there were at least two other Browncoats in attendance!! :biggrin: I wore my Serenity T-shirt just on the off chance. Saw one guy wearing a "Let's Be Bad Guys" shirt, but I didn't get a chance to talk to him. There was then one other fella who, while on his way off to get a drink, pointed straight at me and went, "GREAT SHIRT!" To which I naturally responded, "Shiny - let's be bad guys!" When he came back he asserted that there really should have been at least nine more episodes and/or another movie. Well, let no man say they ain't trying.... So. Three Browncoats at one Hip concert. What are the odds?? :wink:
