I just watched the first episode of the last ship. I liked it. I hope it works. Hope Adam stays loyal to the captain.

IIRC, in the book the XO was the "bad guy", always at odds with the Captain and eventually leads a psuedo mutiny.
But, the show really has not much in common with the book so anything goes.

Maybe, but I think they started to set the conflict between the two up in the episode. I did not read the book and noticed it so that's why the comment.
