I snagged a player on eBay for $38 WITH shipping, and played my first two movies on it, and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. The colours are noticeably deeper & richer, and fine detail is crystal clear. I'm not tempted to replace my entire DVD collection, but my favourites will definitely get upgraded bit by bit.
So, have you taken the plunge yet, or are you still all Fred Flintstone-ing it with your ancient DVD technology?

I've been blu ray for a while. Just for fun I got a blue ray copy of Casablanca and what it even does for a black and white movie is amazing.

I got the 1978 BSG movie & The Living Daylights (both REAL cheap) and I was blown away. I can't WAIT to get Serenity on BR now. And Superman: The Movie...

Made the switch years ago. It is a noticeable improvement, and Im not even running at it's highest resolution (I have a 720p set, which started to fritz out a couple years back - I promised I wouldn't buy a new one till it quit, and it just WON'T FREAKIN' DIE).

I certainly haven't replaced my whole collection, but I certain titles, which Ive gotten in every available format, did get the upgrade (Firefly, Star Wars, Indy, Blade Runner, The Thing, Alien(s), LA Confidential....ok, so a few).

Oh, and the remastered Star Trek: The Next Generation sets are wonderful.

Talked to a guy who sells used media the other day. Said he literally can't GIVE away blu-rays.

Sorry buddy, it's just a niche market. In five-ten years just about everyone will be streaming. Deals are in the works now, just you wait and see.

I don't want any more junk cluttering my house. I just gave away the last few VHS tapes, and I have Netflix so if I ever really really wanna see it, just "add to queue"

My Son streams most of his stuff.
I want my OWN copies of movies. No 'line problems', no 'slow lane' pauses. And BR looks better to me than the best HD stream.

Of course in the future, it'll all be streaming. But that leaves you at the mercy of the rights holders, and when and where they chose to make them available.

Plus, Im a film collector - the cloud means diddly to a collector. Vinyl is a niche market, too - but its still there (and their sales have been growing for the last few years).

And for now, streaming doesn't offer the same picture quality as physical, and if the service providers are able to put the data caps on that they want - won't be any time soon. So Im glad to have them for a number of reasons.

Funny. I was just watching Cabin in the Woods, which was by random chance the first Blu-Ray DVD I bought. I'm not the best judge because I bought the Blu-Ray player along with a big ole plasma screen which was the first modern flat-screen I owned. My previous TV was a crappy cheap little bitty pre-2000 thing. I couldn't even read the score banner during hockey games on that old screen.

Hey - I don't do home TV much.

I do love the Blu-Ray. I don't know if I'd really notice not having it, because as I said - not much experience with quality home-viewing before this. But some stuff looks very nice on it. The Avengers, for instance. :)

My bluray player player is 3D, which sadly my plasma screen is not. The next TV I buy will be 3D. I know some folks get headaches, but I looove 3D.

Just playin' with my new toys, and a preview of a brand new CGI fest looks SO sharp that it almost looks BAD to me!?

Question: is Blu Ray best for sharpening up older FILMED movies do you think?
