I haven't seen the latest episode (4/8) nor Winter Soldier.
Should I watch one before the other?

Absolutely watch Winter Soldier first IMO. They give away some plot details from the movie in the episode.

The movie really ratcheted up the tension for the show. Which was the plan from the start from what I'm reading. Pretty dang cool. Just a really slow burn for a new show. They needed something to happen before now to keep the viewers interested. Anyway it will be interesting to see where the ratings go from here.

With apologies to Joss, The Winter Soldier is in my opinion the best MCU production yet, not only in the action scenes and FX, but also character development. And they were not kidding when they said it, "Changes Everything." I am glad I saw it yesterday before the new SHIELD episode.

I can't see how SHIELD's ratings won't be climbing from now to the season finale. With Avengers 2 out next year and Cap3 the year after, there's no reason for ABC not to renew SHIELD even if the ratings are flat the rest of the year.

I cringed a bit when I heard a review of TWS where they said " it's better than The Avengers! ". That, to me, sounded like a studio desperate to get fans into the theatre, as if they'd not be buying tickets anyways.

Yes. I thought it was very good. I'll likely go see it again. Soon. But better ? To each their own.

As for Agents of Shield, things got real in a hurry. I thought the tie in w/ the movie was damn near excellent. And they did it w/ OUT being over the top either. If you saw the episode and hadn't seen the movie, you're really gonna want to now.

So, I was curious and went to look up the ratings. Apparently Agents of SHIELD hit an all time low this week. I'm baffled. I would have thought people who saw the movie and used to watch the show would come back to see how they were gonna handle it. Best I can think is maybe a lot of people haven't seen the movie and heard that they really need to see it before watching further episodes.

SHIELD has regularly had about the highest percentage boost from DVR and online viewing than any other show this year. More and more people are not tied to the networks' broadcast schedule. So, it may not look so great when you look at the LIVE numbers, but then there's Live+Same Day, Live+3 Days and Live+7 Days that the suits are relying on more these days. I still say it is unlikely that SHIELD will be cancelled. ABC, Disney & Marvel have too much at stake to abandon it now.

Of course, I've been wrong before.

Not necessarily confusing, just surprising, as it was for Coulson too.

Huh?
