Brandeis University's Decision To Cancel Ayaan Hirsi Ali Appearance Has Done Liberals No Favors

Yesterday, it suddenly became very important to focus our attention on the upcoming commencement ceremony at Brandeis University -- which is ordinarily something that most of the wide world outside the Brandeis community could frankly give two figs about. But here's what happened. Brandeis had intended to bring author and -- I guess -- "thought leader" Ayaan Hirsi Ali to their commencement festivities, bestow her with an honorary degree and let her speak to students and fellows at a diploma ceremony and a celebratory breakfast.

Well, as of yesterday, all of that is off. In a statement, the Brandeis said: "She is a compelling public figure and advocate for women's rights, and we respect and appreciate her work to protect and defend the rights of women and girls throughout the world ... That said, we cannot overlook certain of her past statements that are inconsistent with Brandeis University's core values."

So, what's all that about? Well, Hirsi Ali is a figure of some controversy, don't you know! She has been a strong voice against such barbaric practices as female genital mutilation, and the more totalitarian aspects of Islamic sharia law that oppress women, such as so-called "honor killings." Personally speaking, I am glad she has done such things. However, she is not of the mind that Islam is a legitimate religion that has been, in some instances, tragically co-opted in some benighted corners of the world by nihilistic death-cults. She does not believe it is possible for a moderate or Westernized form of Islam to exist. She has said so: "There is no moderate Islam." And so, she has called for the complete destruction of Islam existentially.

I do not hold to that view -- in fact, I find it both risible and farcically contrary to my own experiences -- and she will just have to jolly well accept that. But the reverse is also true, and herein lies the problem we have been presented with, thanks to Brandeis University. Whether they know it or not, the actions they have taken have done way more harm than good. To anyone with a liberal-minded attitude toward freedom of expression, Brandeis' decision has done you no favors. Let's break it down, shall we?

And far more than was the case when you were born, organized violence in the world today is disproportionately concentrated in the Muslim world.

Another striking feature of the countries I have just named, and of the Middle East generally, is that violence against women is also increasing. In Saudi Arabia, there has been a noticeable rise in the practice of female genital mutilation. In Egypt, 99% of women report being sexually harassed and up to 80 sexual assaults occur in a single day.

Especially troubling is the way the status of women as second-class citizens is being cemented in legislation. In Iraq, a law is being proposed that lowers to 9 the legal age at which a girl can be forced into marriage. That same law would give a husband the right to deny his wife permission to leave the house.

Sadly, the list could go on. I hope I speak for many when I say that this is not the world that my generation meant to bequeath yours. When you were born, the West was jubilant, having defeated Soviet communism. An international coalition had forced Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. The next mission for American armed forces would be famine relief in my homeland of Somalia. There was no Department of Homeland Security, and few Americans talked about terrorism.

Two decades ago, not even the bleakest pessimist would have anticipated all that has gone wrong in the part of world where I grew up. After so many victories for feminism in the West, no one would have predicted that women's basic human rights would actually be reduced in so many countries as the 20th century gave way to the 21st.

Today, however, I am going to predict a better future, because I believe that the pendulum has swung almost as far as it possibly can in the wrong direction.

When I see millions of women in Afghanistan defying threats from the Taliban and lining up to vote; when I see women in Saudi Arabia defying an absurd ban on female driving; and when I see Tunisian women celebrating the conviction of a group of policemen for a heinous gang rape, I feel more optimistic than I did a few years ago. The misnamed Arab Spring has been a revolution full of disappointments. But I believe it has created an opportunity for traditional forms of authority—including patriarchal authority—to be challenged, and even for the religious justifications for the oppression of wo

^^ I applaud your courage to acknowledge the problems, and I admire your originality. But I believe Muslim women in Islamic countries have been so sytematically brutalized all their lives that they would vouch for every single monster that ever laid hands on them. Since being gay is a genetic thing as opposed to a choice, one can reasonably assume there are at least 100 million gays and lesbians living within Islamist countries. Not being able to get married to another gay person is probably the least of their problems. Yet we don't ever hear much from them on how they just simply get by in their lives.

Some Cleveland Hopkins cab drivers refuse to drive with Gay Games signage

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Some drivers of the zone-based taxis operating out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport have notified their companies they don't want to drive the cabs for religious reasons, citing rooftop placards that are advertising the upcoming Gay Games.

Hopkins released a statement saying that two of the three taxi companies operating at the airport -- Ace and Yellow Taxi – were informed by several of their drivers they will no longer participate in the airport's dedicated taxi cab program.

Patrick Keenan, general manager for the third company, Americab, said two of his drivers also have opted not to drive because of the Gay Games ads. The drivers are Muslims, Keenan and Hopkins spokeswoman Jackie Mayo said.

The drivers told their companies that their decision was based on religious reasons, Hopkins said in its statement.

Primarily because I'm not a Republican, for starters. Is that a good enough reason ?

I fully agree that the life which comes from the case of rape is indeed innocent. But rape or not, I feel that a woman ( or teenage girl, for that matter ) who gets pregnant has every right to end a pregnancy she doesn't want, provided it's with in the first trimester. No questions asked.

I gave credible citation to the reference I made, there by proving to 1kiki that my statement was based in FACT, not gossip. It was, as usual, SOLID information. Not me merely talking.

Instead of acknowledging I had indeed stated fact, 1kiki ignored my point, and instead fell back on the tried and true tactic of the Left, the " Yeah, but " reply. This wasn't a discussion on whether or not there are cases of discrimination or not against gays, but more specifically, how we are at a point in time where one may force SOME folks to ignore their religious views, to appease others. ( This is apparently in stark contrast to the case in Cleveland, where Muslims weren't being forced to participate in the promotion of the Gay Games, even though THEY claimed religious views as the reason. )

I once again pointed out that I had indeed offer citation for my claim, and again, it was all but rejected. What followed was insignificant goofiness, of which I willingly played along, seeing that there was no interest in honest, mature and civil discussion.

Right on cue, you come right around and pick up the inane insults, as you completely ignore the actual point of the discussion.

I'd ask, are you truly this incapable of following along a adult level conversation, or are you so petty and filled w/ insecurity and hatred, you CHOOSE to be a dickhead ?

Sudanese Government Backtracking on Reports about Meriam Ibrahim’s Freedom from Death Row

According to a story by Fox News.com, over the weekend, hopes Meriam Ibrahim, who recently gave birth while in a Sudanese prison with her 20-month-old son, would be released were buoyed.

That occurred when when Abdullahi al-Azreg, an undersecretary at the foreign ministry, said the nation believes in religious freedom and was committed to her protection.

But another foreign ministry official denied that statement on Sunday, according to the BBC, issuing a statement saying that the Sudanese judicial system is the only authority able to rule on the case.

"The defense team of the concerned citizen has appealed the verdict ... and if the appeals court rules in her favor, she will be released," Fox News reported the ministry said in the statement.

Ibrahim's husband, Daniel Wani, who has dual Sudanese and American citizenship, told the BBC he had been skeptical from the beginning, after reports surfaced saying his wife would be freed.

"No Sudanese or foreign mediator contacted me. Maybe there are contacts between the Sudanese government and foreign sides that I'm not aware of," said Wani, speaking from Khartoum.

Ibrahim was convicted by a Sudanese court on April 30 for apostasy, and given two weeks to recant her Christian faith. She refused and was sentenced to be hanged, though the court will not carry out the sentence until she has finished nursing her newly born daughter, Maya.

So it's been over 2 months since the 300 girls were kidnapped and taken into the jungle by their psycho murdering Muslim captors. And these terrorists continue to attack villages and slaughter hundreds of people.

And NO ONE knows where they are? The Nigerian Army can't find them? U.S. Intelligence and drones can't find them? A big camp with 300+ teenage girls in the jungle can't be found? Bullshit ... bullshit ... bullshit.

Hillary Clinton Helped Child Rapist Get Off, Attacked 12-Year-Old Victim

Hillary Clinton is often billed as a role model for young girls and women. But she has spent a lot of her time hurting young girls and women instead.

Her career and her personal life became entwined with covering up for rapists and hurting women.

In the early hours of May 10, 1975, the Springdale, Arkansas police department received a call from a nearby hospital. It was treating a 12-year-old girl who said she had been raped.

The suspect was identified as Thomas Alfred Taylor, a 41-year-old factory worker and friend of the girl’s family.

Taylor drove the group around in his truck, pouring the girl whisky and coke on the way. The group later drove to a “weedy ravine” near the highway where Taylor raped the 12-year-old.

The lawyer he would end up with: Hillary Rodham.

“It was a fascinating case, it was a very interesting case,” Clinton says in the recording. “This guy was accused of raping a 12-year-old. Course he claimed that he didn’t, and all this stuff.”

“I had him take a polygraph, which he passed – which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs,” she added with a laugh.

Hilarious and the jokes just keep on coming.

Clinton can also be heard laughing at several points when discussing the crime lab’s accidental destruction of DNA evidence that tied Taylor to the crime.

You can see why Bill picked her.

According to court documents, the prosecution’s case was based on testimony from the 12-year-old girl and the two male witnesses as well as on a “pair of men’s undershorts taken from the defendant herein.”

In a July 28, 1975, court affidavit, Clinton wrote that she had been informed the young girl was “emotionally unstable” and had a “tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing.”

You might even say, she’s a narcissistic loony toon. I’m surprised Hillary didn’t marry her client. If only he had been to Oxford.

But the interview reveals that an error by the prosecution would render unnecessary these attacks on the credibility of a 12-year-old rape victim.

Clinton said she got permission from the court to take the underwear to a renowned forensics expert in New York City to see if he could confirm that the evidence had been invalidated.

“The story through the grape vine was that if you could get [this investigator] interested in the case then you had the foremost expert in the world willing to testify, so maybe it came out the way you wanted it to come out,” she said.

She said the investigator examined the cut-up underwear and told her there was not enough blood left on it to test.

When Clinton returned to Arkansas, she said she gave the prosecutor a clipping of the New York forensic investigator’s “Who’s Who.”

“I handed it to Gibson, and I said, ‘Well this guy’s ready to come up from New York to prevent this miscarriage of justice,’” said Clinton, breaking into laughter.

Hillary Clinton did not help get a child rapist freed but instead it was Hillary Rodham. Yes later to become Mrs. Clinton. She was appointed by the court to defend the accused. She did her job unless you think she should have played judge and jury and throw the case. If you do you do not understand the rule of law and what it takes to defend it. Sometimes it is a very high price indeed.

[T]here is a little-known episode Clinton doesn't mention in her standard campaign speech in which those two principles collided. In 1975, a 27-year-old Hillary Rodham, acting as a court-appointed attorney, attacked the credibility of a 12-year-old girl in mounting an aggressive defense for an indigent client accused of rape in Arkansas — using her child development background to help the defendant.

I'm sure you'd have been able to explain it that way to the 12 yr old girl who was raped.

Of course, she's no longer 12 any more, so I'm sure she's over it, and it's not big deal.

But this is just another example of just how pathetic and heartless Hillary is, even in her " youth ".

What difference, at this point, does it make ??
