The cartoon is what I thought this thread would be about since the subject heading of this thread could be the subject heading of the cartoon!!

Nope, I don't read Canadian papers as they are owned by either this company or that family. Wow, I've a choice of two! Fuggin' Nazis... and don't get me started on the Toronto Globe and Zionist Mail... Jebus save me!
Let's get one thing clear... if a news program, paper, journalist or reporter is NOT a lefty... something is wrong.
Of course all good news sources are left leaning, their job is to report what's happening to the people by asking the people, NOT just the elite but ALL THE PEOPLE. People have it hard, things are rough. But the Government and Corporate Axis of Greed will sell you the sweet smell of a lie everytime.
If a news outlet isn't left wing then it's just propoganda - parroting whatever crap press release or quote the Gov/Corp spits out to fool the people.
Of course, the Corporation has control of the Media ... and the Corporation will kill for Bush.
Who owns CNN? or MSNBC? ABC?
So ya think we have a "free press" eh? Check out who owns who, and who owns what you think....

Came to the board to see if anyone else caught Cheney's latest volley of Fear Tactics.
Telling folks that our cities might be bombed with nuclear weapons (because, after all, we live in a SAFER world thanks to the Bush Administration) and, boy, if that happens, you wouldn't want Kerry as President, because Kerry wouldn't be able to handle it.
(So Be Afraid and Vote for Bush! Because if some terrorist bombed one of our cities, you can rely on Bush to sit on his butt for awhile, try to make what political advantage he could make of it, and then ask his advisors to cook up some excuse to invade a completely uninvolved country for purposes of enriching Blue Sun and the other profiteers.)

Is that assuming that all the people are left leaning as well? Who is speaking up for the right leaning? We are people too. In Canada the elite tend to be left-leaning (the political elite anyway) so is it ok for the media to parrot the government as long as its the bias that you want?

Again, I'm not really following you here. Taking the example of the Canadian government which is left leaning (albeit moving towards the centre) doesn't that mean that the left wing news outlets are parroting the gov't? Isn't that what the CBC does?
Why is a left-wing bias ok, but a right-wing bias wrong?

None of this is really a secret. It just reminds me of a paper I wrote on CanWest Global for a news media class a couple of years ago. A lot of the articles I found during my research were about how the Asper's buying the National Post would result in a paper that was essentially a mouthpiece for the Liberal party. I think its safe to say that hasn't happened.
Any media outlet should be regarded as having some bias one way or another, its all run by people and people aren't perfect.
I'd go into this some more but I'm tired and I really should be writing a paper right now
