Scifi writers like Joss seen this coming back in 2001 and even earlier
China has huge industry, a big economy, satellites, science missions, manned space station experiments, robotic things designed to drive on the Moon.
NASA has been cut very badly under Bush and especially now under Obama
South Africa, India, North Korea and Iran may have missions next
The agency NASA has funding cut again and again, politicians are corrupt and have their thumbs up their own ass
disgraceful

Eh. China will realize what America realized eventually - giving people access to space gives them HOPE and puts them beyond reach. Which is a bad move for brutally oppressive governments.
Plus, China's living on borrowed credit even worse than America and their armed forces are actually kind of a joke. And nukes, while scary, are not really that viable a tool for any world domination scheme.
I ain't scared of China or anyone.

I for one welcome a weaponised Chinese Moon.
It's not personal. It's just war.

Gotta remember- Kennedy's original NASA mission to the Moon was fueled by, "How are we ever gonna beat the Roosians?"
The notion that the Chinese (The CHINESE? Huh?) might seriously compete, might catch up, might even do something we CAN'T, could very well set off another space race. That would not be such a bad thing.
But I find it funny that Jayne's (above, gonna edit to correct.) wants to blame the whole thing on Obama. Presidents been cutting the NASA budget since NIXON. Even he has to admit that in his very next sentence.

More on the Chinese Space Program :
An hour after they go to the Moon they want to go again.
They're going to explore the Moon by dividing it into in two parts ... Column A and Column B.
They're sending a rocket to the Sun ... they will land it at night so it doesn't burn up.
They're having problems selecting astronauts for future missions because they all look alike.
Their Moon landing was a mistake ... they thought it was going to Pluto because their astronomical charts read right to left.
The Chinese are designing a new lightweight rocket for deep space exploration. It will only weigh won ton.
They'll be an anti-collision device attached to the drive designed to steer the ship around any approaching meteors. They call it the Peking Duck.
Chinese astronauts using chopsticks will have special versions with handstraps attached for use in zero gravity.
Spacesuits come in two style options, starch or no starch.
There will be a $2 billion dollar delivery charge from the lunar Panda Express.

Just part of the wonders of smaller government, which is what conservatives want.
Why hasn't the free market put a man on the moon?

Because there's no money to be made quickly by doing that

EC - if you think Obama's govt is " small ", you're frelling crazy.
Santa Obama delivers:
Obama issues executive order giving 1 percent raise to federal workers
President Obama signed an executive order Monday authorizing a 1 percent pay raise for federal employees, ending a four-year freeze in salary rates.
The increase, which was in the works for months, will take effect in January. It does not apply to members of Congress but will go to 2.1 million federal workers, from rank-and-file civil servants to high-level career employees and top political appointees.
Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen
I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.

...and this is bad why?
I would think you would want the government to pay people well so that you get good quality people in those jobs.
I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.
