by Dr. Strange and the physical therapist was Dr. Strange's disciple/lover Clea.

My theory is that Agent Coulson doesn't like magic. Maybe because he was killed by
Loki or maybe even before.

Agent Coulson fav hero is Captain America who got his powers from science.

Magic is mentioned several times in the episode. When a hologram is shown,
Fitz says something like It looks like magic but it's science.

"Tahiti. It's a magical place."

If this statement
"a physical therapist whose command of English was... irrelevant."
means that the physical therapist spoke some unknown language.

Note that Coulson doesn't say if the physical therapist was a man or woman.

The word "irrelevant" seems odd in the sentence. Maybe a magic placeholder
for when Coulson memory is going to remember something he shouldn't.

Dr. Strange's friend/lover Clea is from somewhere not earth and
maybe did not speak English around Agent Coulson. Also magic spells might not have
been in English.

A reason Coulson should never know how he was brought back could be a dislike of magic
or that if he knew, he would no longer consider himself to be real.

So I'm going to keep an eye out for
1. ... pauses and the word "irrelevant"
2. word magic
3. was the physical therapist a man or woman. Woman would have white or blond hair like Clea.
4. see if Agent Coulson doesn't like magic.

I haven't enough concrete indications to form an opinion, especially with Joss, things don't ever fully appear to be what you think they could.

The wording certainly WAS carefully chosen, for sure...

Doubtful, since Dr. Strange won't be coming along for at least 3 more years.

Im betting that Coulson is a Life Model Decoy, as many have speculated. Worth noting: In the comics, the Decoys are originally created by the Zodiac Key. They day SHIELD premiered, they also released Iron Man 3 on DVD - which included the short film "Agent Carter," which featured Peggy Carter (from Captain America) on a mission to retrieve something called... "The Zodiac." Once retrieved, the device went into SHIELD storage...

Yeah Life Model Decoy seems like the most obvious choice. Which means it could be a big fake out.

I'll be looking for any signs that Coulson is stronger, faster, more durable, etc. than would normally be expected.

My bet is an LMD, but that really would be a cool way to intro Dr. Strange into the franchise.

I am going to say tht he is a machine / cyborg, whatever. Ron Glass' character made the comment that "he really doesn't know, does he" or something like that.

That's what he said and Maria Hill said "He can never know". That is very open ended though. Could be just about anything.

Yeah, that was about as generic "there's a mystery here, folks!" dialog as you'll ever hear.

Did anyone else notice in the pilot, when Gunn's character blew the door off of skye's van - Coulson seemed like he did a Matrix-style backward bend to avoid it.

I'm starting to give a little more thought to a "magical" reason for why Coulson's back. The reference to Tahiti being a "magical place" is interesting. I kinda hope they don't use magic though. I think it will turn off a good portion of the mass audience.
