When did you know you were hooked on Firefly?

I was hooked on Firefly before I ever saw a single episode, thanks to the enthusiam of Saxon (from the prospero forum). I knew I'd love it, ordered the DVDs immediately and was hooked from the first episode. Became a devoted Fillionaire. Knew it was all over but the shoutin' when I saw Out of Gas. The sense of humor, the clever dialogue, the fleshed out characters that I want to learn SO much more about - I'm hooked!
Anybody here in the Dallas area? Our meetup is this weekend! Come on down!

For me, right after Train Job aired I thought it looked like something different. I logged on to this here website and heard about the unaired original pilot. After a day or two downloading it from Kazaa, I watched it and just fell in love. The pilot really showed the potential and the depth that Joss built into the series. So much better than Train Job, and I really liked Train Job. So yeah, I was hooked.
Each week after that, I downloaded the new eps and watched each one two or three times. I was amazed to see a television show that had so much to offer. I'd still be seeing new layers and hearing new lines after three viewings. ok.. I'm preaching to the choir here.....You know the rest.

Sorry to be boring guys - but it was the bit in Train Job when Crow goes into the engine. A long- term Buffy/ Angel fan, I found the number of characters in Firefly a bit confusing in the pre-show publicity and slightly resented Joss splitting his attention, so missed the pilot when they showed it over here (UK).
But wow - still love that bit.

My experience was just like Niknak’s. I’m a DVD convert, so my first episode was Serenity. I thought the opening battle scene was great, and I loved the acting, writing, and production values from the start. I didn’t fall for the show completely until halfway through the pilot.
The shooting of Kaylee was the scene that did it for me. The way that tense scene played out was incredible. Acting, editing, and camera work was all top notch. Kaylee had immediately become my favorite character, and you could tell how important she was to the rest of the crew. Jayne’s protectiveness, Mal holding her hand, Inara calling her mei-mei. Book disarming Dobson was a sight to behold. And at this point you really weren’t sure about Simon. Was he a good guy? Would he actually let Kaylee die?
Of course, the subsequent “Kaylee’s dead” scene was the clincher. I remember gasping out loud because I honestly believed they had killed her off. A friend of mine always makes fun of me because of that since I completely forgot the Jewel was on the DVD box and in the credits. But that’s how wonderful the show is because you become so utterly involved in the story and the characters. Finished all the episodes in less than a weekend.
