It's Peter Capaldi! I have no idea who he is.

I'm not really happy with this choice, I thought they'd find an actor younger then Smith. Atleast they didn't go P.C. on us with a black gay female.

Maybe not all at once, but some version of either one of those certainly is possible.
I stumbled across the event with out even looking for it, and it was quite a show! Pretty risky for them to put " live " chat comments on the screen, but I'm sure they had that stuff delayed and not so randomly chosen.
The new Doctor really isn't all that much of a stretch. He's older, which breaks a trend, but he's had ties w/ the Who 'verse already, being in a The Fires of Pompeii, as well as the Torchwood ( Children of Earth ) series.
Curious credit form IMDB...

This guy is to well known, they should've hired an unknown young actor that we'd get to know in time. My guess is he'll try to be a throw back of the earlier Doctors.

He's a cracking actor, he has an Oscar for his work as a writer/director and he's a long time Doctor Who fan - I think he's going to be immense. The whole young/old/white/black/attractive/straight/gay thing is a bit of a mislead - the Doctor has a certain quality and actors either have it or they don't.

Hasn't been a decent doctor since Tom Baker. Know who would've been a good Doctor? Mark Sheppard.

Firefly fans could learn from Doctor Who fans: River does not have to forever be Summer Glau. (But Kaylee will always be Jewel Staite. I refuse to accept a substitute. It is her role.)

I like the choice. I think his sensibility is just right for the role. I liked Smith, too, but Im glad they went with someone older this time around.
Excuse me while I soak in all these sweet, sweet conservative tears.
