First, I think you're interpreting it wrong. I want to hear more on both sides of her quote - what was she asked?
Second: I do believe her "not caring about life." If you kill someone's children, or threaten to kill them, then they might not care about their own lives at that time, they will be hell bent on revenge - they probably don't care what they DID. Are any of your surprised by this? How many times do we hear in this country when a serial killer is caught the mother says, "he was such a nice boy, I don't think he's guilty."

I concur in regards to the revolting so-called-programming these days, and frankly a lot of the larger media outlets even on the net engage in a severe variation on "yellow journalism" as well.
That generally why I prefer local or independent media sources whenever possible, especially in light of the painfully obvious fact that a lot of their "news" is just some press release copy-pasted to every mainstream outlet anyways.
As for entertainment, I've long since mostly given up on domestic endeavours in that field, finding much better stories to be had elsewhere.
Choosing not to play their game is always an option, switch that damn thing off and look elsewhere for something interesting, and you'll prolly be glad you did.
