Went up to Philly today to the Simeone Auto Museum http://simeonemuseum.org/ for their their last Demonstration Day of the year. They take historic sports racing cars and drive them around on the lot behind the museum so you can see and hear them run.
Today was the 'people's choice' day, and here's what we chose in an online poll.
?
1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
?
1966 Ford GT40 MKII
?
1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe
The GT40 ran at Le Mans in 1966 but was the only one of four not to make the 1-2-3 finish as it broke down after 5 hours.
The Daytona Cobra is the only one bodied in the U.S. and after its racing career driven by the likes of Phil Hill, was sold to Phil Spector and used as his daily driver until he accumulated too many tickets. He then gave it to his bodyguard, who gave it to her daughter, who kept it in a storage locker from 1971 to the mid-late 90s when Dr. Simeone bought it. It still has the original tires on it.
It was really amazing to see and hear $40 million worth of famous, rare, and important cars driving around a few feet from you.
If you're ever around Philly, and love sports cars, I'd sure suggest you stop by the Simeone Museum and look around. There are folks on hand who can give you pretty much all the info you can stand on any of the cars, which range from late 19th century to the mid 70s.
