Hello,
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. According to this article, the right wing thinks they were insufficiently far right and hope to become more right so that they can win the next election.
This quote was especially disturbing:
Quote:
"Tea partiers will take over the Republican Party within four years," he said.
The Republicans took over the Tea Party after 2008, but it seems it was their most extreme members who did so. Now, rather than chill out, they want to push their extremism harder in the hopes of converting a 'moderate' GOP to their wackness and winning the next election.
I miss the small-government isolationist peaceniks who used to reside in the Tea Party. Back when it was Ron Paul's Tea Party.
As far as I'm concerned, it's the Judas Party now.

The Left went uber, hard core Left after W won in 2000. The GOP tried to 'stay the course', which is why it got it's clock cleaned in the '06 and '08 elections. Americans were fed up, with the grid lock, the back rubbing of the opposition, which benefited everyone IN D.C., but basically screwed everyone else. Thus, the TEA party arose. And showed great promise in 2010. Mitt ? He was a gov from deep blue Mass. Not exactly at TEA party strong hold ( sad commentary on our nation, if ya think about it )
Cut spending, lower taxes, limit the size and power of the Imperial Federal Govt... do that, or we'll be in the exact same spot as Greece is today.
It shouldn't in the least bit be " disturbing ". Obama's lurch to the extreme Left, dictating State control over Religious institutions, via birth control mandates, exceeds the principles for which this country was founded.
And while the Dems divert attention away from their spending, on TOP of what W expanded the govt, with this lunacy of ' get the rich', pitting American vs American, the root of the problem continues to grow, unabated.
The GOP absolutely needs to tack further to the right, as long as it's on a FISCAL course, and not a Social one. And it MUST be able to make that distinction, even extending an arm to the Ron Paulinistas, and turning its back on the Rick Santorum crowd.

Hello,
Bah. They had that course to follow in 2007-2008, and they abandoned it with gusto.
You will know the GOP has found the right path when they talk about cutting military spending, ending the war of drugs, quitting the patriot act, quit mixing religion with politics, stop acting like illegal immigrants represent a Mars Attacks phenomenon, and quit trying to dictate the contents of women's wombs.
Fat chance.

Hello,
As I said. Fat Chance.
The wrong choices are the ones you love too much to let go of. Fiscal conservatism can take a hike when there's new military spending possibilities, and individual freedom can fall by the wayside when the temptation looms to put both of your grubby hands inside a woman's uterus.
The Human Beings that need protection are the women, by the way. The people already born, who need to have a say about their own bodies.
But the GOP doesn't have any strong feelings about helping the already born.

How many of those non-human contents would be women ?
Clearly, you irrational hatred has blinded you, once again. You're whining about a complete NON issue, on the idea that some how abortions will be banned, completely, when that's so far down the list of possibilities, as well as priorities we face on a NATIONAL level.
In short, it's a phony, emotionally charged issue.
As for spending, we spend more on welfare than we do for the military. So again, get off your one trick pony, and TRY to have a serious discussion.
If ya can.

It's hard to say. But 100% of the people whose wombs the GOP wants to control ARE women. Right now. In actuality.
Quote:

That is a stated goal of the GOP. Strongly stated. Avowed, even. So if it's a NON issue, maybe they should stop vowing to accomplish it.
Quote:
we spend more on welfare than we do for the military.
And the GOP would like to flip that ratio. More money for killing folks, less money for helping them. Which is a terrible idea. So these one-trick-ponies are actually a whole herd of bad GOP ideas that they refuse to abandon.

So let's bring the boys home from Iraq, Korea, and Germany and line 'em up along the border, shoulder to shoulder, all the way from Niagra Falls to Vancouver. Oh, you meant some other border? Well, they originally wanted to stop propping up Israel, end the wars, eliminate all overseas military presence, and take a hatchet to defense spending. They originally wanted legalization of drugs.
Now they no longer advocate for these things.
That's an extreme move to the right. Or more accurately, to the wrong.

Hello,
The old, more brilliant members of the Tea Party realized that Taxes could only be diminished if we ended wars on people and drugs, stopped policing the world, and shut down unneeded military assets. Generally discontinuing all the stupid things government does that chews up money.
I could take them seriously because yes, they wanted to cut Federal aid programs... but they also wanted to cut everything else. Not any more.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Welfare spending exceeds that for Social Security, Medicare, and defense
The federal government spent $3.6 trillion in fiscal year 2011, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Mandatory spending totaled about $2.0 trillion, or 56 percent of all federal outlays. That category includes spending for entitlement programs and certain other payments to people, businesses, nonprofit institutions, and state and local governments. Federal spending on Welfare is now the largest part of the federal budget, exceeding that spent on defense, Medicare, and Social Security.

The claim that the TEA party wouldn't accept him,TODAY, is beyond absurd. Go back to what Reagan was talking about, as far back as the 60's, and then again , through out the 80's.
His views sync up almost entirely. Problem is, the country has lurched so far to the Left, what he was saying THEN, is even more prophetic. He saw what was coming... even back then.

The GOP never were "anti-immigration ".
Add that to the long list of lies from the Left.
* And I can already hear the cries of indignation and gasps of shock at me saying that. But it's true. The Left puts out a completely false narrative, about the Right ( war on women, anti-immigration, against all govt,etc... ) and then carries on their propaganda, based on lies.

Hello,
I may be wrong, but I think prominent party supporters and party representative positions on abortion, contraception, and rape were even more damaging than their immigration stance.
It turns out a lot of people in this country are women, and some of them vote. Of those, a few vote in their own interests.

The lesson, some in the party say, is never again should a party that claims to live by a bottom-up grass-roots conservative base let itself be smothered by a top-down leadership.

That part bothers me; if they move away from Washington politics, they will be ruled I'm guessing by their least sensible factions, which will make things even worse. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt.
Do you work for someone who voted for Obama? Quit your job. Co-workers who voted for Obama. Simply don't talk to them in the workplace, unless your boss instructs you too for work-related only purposes. Have clients who voted Democrat? Call them up this morning and tell them to take their business elsewhere.
That is one piece of work! Although, how I wish Rap would feel the same; reading his stuff after a couple of days away kind of reminded me how out-there he really is. He's as scary as those folks who want to go further right; they didn't get a THING out of what happened, out of how the American people rejected their agenda, and will only do further damage to their party, which is sad. Going to try and work to ignore him from now on, just chalk him up to one of those who can't grasp reality even slightly and are making the GOP even more irrelevant than ever.
I heard about the "go further right" thing; from what I heard, it's a fairly normal reaction to this kind of political loss, and the Dems have done it too. Doesn't make a lot of sense unless maybe you view it through those steps of loss--isn't denial one of the steps? If so, "bargaining" follows somewhere, then "acceptance", so maybe they have to go through these steps to regain some sense of perspective...one can only hope?
Wow, Anthony, I missed those quotes! Can you tell me where they are, please? Unless it's within the last couple of days, I must have missed the threads where they were. Thank you, tho'; won't forget them, want to save them to remind me where I stand with some!
I also heard pundits saying that if they DO choose this course over time, they are risking becoming even more irrelevant as a party, and perhaps another party will start to take their place. They were suggesting maybe the libertarians, but from what I'm reading here and in those articles, they wouldn't be much of an improvement.
Basically: Damn! As always, I want at least ONE viable second party (unlike, apparently, some like Rap and those in the articles linked). Sad day.

Hello Niki,
I can source the Raptor quote easily, since he constantly denies having said any such thing. It forced me to look up the thread often. I even had to re-discover the thread on the new site, because the old links I had stopped working when things switched over.
http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=51196
The other two (Six and Wulf) would require quite a bit of research. If anyone happens to have any reference or links handy, I'd appreciate making them available to Niki (and myself, in case anyone asks again in the future.)
Meanwhile, you certainly need not take my word for it that these things were said, since I cannot immediately source them. I can tell you that these last two statements disturbed me greatly. Only Kaneman was more vile in my recollection, with a promise of rape during your trip to the gulf coast in the wake of the disaster there. But I no longer have that link, either. He is, thankfully, gone from here.

Hello Niki,
Getting closer on the Wulf thing. I found a thread where you yourself quoted his sentiments.
Quote:
"Actually, Niki. You, and yours, are a dying breed. Feel that? Its age creeping up on you. Hurts a little more getting up in the morning, doesn't it? Thank GOD, you and your kind are finally starting to die off. Its just a matter of time. "Getting old, but still a hippie at heart..."
And considering that you and your kind are so spoiled and selfish that you couldn't even conceive of having children (THANK GOD), your philosophy is finally fucking dying.
Its up to those of us who suffered through your generations assclownery to rule the world. And many of us, have figured out that your life-style, belief-system, idiocy were false.
You die, your sick beliefs die with you. And the world is better for it.
Hurry up already.
As for my daughter. Watch your mouth you stupid fucking bitch.

This was originally just a note to myself, which I blacked out to avoid causing distress, but Raptor insisted on making it visible to the casual public observer.

Oh, Anthony, sweetie, I'm SO sorry! I never meant for you to go to all that trouble--I sincerely appreciate it, and thank you (I, too, am beginning to save some of the worst--all of it, by the way, from our righties! If I see anything equally hideous from a leftie, I will certainly save that too, I guarantee).
The "stupid fucking bitch" I see was a condensation of that post of Wulf's. I saved the thread when he first wrote it, just didn't realize you'd condensed it.
Six doesn't surprise me...for some strange reason he really went off the deep end when I started ignoring him. I didn't recognize until I saw the "ignore me" in the original that it was part of that.
And of course Raptor's is no surprise and I remembered it when he wrote it.
I'm sure equally vicious things have been said to/about others here, but until now I hadn't saved them. Am doing so in future, not PURELY out of spite (tho' yup, that's in there) but because of a personal desire to remind people of who we're "talking" to.
Thanx again Anthony; those are keepers!
By the way, Wulf also called me a "barren succubus"--but that was before I started noting URLs and dates, so I can't prove it. Just sayin'.

But that's just how I roll. Your usage may vary.
Given his own words, I ask again: WHY does anyone bother asking him to back up what he says??
And Wulf; why does anyone bother with him when he posted the following, when asked "Do you TRY for Epic Fail, Wulfie - or does it just come natural to you?"

We all, of course, remember these gems from Rap after the gulf spill: “Mr. President--you're a god damn, mother fucking liar. Fuck you, you cock sucking community activist piece of shit.... oh, go fuck yourself, Mr. President”

For me, I find the kind of "reparte" others engage in more akin to the schoolyard stuff...PN actually offends me (if I read him, which I pretty much don't anymore); there's your prime example of what was discussed in the "Fauxhahontis" thread, in a nutshell. And we ignore it, which is, in essence, not calling it out. Every time and essentially every ONE of us. We just go "oh, that's just PN". So how are we any better than the person who doesn't call out an ugly racist joke in social situations?
I think what's become acceptable in America is sickening, especially the last few years. One only has to go on a right-wing site on the internet to hear the very UGLIEST racism aimed at Obama, especially since he won re-election, and maybe if one did, one would see that I'm not just ultra-sensitive to it, the racism, homophobia, sexism are overt and very real...and not by a miniscule minority of Americans. It doesn't do any good to call it out, either, as the right-wing media/pundits/politicians ENCOURAGE it, overtly or subtly. I would say this country has gone to the dogs, only that would be a slur on dogs!
Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

"... the racism, homophobia, sexism are overt and very real...and not by a miniscule minority of Americans ..."
I keep thinking about that.
If one were to test people in ... France ... Iceland ... China ... the San bushmen ... what would the percentages of RWAs be? I think it's a stage of development most children go through that some outgrow, but not others. Do differing societies result in different percentages of RWAs? Different intensities? Does the category RWA even make sense in all societies?
My SENSE is that it's a category that is meaningful across cultures. I SUSPECT that children - being the survival machines that they are - adopt whatever mode seems the most likely to ensure they fit in with their society (or at least pretend to).
But whether that's true or not, and what the biological mechanisms of such different processing schema could be, is not something I know.

Which is why I have such "issues" with our established public education and so-called-parenting systems, as they tend to produce such lost creatures in droves, especially the later cause that abusive form of upbringing creates and forments a cycle of abuse as each generation passes it down unto the next.
On a macro scale, it has lead to what I consider the insanity of an entire society, but even so human empathy wins out in any case worth a mention on an overall scale - still, one RWA can do so much damage out of proportion to their percentage of population, especially since as our society has curdled, they wind up the ones with the most substantial resources and writing the rules for everyone else, you see.
But the ROOT of it comes to the essential mistreatment of a child in order to produce a mindset like that, they don't spring, fully formed, from some nefarious well of horror, we CREATE them.

Note the date, hell, the YEAR, of this speech - and as we rewarded that conduct so long as it was done with a socially acceptable gloss (religious leaders, corporate bigwigs, miltary and political leaders) it became the new normalised mainstream, this *IS* effectively what they are, what they have become, not by virtue of crossed wires (barring a rare few) but by LEARNED BEHAVIOR that has become so calcified it no longer makes any difference that they weren't born sociopaths.
It takes a certain insanity to stand against a tide like that, but be damned if I won't - always and ever.

"racism, homophobia, sexism," and if I may add, militant religion.
The 50's, as I keep saying, were different. We and our Allies had
defeated Hitler and Japan. We were all prouder than peacocks of
our heroism, our justice, our freedoms. I sure was.
Racism: Was practiced, recognised and largely discouraged. Most of
my literature (comic books) contained messages against it.
These days, many people don't know we had black slavery in America
for more than half its history ... or maybe only 89 years if I count
from the Revolution to the Civil War. People who know of the Civil
War today got it from the movies. Not School. Please, someone, tell
me I am wrong about this.
Sexism: We were so steeped in it, it seemed normal, natural. I would
not even become aware of it for decades, when Women Lib began to
make a lot of waves. I did have my own problems with sexism: Wives
were a Ball & Chain. Women were expected to stand on a chair and
scream at the sight of a mouse. What crap!
Homophobia: Can't comment; never heard of gays then. I guess they
were among the very many aspects of reality that were unmentionable
in my home.
Religion. Everyone was Christians, weren't they? Not my Dad so much;
never knew what his belief was, but he was down on churches. Then
there were the Jews and they were OK.
Every Sunday school I went to taught love, compassion, forgiveness,
turn the other cheek, do unto others as you would have them do unto
you, Jesus loves me, & contribute to missionary work in other lands.
Christians I know who are my age still have those principles.
But twenty years younger than me, you start getting this very strange
bunch of people who claim to be Christians but speak as if they are
anti-Christ. They talk about who should be stoned and burned.
Me: "Yeah, but ... what about the teachings of Jesus?"
"You have to be a Christian or go to Hell," they say.
We were taught in school that most of the early colonists on our
Eastern seaboard came to America to escape religious persecution.
No one in my youth Ever suggested the joining of Church and State.
We all knew that it went against 350 years of US & colonial history.
In the 50's, we were very proud of our rights, freedoms, our system
of justice. We were practicing all kinds of discrimination, but most
of us (me) were unaware of it.
Then came the 60's, 70's, endless protests about our hypocrisies. In
general, I think, we the people woke up a bit, recognised our short-
comings and tried to correct them. New thinking became popular as we
tried to extend equal freedom to minorities, women & non-Christians.
As for the gay movement, I don't know. It is popular to support them
now, but weren't they just on their own for the longest while?
We've come a long way, Baby, and now, we're getting the backlash: the
Nasty Neanderthal Reaction. Because somewhere along the way, a move
to dumb down America began, and it's been pretty damn successful.
Why do I keep bringing this stuff up?
Those who don't know History are doomed to repeat it.
Be Here Now is good; perspective makes it better.

Right on, Frem, to an incredibly sad degree we are learning these days!
Oonj, racism wasn't "discouraged" in America until the civil rights movement...hell, even long after that, and some still "practice" it to this day, tho' now it IS discouraged (at least publicly and by most people). It was practiced and accepted at times in our country against Jews pretty badly, Native Americans (and still is in some places in Idaho that I know of) and of course African Americans. The attitude still pervades in some--didn't one politician just recently say slavery was good for Black folk in some ways, or something stupid like that? Don't kid yourself; while not PC, it still lives and within some subsets of our culture, is quite open.
Even here...back in the '90s when I was working for lawyers, my supervisor had moved here from New York. Looking for places to live, she talked to the landlord of one place on the phone at great length. They had a lot in common and of course she didn't "sound" black, being a middle-class woman from NY. The landlord was excited about the prospect of having her as a tenant (reeely excited!), but when Christine walked up to her apartment building, the landlord blanched, stammered and said the room had already been rented. Less than twenty years ago, in California, where we tend to think such things don't exist!
Sexism was just the way things WERE when I was growing up in the sixties; like you said, normal, natural. My mom was "forced" to work outside the home when Pan Am laid my dad off (after we returned from Afghanistan)--and she was somewhat outside the mold, having been a secretary in S.F. when younger). Nonetheless, she blamed dad for "making" her work outside the home, and still did the "dress up" thing, making full sit-down dinners for us, dressing me up for school in matching skirts and blouses (anyone remember the "poodle skirt"?), having parties with hors d'oeuvres, the whole schebang. Yeah, the women's lib thing changed things, but not that long ago by time standards, and I have internet friends whose whole point in life is to find a husband, go the "big wedding" method, want to have kids right away and expect a husband who will let them be stay-at-home mothers. Mind you, for the kids' sake I think that's great, but as a mentality...? One put her whole being into the wedding, gave us links to her wedding gown choices, they blew tons on the wedding and honeymoon, soon after he got cancer, lost his job, they were broke with a kid and went through hell. When I think of all the money that fancy wedding gown, the wedding and honeymoon cost and where it left them...
Homosexuality was, I think, unmentionable in MOST families. It's been around throughout history, but most societies never "accepted it" openly like we do now, as much as we DO now...it's still as big a thing as racism in some societies, again not PC but acceptable within the "group". I think
As to religion, my parents were "casually religious"--went to church (all dressed up) every week, I went to Sunday school, mom participated in church functions, but neither of them ever talked to me about God or religion. I know mom was a Christian Scientist as a child, and dad got his best sleep of the week at church; beyond that I know nothing, except that back then America was far more religious than now, and no, the concept of religion and politics was alien...maybe because it was just such an unspoken part of our government?Quote:

As I leave you for today, I just had to bump this...given the threats-to-leave-America thread, the threat-to-secede thread, the Turdblossom's-excuses thread, the Five-Stages-of-Grief thread and the Alan-West-is-Out thread, it belongs right up there with them. Put them together, and that pretty much says it all...
See 'ya tomorry.

Here we have a fine example of failed Libtard thinking trying to rationalize reality.
Decent teaching point, learning opportunity.
